Another factor no one seems to be considering is these guys might not WANT to go to that train wreck down in Miami. I think Oakland is more desirable at this point.
Miami was basically a game out of the playoffs last year. They were essentially like us in some ways. Had their moments on D, inconsistent O, and couldn't protect their QB worth a damn. Oakland is definitely in worse shape still. Plus I think south Florida is more attractive to many players than the bay area.
Nice to have a jersey I don't have to worry about losing! Still want to get a Tucker one, that should be good for a long time.
His wife is from the area hope that helps.
Happy wife happy life.
Millions of extra dollars buys a lot of wife happiness and plane tickets back to visit.
Anything short of re-signing him would be a disaster.
Well, if he goes to Miami or whereever for some absolutely absurd amount, I'd understand a bit. We have a lot more cap room than usual but its not THAT much compared to some of these cheapskate teams. Its possible Monroe just wants a bank breaking contract and we can't do it. I'm still hoping he will be signed this week.
Time and time again Ozzie finds a way to put the right pieces in. We had it worse than this, i'm not worried
Well, aside from center and free safety last year. Huff was a bust. He's had years to plan for Birk's retirement and passed up opportunities to draft Ben Jones or Peter Konz. Instead we got a lesser ranked later round pick from a 1A school and we've paid the price in the run game and protection last year. KO going down and Yanda battling injury can't be helped, and as high as we've picked its tough to get a LT. But the lack of a center is on Oz, and now if we let a true franchise LT walk for...what?....then that's on him too.
Ozzie's going to get some bargain bin gamble of an LT and center. Oher will walk, Wagner/KO/draft pick for LG and RT. Half the board will proclaim him a genius for letting "over rated" Monroe go. If Oher stays that same half of the board will be retroactively saying how his time has come and he was really pretty good on the left sometimes!
So does this mean we will be running a west coast offense?

Tate would be great but probably too expensive. We can get a serviceable back in mid rounds and have him for cheap on a rookie contract. Bell would be good too if not too overpriced. Who knows though the RB market could tank, I assume we wouldn't take a back until the market cools way down though. With the talk that Monroe is basically staying, I want to see a center signed more than anything.
