Saw this on another forum...I have to agree.
I don't disagree, but I think our offense can be nasty we just aren't using what we have in the right way. We are not a finesse team. We need to play nasty football and we have guys to do it. LT and Buck are hard runners and sock people in the mouth. Juice makes solid plays in the flats and lowers his head and barrels into guys. Crocket takes half the other team to tackle and isn't scared of anybody. Maxx has shown a physicality and willingness to hit people in the mouth, but doesn't get a chance. and SSS is a menace. So why aren't we playing old school hit them in the mouth football when that is the team we have. We need to stop trying to be like this offense or that and just except we aren't a flashy offense. We are physical and we should run an offense that shows that.
They looked at Maxx. One time on the first drive.
and he made a play, but didn't get much of a chance after that. I don't get it.
Absolutely... everyone doesn't realize the impact guys like Suggs have. It was definitely noticeable.
He keeps them playing with fire also, keeps the light under their butts. That wasn't there today. Someone needs to step up and get those motors going in another gear when nut up or shut up moments arise.
We need to come up with an offense that utilizes our strengths. Wide receiver is not a strength, tight end and running back is. either two running backs or two tight ends should be in the game. Juice looks good catching the ball out in the flats and Crocket and Maxx play like ravens. They are nasty and run right at you and challenge you to bring them down. We are not a finesse team so we need to stop trying to bed.
Idk Oakland's weakness was their secondary so we attacked it. Still I'm not happy with some of the packages he used.
Yeah I don't know why we weren't running more double tight end sets. I feel like Maxx has proven himself when he has been I and Crocket has more than proved himself. He is looking like if pitta does come back he will come back as the number 2 tight end
I'm not sure why Trestman abandoned the run on the final drive either. Really not a fan of him.
He doesn't know how to run this offense. Either he needs to figure it out or just make it his own.
Trestman doesn't know how to run this offense. I expected the defense to come out flat. they are going to need to adjust and someone needs to step up as a leader. I'm looking at you Will Hill.
Pees needs to be fired, defense can walk home. And I'm warming to the idea of trading for a WR with nobody outside of SSS capable of doing anything.
And Trestman still run 3 WR sets. we should be running double tights or put Juice in. Crocket played with fire today, Maxx doesn't get enough reps and Juice has looked good, but none of our receivers do much of anything other than SSS and he slowed down towards mid season last yr so somebody needs to help out.
hey at least our streak of not allowing a 100 yard rusher stays alive ![]()
i dont blame anyone on that play, a little more hangtime than you need in a tight spot like that, but it was still good delivery to float it over the DB, and gillmore got a firm grip on the ball, and darian stewart just showed up and made a great play.
its unfortunate, he can make a play like that but he cant make a routine tackle to help us beat the patriots last year
Haha right. Yeah, I don't hold anything against anyone on that. I think Gilmore can make that catch though, but he hasnt been in that position yet that we have seen so I think next time he does pull that catch in.
he was only in double coverage because the safety came in there and broke it up late, when the ball made contact with his hands it was 1 on 1 covrage and he was being faceguarded, it was 1 on 1 coverage when he ball was thrown, the hangtime allowed the safety to make a play
Yeah completely. thats why I don't lay that play on Joe b.c when the ball left his hand it was one on one, but in gilmores defense when it got there he was double covered.
Yeah, don't know why people keep saying it was double coverage. Stewart was able to make his way over on the floater and react on the deflection. Wasn't really applying any sort of pressure on the catch.
It may not have been double man, but the corner had man and Stewart had the zone and Stewart was there before the ball got there. In my opinion that's double coverage.
Sure.
Gillmore turned around too early, giving up his position to the DB, which combined with what looked like him slowing down allowed the DB to get his hands in there to disrupt the pass. He also didn't seem to run the best route there, but that's nit-picking. Since Gillmore turned around early when he did, and put his arms out there when he did, he allowed the DB to get position and disrupt the pass. This actually happened with Maxx Williams as well on that one nice PD the LB (I think?) had earlier in the game. Williams extended his arm too early to catch the pass and the LB just anticipated the pass since he extended his arm so early.
Don't mistake my criticism for condemnation. I think Gillmore played well and he didn't get enough chances and I think he should've gotten more. He was far from our worst player on offense.
He was also in double coverage. I'd like him to make that catch since he had his hands on it and he had a chance so youd like to see that play made. I liked our tight end play honestly. It wasnt Gronk or anything like that, but for guys with very limited experience i was pleased. That double coverage on Gilmore, i think he makes that catch next time, Lesson learned.
I would agree in theory, but their OLB ate us alive....their CB and safeties playing softer would have made no difference
Agreed, nobody had time to get open. Our offense depends on solid Oline play and everyone knows this. Joe Flacco isnt aaron rodgers. SSS isnt calvin johnson, Forsett isnt Adrien peterson, Gilmore isnt Gronk. We have good players, but lets be honest none of them can carry our offense without solid o-line play. I think our O-line will rebound. Going up against ware and miller isnt the ideal season opener for them and i think they will come back fired up.
