Former #49ers CB Chris Cook visiting the Baltimore #Ravens, per @MaioccoCSN.
Hopefully they are just updating their emergency list in case someone or multiple people get hurt. If they are signing a corner at this point in time, that has to mean that our corners are struggling mightily.
CB Chris Cook visiting with Ravens!
I'm not even sure who Chris Cook is.
Everyone on this board that is so high on Waller is ridiculous. I would put money down on him being inactive on almost every game day this year.
well that is you using stats as your argument. watching him play for the past 2 years should make it blatantly obvious enough that the guy is extremely limited. sure he made a few 3rd down conversions last year, and yeah he turned upfield and lowered his shoulder a few times and he ran fearless with the ball in his hand, but that doesnt excuse his inability to gain separation in 1v1 matchups, and it doesnt excuse his inability to use his height and length to win on contested passes, why is it that a 6'5" big bodied WR cant make a contested catch to save his life? he isnt fast or quick enough to gain separation on his own, so the only thing hes really good for is making the tough catches, but he can barely do that.
nobody is knocking marlon for being the beneficiary of torrey drawing the attention, i know that is what #2s are supposed to do, but do you really, sincerely think marlon brown is ever going to produce enough to be a #2 on a good offense? with our current offensive expectations, we need our #2 to do more than 500 something yards as the beneficiary of easy assignments, and if our #2 cant draw the easy assignment, we still need him to win.
marlon brown seeing a #3 type of snap count, is basically the teams way of saying "we are scared to see what these guys who had superior preseasons can do, so we are settling for a player that we know is average at best"
stop being blinded by the guys likable attitude and 6'5" frame and skewed rookie year td numbers, pay attention when hes on the field, he is a practice squad/special teamer on probably half the teams in the league.
So you want to discredit Brown who has actually performed in the NFL, and give his spot to Waller, who you believe will be better when he has caught about 50 balls in college? Sounds reasonable.
That's definitely true. The unfortunate thing is that the media drives the preception of fans simple because fans don't get a chance to see practices as often. But there are a ton of factors that go into Schuab as the backup. First of all you are dealing with an extremely young offense who's learning a new system. So you have Schuab behind a less then stellar oline throwing to targets who are learning a offense and learning how to practice at the same time. Meanwhile you have a ton of guys on the defensive side, who while being on the 2nd unit see quality time in the rotation during games. So to me it makes sense that the 2nd defense is consistently ahead of the offense.
Im sorry but i just don't put too much into media reports because most of those guys are just fans with a badge. They look at practice the same way people look at games. Meaning that even they see the whole field they only base opinions on highlights. Those guys don't have inside info and Ozzie certainly doesn't consult them on roster moves. They just report what they see but if they are watching practice through untrained eyes what's the point?
Schuab will be the #2 QB imo and if he has to play more then 4 games the Ravens are probably screwed with the schedule they have and i think that's true for 90% of the backups in the NFL. Especially the drop off from an Elite/Franchise QB to a guy that wouldn't start on most teams.
I know we have a few new pieces that are learning the offense, but in terms of you saying that we are really young is false. In actuality, we have the 10th oldest offense in terms of age in the league. Most of these guys are veterans and should be able to show our few young guys how to practice and prepare, Schaub included. The Ravens being young should not be factored. There are too many items that just raise red flags to the normal and sane person.
Like why he was able to provide two phones (one before the dates, I forgot the span of each instance, and one after the dates involved). I thought he destroyed each phone? I guess he only destroyed the one they were after?
Tom said he provided all of his calls and text messages from the phone that he did have disposed/destroyed. Somewhere around 10,000 text messages in the span. And somehow 3 of them that were sent directly to the equipment manager were somehow not recovered?!?!?? Now come on. Who in the hell would actually believe that these couldn't be recovered when the other 9,997 could be? Also any person with reason can see, that something was said in those three texts that would implicate TB. I truly hope no one would believe otherwise. In a court of jurors, this would just send red flags up everywhere.
I've got real hopes for Waller. When I see him I think about the week 1 game we had against the Broncos a couple years back; watching how much bigger their receivers were compared to our defenders kinda explains how they were able to break that game.(I remember Webb or someone literally climbing on Julius Thomas's back in a attempt to bring him down only to be dragged.) Waller has the potential to be a game breaker, especially if used in the slot. Good luck to the Steelers' 5'9 cornerbacks against 6'6 speedster Waller.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but, as long as mass injuries do not happen, Waller will be lucky to see a handful of snaps, this season. He is way too much of a project at the moment.
