  1. So wait...........

Miz vs Cena vs R-Truth??? for the WWE Title at Extreme Rules??? I see why Truth is thrown in there, so Cena doesn't get pinned in back to back PPVs and so Miz can keep the title while Miz/Cena can continue in the Summer.

Don't understand throwing R-Truth in there... I'd never heard of him before tonight and I've been watching RAW the past few months. He's not going to win, so his presence just doesn't make sense, except to be someone else to get pinned by The Miz like you said... The Miz will retain once again. It's too early for Cena to take the WWE Championship. I have a feeling he'll earn it much closer to April 1.

  2. Yep, it's for real. Edge hugged Dolph Ziggler, hugged Goldust without make-up, and hugged a few more people that he normally wouldn't be seen hugging on-camera. In today's kayfabe-heavy broadcasts, they wouldn't break kayfabe unless it was for real. I think even the announcers were thrown off by the announcement since their reaction is a little more somber than when even Shawn Michaels made his retirement speech. The dirt sheets also never got wind of the announcement in advance, so it's most likely for real.

I was shocked to hear Edge retire... he was one of my faves growing up.

  3. Every reality show has canned drama. It's no secret that producers will put reality show casts in situations that breed conflict, or will edit footage in a way that intentionally depicts someone in a certain manner. In the case of shows such as MTV's slate of "reality" shows, producers will even outright tell their cast members to do or say something to get a desired reaction.

Oh, for sure, I guess I'm more getting at the fact that I don't think Tough Enough's outcome is already predetermined like WWE in general... but I could be wrong.

  4. See that is what really turns me away from the show. They call it reality but it's not when producers behind the scenes are telling people who to be mad at and it's just unnecessary drama. With the old Tough Enough show, that was built around who could wrestle, who could take bumps and people got legit mad at each other and it was really about who might become a WWE Superstar. Like you said Miss USA is only there for ratings and they will boot her off when it's time and for the most part if they could get it how the old TE show was I would watch it.

Where did you hear that? I think any drama you saw was legit. It'll get better tonight.

  5. Jim Ross was formerly the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations (John Laurinaitis is now in that capacity) and is now an Executive Talent Relations Consultant. Basically, both jobs entail relaying storylines to the wrestlers while also helping them to adjust to life on the road. As Executive VP, the job also included elements of scouting, but not an exact emphasis on it. As a consultant, JR has less input in storylines and is less in the loop. Triple H's job focuses exclusively on scouting while also taking part in production aspects behind the scenes.

As for the Morrison-Melina saga, Melina apparently tweeted her displeasure about the Stratus situation, making subtle hints towards Stratus having taken other Divas' spots. C'mon, Melina, if anyone was to blame, it was Snooki! If not for Snooki becoming a pseudo-celebrity, WWE may never have targeted her as a side attraction. Trish has nothing to do with this situation, as she would've made an appearance to promote Tough Enough anyway. Melina is a decent wrestler, but she needs to get her ego in check; she lets it manifest in public far too much, in both her alleged interaction with fans as well as her use of social media. I think she let Bret Hart's compliments get to her head.

Trish will always be my #1 Diva

  6. WWE has a press release making its rounds, stating the company's intention to re-brand itself. The company is now formally known as simply WWE, with the tagline "Bigger. Badder. Better." Also, Triple H is now heading a new talent development department, with Sin Cara being the first formal signing (thanks, Hunter!)

The biggest revelation (other than the semi-name change) is that the company is outsourcing the entertainment aspects of its operations, namely in terms of television and film production, and licensing. In other words, the wrestling will remain in the hands of the current decision-makers (including Triple H) but the other stuff (namely WWE Films/Studios) will be handled by outsiders.

Also, WWE plans on moving forward with The WWE Network sometime within the next year or two, and they've already met with cable providers like Verizon to negotiate deals.

Frankly, I don't really care about the name change or the added emphasis on entertainment. As long as they keep the wrestling in the hands of people who know wrestling, I don't care. They also need to be careful not to spread themselves too thin and have the wrestling itself be even more diluted than it already is.

Does the "Badder" indicate a move away from PG and back to a more PG-13 type show?

  7. I also tried looking at flights and hotels in advance, and I couldn't go past November or December in many cases. I'd rather book as early as possible so I can cancel as needed.