My fears about this offense came true. We aren't ready yet. My notes:
the offensive line takes a lot of credit for this loss. It wasnt that joe didnt have enough time to throw, but more so nobody had time to get open because the oline was getting man handled
No doubt Joe made some dumb throws, but he didnt even have time to get past his first read so if that first read wasnt open he had to either make the pass anyway, throw it away, or get sacked.
Aiken was never open, he cant get separation to save his life. Please lets move on. Camp got open a lot however joe cant get past his first or second read so he never got a look. Waller didnt even get a chance, him and brown shouldve been in on that last set of downs, sorry SSS was getting owned by talib take him out and try talib with a completely different type of guy.
I think williams and gilmore looked really good. They were both blocking better than the oline and making some good plays. We have to remember how young they are. Maxx has some work to do on his routes and getting separation, but i was impressed. That last interception you would like to see crocket make that catch, but that was double coverage and he isnt very experienced and fighting double coverage is something he hasnt experienced. He'll do better next time.
Forsett looked like he may have truly been a product of Kubiaks system. Allen looked really good.
Defense, no complaints although webb may need to get a little competition.
Lol he is arguably the most complete olb playing and the ravens have 0 depth behind him. Upshaw and zadarius Smith? Lol we are in trouble.
Not enough people appreciate what upshaw does. I rarely see a run or screen go to his side with any success. He may not be making the tackles every time, but his disruption on the blockers and getting a hand on the runner no doubt effects those plays. Its not necessarily fair to judge his pass rush b.c he is never in for those type of situations. i hate that Upshaw doesnt get enough love. I think he earns it this season even though he's always been a big piece to our rush defense and should be getting the love already,
I really like Pitta, but I think for his sake he needs to hang them up. One dislocation, ok you might be fine. Two though, theres a better than not chance its going to happen again. To be 30 yrs old and already have serious hip problems is terrible. He has to think of his quality of life post football. Think about his kids and grandkids and being able to do things with them without needing to worry about hurting himself. I blew my knee out multiple times in highschool wrestling and stairs or anything going up or down is not pleasant and im only 26. I can only imagine how much his hip will hinder him as he gets older. Selfishly i'd like to see him come back. I have faith in maxx and crocket, but no question pitta is better at this point, but personally I think he needs to hang the cleats up.
Absolute worst case scenario 4-11. Best case scenario 14-2. my prediction, 10-6
Week 1 at Denver will be a win. Kubiak showed us his hand. I think we have an advantage here.
Week 2 at Oakland will be a win. I think Oakland is on the rise, but they wont come on until late
Week 3 Home Opener with Cincinnati will be a loss. Dalton always plays well early on.
Week 4 At Pittsburgh will be a loss. Leveon will be back and they are going to put a lot of points on the board and I don't think our O will be firing enough to keep up at this point in the season.
Week 5 Cleveland at home will be a win. it's probably going to be closer than it should be, but we will win.
Week 6 At Niners will be a win niners are still a mess from the jim break up
Week 7 at Phoenix will be a loss. Coming to Arizona after san fran, the cards are going to light a tired ravens up
Week 8 San Diego at home will be a loss. I think Rivers decides to play his best football against us.
Week 9 Bye
Week 10 Jacksonville at home will be a win. Its the jags and we are at home after the bye
Week 11 St. Louis at home will be a win. fresh off a win and bye and we are back at home starting to click on offense and defense
Week 12 at Cleveland will be a win I see this as a slaughter as we are clicking and they are crumbling as they do in the second half of the season
Week 13 at Miami will be a loss our classic lose to a team we should beat after hitting our stride.
Week 14 Seattle at home will be a win. I think our rough neck football style will shock the legion of boom
Week 15 Kansas City at home will be a loss. Monroe gets dominated by Houston and Hali and Joe has a terrible game
Week 16 Pittsburgh at home will be a win. with our offense clicking and their defense suffering we keep up with their offense and pull it out.
Week 17 at Cincinnati will be a win looking for pay back and a playoff spot. Everyone rallies behind steve smith for his last hoorah
I hate all these injuries. I understand its part of the game blah blah. If perriman doesn't come back soon I hope Waller is given some big chances. IMO he has looked the best with the exception of Camp when he has been in. I like Aiken and Brown, but they are inconsistent and id like to see them give Waller a chance to deliver Joe some consistency
i personally wouldn't mind seeing everyone that's been injured up to this point to just sit and get everything healed and rested up and not try to rush back. I think that's what keeps happening to Camp and Webb. They are so hungry to come back they don't come back at 100% and hurt themselves.
I say give the #2 to Melvin and let webby be a slot or rotational guy. no need in him taking time away from the guys who will be the ones playing by the end of the season b.c he is hurt. Might as well let those guys get adjusted and get the playing time they will need come the playoffs. Besides it will allow webby to last longer and we will have that potential big play he is capable of when he goes in fresh.
And they beat Pitt and Cinci last year, so you're going to tell me they go 5-1 or 4-2 in which division exactly? Maybe the NFC South, but it's unlikely. They aren't going to be a playoff team until they get a legit QB. It's how the NFL works, you have to at least have mediocre QB play, and the Browns don't have that.
tell the 2000 ravens that

I think this is very fair. I might take 2% off Joe and give it to Aiken for that fumble in the beginning that only fueled the flames.