People are bringing up stats and obviously it really is the only barometer (besides the eye test) that you can use.
Need to remember that these guys today are probably seeing A LOT more snaps due to hurry up offenses and fast moving offenses. Back in the late 90's and even early 00's, hardly anyone ran the hurry up.
The backup D is shutting down the first O?! Yikes! I would like to see where you read that at. Def. not a good sign if this is happening. May be our offense is no where near where some of us on here expect this year?
yup we need one of the young edge rushers to come out and make a name for themselves.
I can't see suggs or doom replicating to the extent they did last year.
I know there seems to be glowing reviews for kendrick lewis in camp but he's always been the epitome of average so far in his career. He doesn't suck but he isn't good..hes average..
Will Hill will probably be the best player in the secondary. I think his potential at SS is as good as it gets. He's an All Pro. This year people will take notice outside of baltimore
Running off of what you said, I agree with your assessment on K. Lewis. He had his fair share of oopsies in the back of Houstons defense. When the Ravens picked him up, upon reading scouting reports, that was the one thing that came up regularly. (Edit: by oopsies I mean lapses in coverage)
I'm always worried when I read about tendinitis in aging players. I know back in my day, I had a bad case of tendinitis in my throwing shoulder and it took a year of therapy to go away. Also, having PT friends and hearing how long it can linger. Hopefully, Doom doesn't have a reoccurring case and he doesn't re aggravate his Achilles. Worst case scenario for our D (besides the exodus of all of our corners) would be for Suggs or Doom to get injured. That would kill our D IMHO.
Sounds like season ending surgery on his shoulder is the likely scenario. Amazing how back during the draft, all that speculation of us trading ahead for Williams and they panicked and took Golson after we took Williams. Then they denied it saying they wanted him all along and were trying to trade up for him.
Now just like Shazier last year, another rookie defensive player will miss the season with an injury.
Only difference is, with Shazier, they were expecting him to be healthy and start all 16 games. With the acquisition of Boykin, Golson wasn't going to start. At least, I wouldn't think they would ever start him.
Ravens medical staff fear that Elam has completely torn his bicep. Any chance they designate him as the one person they can use the designated to return I.R. tag? Or wait to see if anyone more significant gets injured?
What I meant was, their defense was already terrible last year and they won the division because their offense is so stacked. It's near impossible for them to be worse on defense this year with the acquisitions they have made and also getting rid of their aging veterans who were just down right terrible.
Cameron Heyward who's good. James Harrison only shows up against us.
But that's pretty much it. Jarvis Jones sucks. Shazier has speed but will probably be injured. Timmons is actually a great LB...
Not really scared
The problem is that their defense only has to be average and they will be good.
PFF had him rated as a top 25 corner and they traded him for a 5th rounder. One in which will probably be in the back of the order. What in the hell are the Eagles doing this offseason?
How in the heck did a low level team not beat that deal?! What a steal.
Bell officially down to 2 game suspension. Sucks for the Ravens because at his 3 game suspension, and our Thursday night game, he would have only been allowed to practice for two days. Now he has a week and a half to practice and also help out the Steelwrs greatly against the Rams.
While there is talk of a settlement in Br*dy's case, the NFL and NFLPA are talking settlement for Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell which would reduce his suspension from 3 games to 1 or 2 games.
That is what the N
Wow.... glad to see the NFLPA supports players who get a DUI by trying to get their suspension lowered.
That is what the NFLPA is in place for. To protect the players when they have been wrongly/unjustly suspended.(obviously there are a multitude of other aspects that it's in place for) Just like in the Hardy case, they felt that he had already served his suspension last year and fought for him to get his 10 game suspension reduced. They won and got it to 4.
In Bell's case, I believe I read that he took classes and took some type of probation to have the charges dismissed from his record. We have seen in other cases that doing those steps has resulted in a reduction of a suspension.
I really don't think that the NFLPA is condoning going out and smacking around women or doing drugs and driving around. They are simply doing their job and fighting for the players rights.
