Goodbye to All,
Enjoyed reading your thoughts and posting my own. I won't be moving to FB. Best wishes to all my Raven brothers and sisters.
Still have not seen a Power Ranking or Vegas odds with the Ravens in the top 10 or even top half of the league, but we do have a good defense.
20 hours ago, The Raven said:Plenty of talent? Get real. Camp's always hurt. Moore has more drops than catches. Gillmore's always hurt and when he is on the field is too slow to be a viable threat. Maxx is almost always hurt and if he's healthy he's not on the field bc of poor coaching. Boyle is slower than I am and is also suspended half the time. Waller is underused by the coaching staff but also took forever to figure it out. Taliaferro is a back and is always hurt. Urschel had a good rookie year and has done jack since then.
So, that leaves Perriman, West, Dixon, and Allen who have been healthy and at least somewhat effective, and three of them play the same position: RB, which isn't the key to unlocking any passing game.
And Perriman? Misused and drops too many over the middle passes.
Wanna rethink the whole "plenty of talent" crap?
WOW, you're such a Debbie Downer, glass 3/4 empty guy. Four months to the start of the season and you've given up on the team already. Give Ozzie a chance, he knows there's work to be done.
Wanna rethink that negative attitude crap?
This just in from Bleacher Rpt, RICHARD JANVRIN ... "If you thought the Baltimore Ravens defense was intimidating before the draft, look again: It got a lot more scary.
With their first-round pick, the Ravens took Alabama defensive back Marlon Humphrey. While Humphrey may be a cornerback out of the gate, he might end up being a better safety in the long-run which is a position the Ravens do not need. However, with Brandon Carr and Jimmy Smith, the Ravens have found more depth at the position, making this secondary one of the best in the entire league.
The Ravens lost defensive end Lawrence Guy this offseason, the Ravens addressed their pass rush with Houston edge rusher Tyus Bowser. While he may be a bit of a project, Bowser is one of the most athletic guys you'll find in this entire class. He still learning a lot of the intricacies of football, but he should be a pretty productive pass-rusher when asked to this season.
Wormley was a great value in round three and he'll serve as a nice run-stuffer who has drawn comparisons to Guy, who now plays for the New England Patriots.
Williams is another project player who didn't play much in college, but should develop into at least a pass-rushing specialist.
Their first offensive player was taken in the fourth-round in Siragusa who should start day one at left guard, pushing Alex Lewis over to right tackle, helping out the offensive line some.
While the Ravens didn't exactly draft a ton of impact, day one, starters, they drafted plenty of great pieces that really improved their defense—they could be the best defense in the sport with their new additions in 2017. That alone warrants a spot here."
No if the offense can just be a bit less ... offensive.
The Ravens may have whiffed on the offensive side of the ball this year but in the 2014, '15 n '16 draft we picked up plenty of talent that has been coached-up and needs to step up.
WR: Campanaro, Perriman, Moore
TE: Gillmore, MWilliams, Boyle, Waller
RB: Taliaferro, West, Dixon, Allen
OL: Urschel
There are plenty of targets there for Joe to throw to and Stanley, Yanda, Goose, and Lewis are a great start at protecting and opening holes.
The offense can do it if Flacco can just get past being Average Joe.
This could be a Matt Stover 2.0 year featuring Justin Tucker.
if the defense does not dominate than harbs will be to blame for not upgrading dean pees. they will plug the wholes on offense with veterans this summer when cuts happen
I hate both of our coordinators and don't think we're ever going to see our full potential until these are addressed.......
Agree; everything about them says old school, old habits, well-worn schemes. Not much excitement on either side of the ball.
It makes me sad seeing all the bad stuff about Flacco hes's our QB. I truly believe that building around a QB is also giving him a great defense. I definitely feel that we need a Wideout and some OL players, But I also feel that we have a chance to see Hopefully Perriman become a true #1. I'm 100% confident in our team and yes I know there has been some struggles to say the least. I know Flacco can bring us back to the playoffs and I know our defense will be scary great this year. I am hoping and praying Perriman becomes the true #1 like we drafted him as and I do believe Dixon will be the real deal and the players we drafted last year will come into their own. I feel that [Pitta will start being more of a factor as well. So c'mon Ravens Nation we should be happy right now. our team is going to play great and our Defense is should stop just about anyone and which in turn the offense can lean on that.
A good, positive homer attitude. Okay then.
Most drafted players are not plug-n-play saviors anyway; Ravens have multiple linemen & receivers in their stable. It's time for them to step up and fill the holes. We all watched as our favorite offensive players went off the board bang bang bang right in front of our pick. Not Ozzie's fault. He drafted last year for this year. Lets hope his picks step up.
I really don't care who the Ravens pick today as long as they are the best player on the board. We need some 5-stars and at the moment we don't have any.
Round 1 goes to Cleveland; they improved their team immensely. Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, & Baltimore added much less glamorous (read fan favorite) picks. Day 2 is make or break for the Ravens. No Hail Marys today pls.
Four Bama players available and we picked the 4th best. Color me less than excited with the selection. Would have preferred Gareon Conley but I'm sure Ozzie knows best.
Cleveland is starting with a killer draft; I would not automatically be pencilling in a 'W' on the schedule.
CB picked, moving on to day 2. Still looking for WR, ER, OL. Git'er done.
25 minutes ago, bioLarzen said:Even my fiercestr enemies couldn't accuse me of agreeing with everything Hanseley says - but taking an ofensive tackle in round 1 would IMHO be the best case scenario.
