So Elliot Harrison sees us as crunch time casualties in the playoffs? Well seems to me he forgets that in the playoffs that Joe Flacco is the Best QB in football and we are always in tight contests and still manage to get the job done year after year. I guess this is another hater looking for headlines cuz now we are finally getting national respect.
No need for everyone to debate what Elliot Harrison is saying. Basically all he is doing is predicting, or even guessing. It means just as much as all the Mock Drafts-absolutely nothing. It is usually best to wait until the season is playing out then people can say we are this or we are that. Until then we just practice to get better each day.
GO RAVENS!
1. The Ravens had zero intention of making Joe the starter in his first year. Kyle Boller suffered a season ending injury before the season started, and Troy Smith had an illness I believe that made Joe the starter Week 1.
2. Draft picks should always earn their playing time just like anybody else should. By the time they put pads on and complete training camp and the preseason, we will see where the dust settles. If the coaching staff thinks he hasn't performed better than Aiken or Brown, then he doesn't start... its that simple. The coaching staff is in the best possible position on the planet to make that judgment. I expect him to win that job, but there is precedent. Even Matt Elam didn't technically win a starting job in his first season... he lost the SS battle in camp to Ihedigbo and only became a starter when we realized how bad Huff was.
There's dozens of players who all think they deserve a shot to play, and in reality, many of them will never get that chance.
Agreed. Just because a guy is drafted in round 1 or 2 (Any round really) does not automatically make him starting caliber. Look around the league and you can see undrafted players starting in place of drafted players. Earning a spot is the only way. Players will tell you, "Nothing is given"
The last paragraph is by far the most important. "Keep Everyone Healthy"!!!
I like us in the shawdows and out of the limelight. Then when we are forced into the limelight vs a front running team, it make s the victory that much sweeter.
WE always have been the undervalued underdog. It works for us. It's part of our persona.
While I don't agree with Harrison's overall assessment of putting the Ravens as a "second-tier" team in the AFC, his points are valid. We know very little about what this passing game is going to look like. New OC, massive amounts of unknown, unproven players at WR and TE. This can't be overstated. These are things we can't possibly know what to expect until we actually play games.
Very well said!
I really don't get all the praise for Schaub. If he is so good as people say, don't you think he would be starting for a team? Heck even a Qb starved Cleveland didn't sign him. He has completely lost his mojo IMO. I am reading about the OTA's and and he continues to throw interceptions. Not just INT's, but pick 6 Int's. Not to mention bouncing balls short. A rookie beat him out in Oakland for the starting job. His last year with the Texans was abysmal and he still had Adrian Foster running the ball and Andre Johnson as his go to receiver. If we keep him, we better hope Flacco stays healthy.
Reports of Int's and short hopping are very concerning, especially since he is to have some knowledge of the Offensive system coming in.
Waller makes the team, because there is no way he gets through the waiver wire, and put on the PS...He has to much upside, and 6'6 4.40 speed is rare...
I agree. I like this guy a lot!.
campanaro is injury prone. next man up. i like carter
I would hate to be the one to choose between Carter, Waller and Butler. All have been exceptional so far. Real tough choices coming for the coaching staff.
Extend Flacco, and get Yanda and KO resigned....unlikely, but that would be sweet....
Yes it would. Add Tucker also. If its too good to be true it usually is. Lol
Watching the OTA videos. it seems that Flacco likes throwing to Waller alot. That is a good thing.
Schaub's arm is done (remember all the pick 6s with the Texans that he threw). When a QB loses his starting jig to an undrafted rookie, gets traded, then loses his job to a rookie draft pick, you know there is not much left in the tank. Solid back-up but if something happens to Flacco, kiss our play-off chances goodbye.
I don't think you can have it both ways can you? Either he is Done with nothing left or Solid Back-up? Has to be 1 or neither one right?
I believe Steve will get it done. Like a lot of people, I am looking forward and excited about the upcoming season. I know that we are very talented but I keep asking myself "Are we too young and inexperienced at this point. I sure hope not. I would love to see rookies and vets gel together to take this season by storm and climb to heights we haven't seen yet.
GO RAVENS!
Hate to say it but if the coaching staff thinks the same way about Carter as Steve Smith does, Campanaro will be the odd receiver out even though I think that Carter will at least be attempted to move to the practice squad. Campanaro's injuries may be the downfall of his NFL career that just recently begun.
I agree. I think that the coaching staff just does not have the "Trust" that Campanaro can stay healthy. He hasn't given any indication to the fact that he can so far. They like him a lot, but they have to believe that he can stay healthy and right now they do not.
Just goes to show people just how good our front office is at drafting and signing players for the future. Knowing that Ngata was going to be very expensive and maybe his best has been played, Ozzie & Company went out and got Jernigan, Wiliams, etc. Always thinking ahead and not afraid to let big named stars go has done us well so far. It works.
Go Ravens!
A star is born.
Even though they say he will be back for Training Camp, this hurts his changes big time IMO. I feel bad for him but luckily we do have a lot of talent to challenge for a spot. It opens the door and gives the other guys a better chance of making the squad. Campanaro wasn't assured a spot to begin with, but his chances just took a dive.
Campanaro's contribution on ST is going to determine how much he plays IMO.
I think you are 100% right on that. With all the talent at WR now, it is going to be tough. Not to mention that some of his competition are very tall, very big guys. Waller @ 6-6 240 is one guy I hope to see this season. Imagine just how high he can get up to snag the ball from the air. Tough choices ahead for the coaching staff.
While I agree that's the current intent, I honestly don't see it happening.
I still don't believe that Marlon/Aiken will carve out a big enough role through their play in camp/preseason where they will honestly consider reducing SSS snap count significantly enough to rest him. I think they will realize early on that there is still a decent talent/skill gap between those kinds of players, and I think SSS will take on a bigger role than the Ravens current will want. He hopefully will have a reduced production role, indicating that others are contributing to the offense more, but I just don't see the snap count decreasing significantly unless its literally forced by the coaching staff, which could be detrimental to the offense.
In particular, while we all want to believe that Perriman is going to be a stud, he's a rookie. There's a learning curve with 100% of rookie WRs, and I'm not expecting him to light the world on fire right out of the gate. So, at best, we head into the season with a WR core with major question marks up and down the roster, and the only "rock" in that is SSS.
While I agree that there is a learning curve for all rookies, that doesn't mean that he can't "set the world on fire". Look at last years WR class. Evens, Beckham etc. I would like to think (and hope) that Perriman has that kind of production in his first year also.
My hopes are for Waller to be "one we've been waiting for". You just have to love a 6'6 240lb receiver.
NO way Yanda walks. Oz and company too smart to let that happen. It's going to be very expensive but in the end he stays.
Another thing Flacco gets little credit for, adapting to new OC's, and making the offense work...
That is 100% correct. That is 1 stat that never gets mentioned and to me is very defineing. There really are not many that can keep making playoffs with a different Coordinator each year. I for one applaud him.
Or, he got the "wink and nod" treatment from Goodell in regards to Brady's inevitable reduced punishment, and Kraft realizes that losing Brady for only two games as compared to four is worth the $1M fine and the loss of a late first round draft pick.
exactly! Brady gets 2 games or dare to say just 1. That would seem to be the deal that was "Hugged" out.
Very underrated by others. Front off ice loves him. He has done a very good job for us. Come free agency, he will have many suitors.

Agreed. I would of bet that Holiday was going to be a Raven. But then again, he went to LSU not Alabama. LOL