Nobody has won more than 1 SB since Flacco has been in the league, and I said Flacco was better than all of them in the postseason, and Aaron Rodgers does not have "WAYYY" better stats in the postseason than Joe. Joe has better postseason stats than anyone in the league since entering his prime. 24tds, 4ints since 2010. And judging qbs strictly by how many SBs they have won would mean Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino, so that shows how flawed that logic is. Flacco has consistently given his team a better chance to win the SB than anyone over the last 5 years. Even when he has lost, he has thrown perfect passes in clutch situations that were dropped, and last year he led his team to two 14 point leads. If someone drops a pass or if the secondary has 6 players out, that's out of his control, and it's one of the reasons why it's so ridiculous to say that he's need more help. That argument could have held up in his first 2 seasons, but not in the last 5.
Since this is a poll of who the best QB's are in the NFL right now, and not who has had more post season success since Joe Flacco has entered the league, I tend to agree with where he is ranked.
You are implying that just because Flacco hasn't been in the league as long as Ben/Brady/Manning, that we should throw out all of their early successes?
People just flat out make stuff up to discredit Flacco. Not one of the "top tier" qbs has ever carried his team with less help than Flacco. And when Flacco puts up better postseason numbers than all of them, they credit his receivers????? As far as that goes, he's done more with less help than all the "top tier" qbs. Would any of those execs take Torrey Smith over Moss, Gronk, Antonio Brown, Jimmy Smith, Wayne, Harrison, or Thomas? No. The Ravens have invested far less in their receiving corps than any of those teams with a "top tier" qb, yet Flacco has been better than all of them when it counts the most, and he has won more than any of them since he's been in the league, with and without a great defense.
Sorry to be the Debbie Downer, but you are just flat wrong that Flacco has been better than everyone in the top tier.
What is the point to a football season? To win the Super Bowl, most would say. Flacco has only got the Ravens to one of them. At the end of the day, who cares if the Ravens made the playoffs 6 out of 7 years? To me, that says that they have only been able to meet their goal 1 out of 6 times. Now I know most of you will say "Well at least the Ravens are there and have a chance to win it". I am speaking in total hindsight but which scenario is better. Winning it once every say about 8 years and the rest of the seasons not making the playoffs/getting a better draft position? Or making it all the times the Ravens did and only getting there once? Like I said, this is purely hindsight since we all know the outcome that happened, but I would rather have the team that got better draft pics, at the end of the day. Like the old saying goes, if you aren't first, you're last.
But getting back to what you said about Flacco being better than everyone in tier 1. Tom Brady has 4 Super Bowl rings and what 6 or 7 appearances? How in the hell could you possibly say Flacco is better than that? Rodgers also led his team to 1 SB and has WAYYYY better stats than Flacco. Big Ben has been to 3 SB's and has won 2. Brees, I believe he has won 1 also along with Manning. This along with all of these guys having way better stats than him. Like I said earlier, does it really matter if we make it to the playoffs and can't come through in the end? (Obviously it is a team game and it wasn't always Flacco's fault)
To summarize, Flacco is placed right where he belongs. He has had many opportunities to get to tier 1 but has not capitalized on winning another Super Bowl.
The argument about the quality/number of capable receivers has zero to do with the talent level of a QB, and everything to do with stats. It should be obvious that if a ball is caught, it adds to a QBs stats. If that same throw is dropped, no add to the stats. It ain't rocket science, just simple fact.
Like I stated in an earlier post, if old and sluggish means throwing for 5,000 yards and a division title, then by all means, I'll go to bed each and every night praying that Flacco looks old and sluggish, this year.
Antonio Brown, Leveon Bell, Heath Miller, Marcus Wheaton, Martavis Bryant. How many yards and TDs do you think Joe would have had last year throwing to that group.
Watching him play, IMO Jen looked old and sluggish compared to previous years.
Your argument is just pointless. It doesn't matter if he had Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Calvin Johnson and Bo Jackson. He doesn't have his stats discounted. He still put up those numbers.
We can make arguments all we want about his weapons. Guess what, his only one that was a first round choice is his aging TE. All 3 WR's you mentioned were 3rd, 4th and 6th rounders. With the 3rd being the least productive. Let's not act like Ben sucks and his WR's had him throwing for 5,000 yards. The QB makes the WR.
Definitely agree with this. Ben is still good, but is beginning to look sluggish and old. All of that abuse he has taken is catching up with him. Joe is now The Man in the AFCN and will continue to improve.
If sluggish and old means throwing for 4,950 yards and 32 TD's, then by all means, I really hope Flacco looks sluggish and old this year.

This. Also, the Ravens have other options that are more experienced and better at this time. He may be the 4th option in the passing game. SSS, whoever the TE is and Forsett. I'll put my money on Forsett having more catches than Perrimen this year.
