I enjoyed John Eisenberg's column about Flacco's contract, but I'm confused as to how much we can realistically lower his cap hit next year?

 

He's going to want more money per year on a new contract, and eventually we have to pay for the low cap numbers we've had from him for three years. The only thing that will help offset this is that the Team Cap Limit will increase a bit each year, but that alone doesn't seem to be enough and league wide salaries at other positions also increase each year.

 

Can someone provide a logical scenario as to how we do this?

I imagine the Ravens will re-work the deal (restructure) and give him an extension. In other words, they'll give him a "signing bonus" of like $30M and add on 3 or 4 years to the back end to spread everything out, keeping the cap hit manageable.

He is, at least this year, one of the purest shooters in the game. Such a beautiful process watching him setup and take a shot. And even with all the picks, bumping, diving after him...he nails the shot. Cant take that way from him.

Yup. Smith had that one nice 3 to end the first half but was MIA the rest of the way... I think Cleveland would've run away with this series if K-love and Irving were healthy. But, you never know.

I don't see how the Cavs can win without Irving... LeBron played out of his mind last night and it still wasn't enough. Feel awful for them.

Summer in Destin travel has started. 2 hours into the 5 hour drive to VA Beach. Picking up a boat here and spending 3 days with the in-laws and then 13 hours to Destin for just shy of 3 months. Just NEED to get there, cause these next few days will be BRUTAL!!!

I feel like the Ravens and Ravens Nation might be pleasantly surprised by Elam's play this season. He seems to be extra focused/motivated. Maybe things will turn around?

Machado's defensive woes are a real concern... it seems to have rubbed off on everyone as well. The O's have A LOT of work to do if they want to repeat as AL East champs. We just look awful.

I want Flacco but there seems to be a curse when I buy jerseys.

 

I bought #52 before 2012 ---> he retires the after season

I bought #27 before 2013 ---> he has his worst year and...other things we won't get into

I bought #82 before 2014 ---> he has an underwhelming year and leaves in FA

 

The only jersey that hasn't been jinxed was my very first, good old dependable #20 that I bought back in 2010.

 

I want #5 but I'm afraid I'll curse him too.

Since Ngata and T. Smith left during free agency, the only active player's jersey I have is Suggs.

I currently have 92, 82, 52, 27 and 20.  :-(   Since Jimmy signed a long term deal, I will definitely get his.  I'm on the fence about Tucker and Mosely since they could bounce after their rookie contract. I don't know why I haven't purchased Flacco's to date, but I'll pick his up as well. 

 

So what jersey are you buying this season?

I got burned last season when I bought a Torrey Smith jersey, thinking there's no way he'd leave his "hometown" team. Boy was I wrong! Thankfully, I've still got an Ed Reed (will never go out of style) and a Mosley. If I get one it'll be Suggs (Ravens legend), Flacco (Franchise QB for many more years to come), or Jimmy Smith (recently locked-up long term).

Depending how Perriman performs, he might be another possibility!