Exactly same here. I tried looking for both, Flights and Hotels and can't get to April 2012. I know people will be flocking to look for hotels in Miami and even air fare and I'd rather know I have mine booked and plus I'm trying to find something near Sun Life Stadium as well.

Don't book too early though, you won't get as good a deal. You won't have a problem finding a flight to, and place in, Miami.

  8. I'm not squeamish and don't cringe typically, but seeing his head bounce off the floor did make me cringe. I mean, his head bounced off the floor like a ball, there's no way that couldn't hurt like a son of a.

I'm actually amazed that there aren't more serious injuries more often.... being slammed into the side walls, even with padding, can't be pleasant, and flying over the top ropes onto the mat is also dangerous... it may be "fake," but the dangers are still very very real.

  9. I'm sure Miz had the tests that needed to be done, I don't think Vince or the WWE would let that nasty hit go unchecked. Truth be told, I didn't even notice Miz's head bounce off the concrete while it happened in real time... not until Miz pointed it out on Raw. You have to give props to the man for coming back to the ring in any capacity to finish the match.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering... it looked like a bad hit, especially considering he had no helmet and there was no padding in that area.

  10. I'm with you on the big boots, there's some nasty ones there. But dropkicks, just like Orton's punt are pulled so they don't hit with full power. And especially with the newer punts, you can see that he pulls it. He doesn't even stretch his leg out.

The thing with boots, punches, dropkicks and punts is that when you get hit, you can turn your head so that the hit connects at an angle and "brushes" off. There are of course some that really connect, this is a contact "sport" after all.

Just watch Cena get hit, then you can see a man that overacts the pull :P

But using the 619 as an example is just weird. That move is probably the weakest hitting finisher in the WWE, maybe even the weakest move all together.

There is a reason the "do not try this at home" disclaimer is running, they have more focus on injuries now, just like the NFL.

These are trained professionals and know how to make it look real. :)

(The whole PG thing obviously restricts it a hell of a lot more than it should)

I know the 6-1-9 is weak, but the point is that it affects the head, which could lead to concussions... these guys do an exceptional job at making it "look" real, there's no doubt about that.

  11. Okay... so Randy Orton can get a running start and kick people in the head, but you're not allowed to hit people in the head with a chair? We all know there are "safe" ways of taking a chair shot, ways that I'm sure both men are aware of, just as there are "safe" ways for taking Orton's punt. Annoying.

I'm with you ATD. There's definitely a double standard in the WWE... have they seen some of the missile dropkicks these guys perform? What about the 6-1-9? Big boots?

Yes, a metal chair can be far more dangerous, but I don't think you can fine for one offense, and not another.

  12. As I've thought more about it, I realized that the match can be a disappointment in only two ways: 1) If there's a false finish; and 2) if either man is unable to deliver even half of what they've been able to do in the past.

Bear in mind, it's been quite a while since we've seen Cena carry a match. He had some good ones with Edge in the past, but there were times where he had a lesser opponent and failed to make the match look as great as it could've been. While Rock is hardly a lesser opponent, he'll still have ring rust, even if he decides to get in the ring a few times prior to WrestleMania. Rock is one of the all-time greats because he was so good at ring psychology, so if Cena can't match his intensity, the match could end up being merely average compared to the billing.

I'm sure the hype machine will be rolling for the next year which will undoubtedly raise expectation so high that some are bound to be at least somewhat disappointed... I think it's going to be an epic match.

  13. This is just sad. From Wrestling-Edge (http://www.wrestling-edge.com/wwe-news-rumors/gohome-smackdown-rating-update-reported-wwe-releases.html)

So yeah, WM27 featured less wrestling than the Royal Rumble, and just 10 minutes more than the Elimination Chamber, despite being an hour and fifteen minutes longer. Considering how long that Cole match was (too long)...like I said, sad. Wrestlemania should be a lot better than this.

Another thing, about this Rock vs Cena match. They just booked a match a YEAR in advance that everyone who has ever been a fan of wrestling will want to see. A lot of things can happen in a year, especially for someone like John Cena who is going to be wrestling every week. They can not afford for this match to end up not happening. That would be a catastrophe for the WWE. I wonder if we're going to see Cena get protected big time or what. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him eat a Wasteland between now and then...

You'd think The Rock would want to start wrestling more to get back in wrestling shape in preparation of the Main Event.... I don't think they'll protect Cena too much as he's still a huge draw and ratings guy...
