I'm disappointed with the 'Dark Shadows' movie coming out.
I started watching the original 1966 TV series 5 years ago and am ONLY on episode 815. The new movie does not pay tribute to the original series at all.
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have turned it into a Carnival fun house rather than the supernatural character driven aspect of the original.
Jesus Christ. Mid 30s is considered "old"? I'm screwed.
Hell yea, Mid-30 is old. Your like a granpa.
Luckily I am still 'young' in my early 30s. I'm going to savuer everyday of my youth for the next couple years.
Watched The Artist last night. A little overrated, but I still really enjoyed it. Also watched 50/50 for the 2nd time. Really great movie.
A lot of the Oscar best pictures this year are overrated. Just a bunch of self-occupied Hollywood 'art'. The Artist, Hugo and Extremely Loud & Incredibly close.
I haven't seen it. I think I was 17 at the time it came out so my parents didn't let me go
You need to stop spending so much time at the theater.
What you need is a good dvd player and Netflix disc account. Catch up on some of the things you missed.
anyone seen No Country For Old Men?
I just bought it on Blu Ray. I am wondering what to expect
Pretty good stuff. Excellent casting. What took you so long to watch?
I watched the original last night. Excellent movie! Have you seen the two follow ups? Just want to know if they're as good as the first or is there a significant drop-off like a lot of sequels?
I applaud you for seeing the original one first. Haven't seen the follow ups. Hornest nest or Fire. Sure they aren't as good since the original crushed Swedish records.
I'm sure if the US version does well they'll spit out the Hornet's Nest and Fire sequels quickly.
What's everybody's favorite Christmas movie?
Mines gotta be 'A Christmas Story'. Classic that gets better with time.
Horrible Bosses might be the worst movie I've ever seen.
Yea just watched it the other night. It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good either. A lot of star power. The only thing I took from that movie is where do I find a boss like Aniston? My boss is a bald dorkie who only shops at Costco's and sings in the church choir.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was an excellent movie. I highly recommend it, as long as you don't take your kids, lol.
I agree. The original Swedish Film was very good. Noomi Rapace was phenomenal. Not sure why there needs to be an American Remake (even though Fincher says its not) when the original was only 2 years old.
Seriously, does Hollywood even know how to be creative on its own anymore? Remakes, Reboots and Sequels seem to be the majority of blockbusters nowadays.
Not surprised they remade this film so fast because of the proven track record the original film had. Hollywood did the same thing with "Let the Right One In"
Okay, I'm getting off my hipster movie podium now.
Have another addition to Purock's list of most disturbing films.
Dogtooth (2009). It is a greek film (yes with subtitles). It isn't a horror film. Just odd with disturbing imagery. It is currently streaming.
And in case you missed it. The film that still sits near the top of my disturbing films is 'Irreversible' (2002). This is a film that will leave you wondering why some films are even made. What's the point?
I've been meaning to see that! I've heard good things about it. I watched some stupid movie called Grace on FEARnet. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with absolutely zero laughs besides that, and Human Centipede 2. Just both, really weird flicks.
I did watch 'Grace' as part of my October Horror watching. And Honestly I can barely even remember it. Just remember that the baby bites and liked the blood.
Because I liked Hostel lol? She single-handedly ruined Grown Ups, Brides Maids and the potentially entertaining Up All Night television show. She's lucky I can't stand Christina Applegate either. If it wasn't for Maya Rudolph though, Whitney Cummings would be my most disliked actress ever.
On another note, The Sitter was horrendous. Some parts funny, most parts stupid.
I'm pretty sure that movie was ruined before it was ever made. I can't believe they are going to do a sequel. If you think Maya was the only thing stopping that movie from even being good......I don't even know what to say.
Anyone agree that Jim Carrey's best performance is in one of the very few serious roles he's done? I'm talking about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Great film!
Agreed. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a five star movie to me. I really liked it.
Jim Carey's performance in it (switching out of his type cast) reminds me of what Adam Sandler did in Punch Drunk Love.
Please tell me it did.
Not until I went to college and got on the T. Leary treatment.
Yes, sir! Fraggle Rock was my show back in the day... I think we have a couple of books lying around somewhere too.
Same here. I grew up on Fraggle Rock.
I use to go into the backyard and see if the leaf pile would have a conversation with me.
Hans Zimmer is certainly one of the best film composers of this generation.
Ever since Beetlejuice I've been a fan of Danny Elfman. Ofcourse he is sort of like Burton's musical henchman.
Hot to Trot anybody?
No, you saw the bad version
Yep. I was going to ask which version. Then I realized that most posters on here only see whatever the new version is.
I haven't seen the new version of LHOTL, only the old version. The old version was creepy in a 70's porn type way. Definitely one of the odd men out in Craven's movies.
That last portion sold me. I may watch it right now.
I highly recommend it. Its a fun watch. However its not one that wives might enjoy. Its currently rocking 3.5 on 300k+ reviews which is pretty good by Netflix standards.
I don't know how much publicity it had in the States when it was released but I believe it had a pretty limited release here in the UK with not much promotion, even though it's based on one of our most high profile prisoners. I agree on it being a good movie!
Yea, the states had zero publicity for it. Seen it on Netflix a few times and the movie podcast (The Film Vault) I listen to it gave it a rave review. So I gave it a try. Gave it 5 out of 5 stars.
Its like a cross between 'A Clockwork Orange' and a violent 'Shawshank Redemption'.
Anybody else ever watch 'Bronson'? It's currently on Netflix Instant Watch, I just watched it yesterday. I thought it was a very, very good movie. Surprised how under the radar it went.
Anyone seen Friends with Benefits? Yeah, it's kinda girly, but I like it.
Btw, just finished The Social Network, which is a pretty good movie too. Kudos
What is wrong with you son?
Just watched the Korean flick "I Saw the Devil".
Not what I expected. It was very, very good. But I wouldn't say that it fits the horror genre all that much. I was expecting another demented ghostly Asian tale but it was more of a sick serial killer type movie.
I loved El Superbeasto.
If it didn't have a plethora of cartoon boobs would you still love it?
Insidious was great. One of the only movies that still creeps me out. Trying to sleep has been a chore.
Halloween has always been my favorite in the "hollywood monster" group. 1 and 2 were great, and when I heard that Rob Zombie was redoing them, I remember saying, "So is this going to add Mike to the Devil's Rejects crew as an honorary member?"
I have never been too impressed with any of Rob's work post-White Zombie.
I'm probably in the minority but I really like "House of a 1000 corpses". It's a gruesome fun house with great characters. However I did not like the follow up of "The Devils Rejects".
Then I had such high hopes for "El Superbeasto," but it turned out to be just cartoon monster porn. It was pretty bad.

I seem to be heading down that path as well. My wife doesn't want to have kids, she's 'career driven'. I would. Isn't it suppose to be the other way around?
