  1. thanks i must look into them. are most of the movies based on books, goodfellas, casino, a bronx tale etc etc

Don't know. If they were, they aren't anywhere on the standards of Puzo's books. The majority of movies are based on some novel usually. So it wouldn't surprise me if they were.

But the Bronx tale is interesting because it was written by and starred Chazz Palminteri. He actually wrote it as a one-man play based on his own life story. He wouldn't sell the rights unless he could write the screenplay for the movie and play Sonny.

But on top of that, Chazz opened up an Italian Restaurant in Baltimore that has some awesome meatballs. haha.

The resturant's name? Chazz: A Bronx Original

  2. The godfather novel? how does it compare to the movies, or should i say how do the movies compare to it? do they keep to it, or not? have you read game of thrones, im assuming youve watched it, its a good read.

The novels are amazing. Nobody writes about life in New York as an Italian like Puzo.

The novel is damn good as well.

If you like that book you should read "The Fortunate Pilgrim" by Puzo. Puzo credited that novel as the inspiration place for the Godfather.

  3. Well I barely watch any TV now a days. Right now, my TV is just on NFL Network 24/7 during the day, at night I'll watch American Dad and Family Guy on Adult Swim, then end the night watching King of Queens on TV Land. The only other two shows I watch are Law & Order SVU(the reruns on USA Network, haven't watched any of the new ones since Christopher Meloni left the show) and reruns of NCIS on USA Network. Then Monday Night Raw on USA. So basically I watch 3 channels, USA Network, TV Land and Cartoon Network when they air Adult Swim.

You do know that watching NFL Network 24/7 is considered watching tv, right?

  4. Lol, when I saw Taxi Driver it took me a few seconds to realize that he was in it. He was so young in that. I started watching movies of his when he was older, like Goodfellas,Casino and A Bronx Tale. It's wierd going backwards haha.

I still haven't seen any of The Godfather's, I really need too soon, I feel I'm missing out.

Deer Hunter is great. Love anything that Walken is in. King of New York anyone?

  5. I've never been a huge Scorsese fan. The movie of his that I like the best is Gangs of New York. But that might be because Day-Lewis stole the show. Bringing out the dead is underrated as well.

But you can't go wrong with Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, or Casino. But to really enjoy those you need to be a De Niro fan as well.

  6. Oh Twin Peaks FTW. Awesome show.

On the American HS topic, I heard it was going to be a whole new house/family. I have no proof to back that up though.

    EDIT

    1964 INSANE ASYLUM!!!!!!!

Now that sounds like fun. I got all excited because the article says Ralph Fiennes is joining the cast. But that's an error its actually his brother Joseph Fiennes that is joining the cast. He played in title role on the short-lived Flash Forward.

  7. I definitely need to see The Wire and Fringe (is it done now or still new seasons coming?)

Also, when is American Horror Story starting again? My wife and I LOVED it.

I need to go back and watch some X-Files and 24.

Fringe has one last shortened season. Begins this Fall w/ a 13 episode season finale. Great show. If you like X-files, this is the modern version.

Speaking of X-files I went back and watched the entire collection a few years back. One of the best tv shows of all time. Twin Peaks by far the best.

American Horror Story starts in Oct. It'll be interesting to see how they continue since

    they are all dead.

  8. Yeah Nacho Libre had it's moments, and I think it was better than Pick of Destiny, but it wasn't Jack Black's best. And I know Ferrell is better than Jack Black, but I just think Ferrell made a mistake with that movie. I will see Campaign though. I have Tango and Cash up next for my Netflix queue. Good movie.

Haha. Tango and Cash. Too much bro-love in that film. But it did have the guy with the biggest chin in the world, Robert Z'Dar.

  9. Excluding anything NFL related, what are your favorite shows to watch on TV?

I like Whale Wars, My Cat from Hell, Gold Rush, I Shouldn't be Alive, Fatal Attractions, Fatal Encounters, Bate Car, World's Dumbest..., and Cops.

AMC has been on fire for me

Breaking Bad (Just finished watching first 4 seasons and watching 5th season live), Hell on Wheels, Mad Men, Walking Dead. Besides AMC I am also a huger 'Fringe' fan and also watch 'American Horror Story', 'Wilfred',

I'm catching up on some old series as well through Netflix. 'Dark Shadows', 'The Wire' and 'Arrested Development'.

  10. Anyone see "Casa De Mi Padre" with Will Ferrell? I never really heard of it until I saw a preview on a DVD. I assume that qualifies it as less than stellar (?)

Actually watched this last night. Its pretty funny at times but it overall it fell a bit short. I actually prefer Nacho Libre over Casa De Mi Padre.

Both play similar roles. The stupid person on a mission.

  11. My mom told me my grandfather was in the movie "And Justice For All" with Al Pacino.

Has anyone seen it? I know it's really old.

It was alright. I think its a bit over hyped. Those were the years that Pacino was on fire. I would recommend 'Dog Day Afternoon' or 'Serpico' before '....And Justice for All'.

That movie does have Pacino ranting that famous line:

You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They're out of order!

  12. I just watched 'Salo, 120 days of Sodom' last night. A film that has been banned in many countries but has been hailed as a work of art by many top critics. A very tough watch but does have many social/political undertones. In my eyes, probably not art. But it is artistic.

The film is definitely a top entry on my most disturbing films list. I felt dirty and depraved after watching it.

  13. I just watched another screwed-up movie. "Visitor Q" a perverted film by the legendary Takashi Mike. Covers most topics. Incest, Necrophilia, Bullying, Rape, lactation, prostitution and a whole lot of other goodies. Definitely adding it to my most disturbing films list.

I also watched 'Begotten'. Very hard piece to watch. Disturbing, yes. Art, sure. Lots of imagery that you have to know about before watching the film.

  14. Somehow I made it through The Human Centipede 2. I feel like I should get a boyscout badge of honor or something.

The movie does make it onto my most disturbing films list. The film was an interesting take on fans of the first film (using the first film throughout) and the main character was portrayed quite well. I heard that he isn't even an actor, just a guy they found.

I hope they cease the movie franchise now. I don't know how they can further it.

  15. I cant think of one movie that was better than the book that spawned it. Its impossible. Books make your brain work.

That's because books allow you to essentially create the environment (and characters somewhat), which will always trump what a director pushes to you.

  16. Just watched "Face off" for the first time. It has John Travolta and Nicholas Cage in it. It was pretty old and corny but I think it was kind of funny and good lol.

That is my favorite John Woo film. You'd think a film with Cage & Travolta would suck with over-the-topness. But it actually worked itself into a fun action movie.

  17. I own this movie just so the ending floors me. It's unreal.

Since getting a kindle fire, I've been reading the 30 days of night comic. Again, unreal. Lol. Much more brutal than the film.

I am on the fire right now. I'll have to check out the comics one day.

I didn't think I'd like the movie with Josh Harnett and all, but those style of vamps were awesome. Especially Danny Hutson.

  18. My favorite type of movie would be horror movies. Anyone have any suggestions seen a fair amount so give me a lot of good ones

Let's see if I can pick some rarer ones.

Martyrs (2008) - Foreign movie but it makes you think and squeam.

Dead End (2003) - Watched this last year and absolutely loved it.

Triangle (2009) - Alternate time lines

Burnt Offering (1976) - Older but a classic

    Deadgirl (2008)

The Mist (def watch this if you haven't - one of the best endings (or worst))

30 days of night - One of my favorite vampire movies

The Devil's Chair - Reminds me of Guy Ritchie meets horror.

    The Ruins