That said, if this many potential first round picks are still on the board at #16, we all know Ozzie will trade down.
Bill Polian at the end of the show critiqued the board and said not one o-lineman was worthy of a 1st round selection. Much better value at other positions. fwiw
Interesting mock draft on ESPN Tue night. Sports writers from each team's city picked the players, Bill Polian and Todd McShay critiqued. They are of the opinion any o-lineman in the 1st round is too soon, and the Ravens best pick is a receiver if no elite pass rusher falls to them. FWIW.
I'd rather see us draft 4 starters and 3 quality backups than 1 starter and cannon fodder.
They have at least 2 gaping holes on the O line with no quality starting caliber replacements. You have at least 5 adequate to above average receivers/hybrids already on the roster. Wallace, Perriman, Moore, Campanaro, Waller, Woodhead. The immediate need is O line or DB. If they draft another WR thinking this is the answer to their offensive ineptness, I would not expect any improvement in the record this year.
If they do not grab at least 1 RT early, Flacco is going to be on his back or throwing a lot of incompletions to the wasted first round picks (assuming they take a WR) all year again. I am prepared to be underwhelmed by their selection in the first round. Guessing they will do something bizarre like draft a safety or RB, when there is absolutely no need.1. A quality RT even interior lineman certainly doesn't need to be found exclusively in round 1 or even round 2. Could very easily see somebody taken in round 3 or 4 and come in play right away and play just fine. The guy we just let walk for a boatload of cash did this exact thing.
2. I don't think anybody can honestly say that Camp, Waller, or even Moore at this point have any track record whatsoever of being above average pass catchers in the NFL. They actually have to show that on the field at some point before they can come close to being given that label.
3. We're obviously not taking a first round pick just to fill an immediate need. Almost impossible to build a contending football team that way. You pick a player who you think can be a quality player for you for a decade.
If that's a safety, so be it. Eric Weddle ain't going to be here much longer, and if you wait to draft a safety until you absolutely need one, you'll be screwed, because its not really a position you can just walk off the bus and play well in as a rookie.
We could use upgrades at every single group of positions on this team, with the exception of QB. We are NOT set at Safety, Corner, ILB, OLB, Dline, WR, TE, or RB. We could use a better player and every single one of those positions, both now and certainly in the future.
You take the best guy that's there. Fans need to stop kidding themselves thinking that we're a draft away from being a SB contender.I agree that you don't draft for current needs (at least shouldn't make a habit out of that) but instead you draft for the future!
I also agree that we are not drafting a QB this year.
I think that there are several positions that we are stocked well at and will not be looking to fill an immediate need or a future need with in this draft.
I think QB, TE, NT, DT are some of those positions
I believe that looking ahead (not this year) that OLB is our most glaring need but I can make an argument that we are not much better off at WR, OL or CB
I think CB and S at least have their fill right now... and as a result we will probably not look to make that draft pick in the first round (unless someone at that positions just blows you away and they fall to you)
i.e. if a Jumal Adams or Peppers somehow falls to us... we may feel that they are that special of a player that you go there anyways.
The problem with this draft is... this:
Do we feel that Peppers is more special at S then say Corey Davis is at WR or more special then Reuben Foster is at ILB or McKinley, Reddick, Ramczyk, Dalvin Cook, Lattimnore, Sid Jones, etc.
So then if you feel that one is not more special at their position but several can be super stars then you have to look at your team and say I have a future star either place... which does the team need more.
I do think there is enough talent in this draft that we simply may not be very clear on the BPA model and we may need to adapt and go with BPA + need = our next pick (believing that several picks could stars for years to come and someone who we could build around! (Not a bad problem to have BTW)
Thursday can get here soon enough! (and just for the record- I still think we trade back)
If we trade back ... O-lineman here we come.
Waiting all day for Thursday night.
Mike Wallace is the only receiver the Ravens have. We have many players that can catch 15~20 passes a season but no one other than Wallace that can provide stability and comfort to Joe. Ravens need to pick up 2 receivers in this years draft and Howard, Williams or Davis would be a great start.
15 minutes ago, BMORE21 said:IMO Browns should go defense first 3 picks. Garret at 1,barnett/foster at 12 and maybe baker/jones with their 1st 2nd...for now just get you a qb that fits your scheme. In browns position, i feel like its better to wait till the team are QB away from competing.
Agree wholeheartedly. Let Brock and Cody run the show this year; use all the draft picks on players; build the offense and defense and wait til next year.
6 minutes ago, bigcatfrank1 said:It really comes down to would the teams at 7- 12 move down. OZ can make any deal he wants, give up the farm no, but give up chickens for a rooster maybe.
I'd prefer taking Christian McCaffrey and retaining our draft picks. We could use everything Mac brings to the table: RB, WR, PR/KR.
I expect the Ravens to select DL, OL, DB, receiver with our first 4 picks. D-line could be an ER or DE or OLB; O-line would be a versatile OC/G; receiver could be Howard or Davis/Williams in the 1st or a talented group in the 2nd. If you don't predetermine player and round taken and just draft the bpa based on need, we should end up with 2 starters and 2 quality depth players. Expecting 4 starters is totally unrealistic imho.
this would be a nice haul, with a couple of trade downs.

They stuck to a plan developed in Jan. but, I feel, they missed an opportunity as circumstances changed. Being too locked in to a philosophy is not always a positive. Our offense is boring and pedestrian and will likely remain so this year.
