  1. Did they make you watch it in school or something? Bruno Ganz was incredible as Hitler. I'm so used to seeing him in mild-mannered roles (Like Unknown).
  2. I saw Rampage. It was intense, I thought it was just okay. I'm not a fan of Fletcher. But the movie did what it wanted to do. Piss off and scare the viewer. In terms of terrorizing, I enjoyed 'God Bless America' and 'He Was a Serious Man' more.
  3. Out of the 481 I've watched this year: Classics Faust (1926) - Beautiful Movie Bicycle Thieves (1948) - #91 all-time on IMDB General Tree of Life (2011) Little Children (2006) - Don't be fooled by the cover, this is a gritty movie Argo (2012) - Although the manufactured tension drove me a bit nuts Margin Call (2011) Warrior (2011) Duel (1971) Paper Moon (1973) - Ryan O'Neal at his finest Hesher (2010) He Was a Quiet Man (2009) Documentary Resurrect Dead (2011) - Should be the model for docs. Winnebago Man (2009) - One of the first viral videos of a cursing sales man Paradise Lost: Child Murders at Robin Hood (1996) Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back (1967) Six Degrees of Helter Skelter (2009) Horror Trick 'r Treat (2007) - I watch this every year on Halloween. Rave about it. Carnival of Lost Souls (1962) Pontypool (2008) - Fresh take on the Zombie genre The Cabin in the Woods (2011) The Ressurrected (1992) Foreign Downfall (2004) - Who better than to act out Hitler's final days than the Germans Taxidermia (2006) - A bit insane As for comedy. I was a sucker for Goon (2011), The Change-Up and That's My Boy (2012) <----- Gets a bad rap, it made me laugh.
  4. I'm up to 481 watched movies during 2012. I might make it to 500 by the end of the year. I know the number sounds insane. But I've spent the entire 2012 year studying 3 hours a day for the CPA exam. While studying, I watch movies. Plus a lot of movies are only 1 hour and some change (mostly horror) . I'm going to be soooo happy when I get my life back. But it has been fun watching movies.
  5. I'm just giving you a hard time. You seem like somebody who watches a lot of movies. So I'll give some 'hidden gem' suggestions. These all have under 3000 votes on IMDB and I've rated 7 or above. These ofcourse will all be hit or miss depending upon your preferences. Ricky 6 (2000 - Rare and hard to find) 7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964) Escanaba in da Moonlight (2001) Christmas Story (2007 - Christmas pick from Finland) Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010 - The whole movie is like an acid trip) The Living Wake (2007) Drones (2010) Anywhere, USA (2008)
  6. Watch you think of Hesher? I too watched John Carter. Got a bad wrap. Though it felt like a mash of Avatar with the new Star Wars. One thing is for sure, Taylor Kitsch is no leading man.
  7. You have somebody talking about John Carter and Hesher and you recommend Birth of a Nation? You have to love the art of film and film history to enjoy Birth. Not something you pop in for a enjoyable flick. Great movie though but not for everyone. You ever see Faust? Amazing cinematography with a crazy budget for the times.
  8. Well was it made in the 80's?..........No. Seriously though. Howard the Duck gets a bad rap (4.3 on IMDB). Lea Thompson was hot in it and it had boy-lover Jeffery Jones. Do you guys know that Howard the Duck was the first Marvel Comic inspired movie? "Hey guys what Marvel comic should we make first into a movie, Fantastic Four? Avengers? Spider-Man?" "Ummm, I don't know...... how about Howard the Duck?"
  9. Dark Crystal was about as freaky as it comes when your a kid. Henson is a mastermind. I really didn't get an appreciation for Time Bandits until I grew up. I don't believe I've ever seen Cloak and Dagger. At least not to my recognition, I might remember it if I start watching it.
  10. What's your favorite 80's movie from when you were a kid? I think mine was Willow. For my 8th birthday party my parents took all my friends to see it. But the 'Neverending Story' was also epic. Labyrinth, Pee-Wee, Howard the Duck, Weird Science, the list goes on......
  11. Its streaming on Netflix if you want to take a trip down memory lane.
  12. Ofcourse. Flight of the Navigator was good but I am surprised they are remaking that one. One of my favorite kid adventures from the 80's was 'Explorers'. It had young Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix. But don't get me started on 80's movies. I can go on forever. A lot of creativity and fun in 80's cinema.
  13. Not really. AMC's hiatuses seem to last longer than most other networks. Though lately a lot of shows are seeing long splits in the winter season.
  14. Perhaps the Walking Dead wasn't the best example. But Mad Men was off the air for 17 months.
  15. It seems to be AMC's forte. They've given the same long hiatus's to Mad Men and the Walking Dead. Breaking Bad is one of the best written shows there is. While many other scripted series leave questions and holes in stories, Breaking Bad ties everything together down to the smallest details. Vince Gilligan knows how to write. I'm looking forward to what he brings after Breaking Bad.
  16. Speaking of RocknRolla, anybody else love Thandie Newton as much as I? Even though she is 40, she still rocks it. Maybe its because she reminds me of one of my gfs from college (If she were 40).
  17. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking barrels doesn't get the love that Snatch does, but it should. I watched it when it came out in 1998 and it instantly rocketed to my top 10 movies. Snatch does the style better but it is built off LSTSB. Hell yea. Toby Kebbell made this movie for me. I can never get the song 'Bankrobber' by Clash out of my head because of this movie. Daddy was a Bankrobber!!!
  18. I like how this post was edited yet the edit displays what was originally wrote.
  19. I like Last Resort. Its getting killed in ratings and won't make it past the season. I feel like the show is confused as to who it wants to cater to.
  20. Had to look on IMDB: "A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers." Please tell me that a 30 y.o. , steroid infused Hemsworth isn't pulling off a HSer?
  21. I just wish some classics would be left alone. Nobody can ever replicate the feel that the Original Red Dawn created. There was the feeling of almost melancholy throughout the movie. Coupled with Swayze, Sheen, Lea, Jennifer Grey. The new Red Dawn is the same unoriginal, uninspired pile of Hollywood poo. Led by Hemsworth.
  22. Deploy Operation: Next Step
  23. Nice... Make sure you wear your top hat.
  24. Daniel Day + Lincoln = Automatic Oscar winner. This was designed perfectly and being released in Oscar season. Planning on seeing it sometime in the next month.
  25. I know a lot of people like to hate on Tree of Life. But if you have the patience and love for film making Tree of Life is a beautiful masterpiece. I really liked it a lot. Deep and serene. Its definitely not for people who can't watch 'boring' movies.
