Maybe while they are at the bowl games the plan to meet with some prospects its possible . we seem to be the only team who can interview candidates and it not get leaked to the press ever lol .
I have my opinion about who will be hired/promoted but was anyone been able to confirm whether Kubiak was actually interviewed by the ravens. I saw a twitter feed saying he was having a meal at Jimmy's but then was told the picture was an old one so not sure how reliable that was.
More sad, related facts from today's Late For Work:
The Ravens defense set an “unwanted” team record by allowing 134 points in the fourth quarter, the most in team history. “It was strange to see the Ravens defense play solid for three quarters and fall apart when the team needed it the most,” Hensley wrote. “In the first three quarters, the Ravens had the sixth-best defense in the red zone (allowing touchdowns 48.4 percent of the time). In the fourth quarter, the Ravens had the fifth-worst defense inside the 20-yard line (66.7 percent).” [ESPN]
I was stunned when I read this . it didn't seem this bad I knew we tended to collapse in the fourth quarter but not this bad
Myth: Ozzie Newsome can't draft good receivers
Reality: Although Newsome has missed on some of the receivers he's drafted, so has every other GM in the league. Don't forget that the Lions drafted Roy Williams, Charles Rogers and Mike Williams in the first round before they hit on Calvin Johnson. Sheer volume helps your odds, but other teams also tend to give their young players more playing time and thus have developed their young talent.
I'm going to dispute this and provide proof. out of 20 wideouts drafted by ozzie in the history of the team. 1 has had over 1000 yards in one season and that was Torrey

Agreed, for the most part. Except for the statement '...that the run game was not in the need of repair." That statement is opinion. I ageed with that opinion when the scheme first got changed, but lately, I'm leaning towards the idea that if we master this we will have more success going into the future as a franchise. (Just an opinion - not fact) I still think this is one 'cool' thread. Myth or Fact?
its a refreshing change I learned something with the first myth and it is incredibly hard to leave opinion out ![]()
And this is not a fact. There are too many variables that 'could' have played a role in the run game collapse (Bad ZB audibles called on the line before the snap, bad play audibles and/or no QB audibles when we should have changed the play, better defensive reads, etc.).
Fact: the run game we had was not in need of repair . allot of opinions floating around about why the run game collapsed and your correct it could have been for allot of reasons. Castillo's technique and changes being one.
Do I need to repeat myself? Do you truly believe that the impact of Flacco's contract is fully mitigated by the contract's "cap friendliness?" Yes, the contract will be redone, if Flacco is satisfied with the terms. If not, then the Ravens will be forced to choose between cutting Flacco and dealing with significant cap constraints. We're in that situation right now with Ngata and Suggs; we don't want to cut them and we're also hesitant to offer them the type of extension that they would likely demand if they were to agree to a restructured contract. You don't get something for nothing.
I never said that Flacco's contract was "crippling" this team. But it's certainly a significant issue.
no but apparently I do cause its obvious you did not read the topic of this thread or what my post referred to . the myth on these boards is that flacco's contract is the reason we lost boldin and the reason we had a bad year because we can't pay for talent. as for your opinion I'm not interested this thread is debunking myth with fact. your opinion is not needed facts only
You are acting like they were looking to implement a system for the long run and not to even try to win this year. Thats probably the biggest myth we are going to see in this thread. They made lots of moves to win this year. Lots of short term signings and trades. Ate up virtually all the cap room. There was no plan to tank this year and fine tune things in the offseason. that's absurd. Castillo was brought in to tweak things with given set of personnel, not to create a system that would dictate ho would be the personnel going forward. Your logic makes sense if the system was broken, but not if the team just won a SuperBowl..
I don't think the coaches were trying to tank. when they made the decision to go to a zbs system zone stretch inside and outside . we had ko and just drafted Jensen who is perfect for that system . injuries derailed the changes. the zbs requires more athletic lineman , McKinnie was a bad fit. I don't think any coach imagined that one it would fail like it did or that we would miss the playoffs.
edit towards the end of the season it was starting to click in all fairness
That's why they didnt stick with it.
the did stick with it up to and including some plays on sunday .we did have power blocking mixed in. But we never stopped the stretch or inside zone blocking
Myth: A contract's impact on a team's ability to sign players is completely determined by the cap hits in the first year or two of the contract.
flacco's cap hit this past season was 6.8 million and next year it is 14.8 million. flacco's contract is not "crippling" this team . and before it does it will be redone.
If you have enough players on the line currently and more players down the road who can run it well, yes you do keep running it and get rid of the guys who can't do it, in the off season. It had to be installed sooner or later, lets get it over with now, and we did. Castillo was brought in to do a job the higher ups asked him to and he moved us toward that goal. If anything this is on Harbs for sticking with this all the way. Its his call, not Castillo's. It's not easy for Ravens fans to blame Harbs though is it?
He was brought in to make the changes, and the guys who brought him in knew the pros and cons. We didn't have the talent to make it work nor the talent to fall back on our normal power run. That isn't on one guy.
I think you just started a thread that will be up until the end of time.
No I blame harbs I said this before he knew at the beginning when they first decided to go in this direction that it could make for a bad season. on that much we agree . you and I discussed this before. did it need to be done that's debatable . and that's opinion. sticking with a scheme that does not suit the talent you have makes little sense .
Myth 2: Run game issues lie on Castillo
Personnel is why we sucked this year. Oher has never been good since his rookie year, Gino was unproven but apparently admired by the FO, and KO got injured. Even Yanda had struggles earlier in the year because of his rotator cuff.
Castillo's scheme worked with the Eagles and ZBS has worked wonders with the Texans. We've used the ZBS scheme in the past as well. Castillo, in fact, added wrinkles to help. The guy was such a good O-Line coach, the eagles thought he could coach defense.
Look at the PFF grades, you can't run the ball if three starters are in double negatives. Castillo was an undeserving scapegoat.
I disagree with this and there is allot of evidence to the contrary . we have used zone stretch plays in the past . Inside zone blocking is what the players failed to execute, Rice/Pierce up the middle loss of gain of 1 yard. the changes Juan made directly caused the run game and pass protection failures this year. this is not a myth
actually mod 3 I was one that perpetrated that myth too I thought it was allot more
Myth: Flacco's contract has crippled this team and is the reason we got rid of all the players last year and won't be able to retain players this year because of it .
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/joe-flacco/ pay attention to cap hit number ....I would copy the graphic but mobile is not letting me
I'm not suggesting as a player but he would rock on the coaching staff
well said .I'm not calling anyone out specifically. I'm just saying that a lot of people are suddenly acting like trading Q for a 6th round pick was some kind of bargain because he was "done" anyway. I don't think that was the case at all, I think it was a pretty fair trade for both sides - they got a receiver with terrific hands, ability to catch in traffic, and a great attitude, for a 6th round pick, and we cleared salary cap space that might help us resign some important free agents. But to sit here and say Q is going to be a bust for the 9ers and we fleeced them, I don't think that's true, and I don't think many people think that. What I see is a bunch of people who might be in kind of a shock given we traded a guy who was so huge in the playoffs for basically a shot in the dark 6th round pick, so they are trying to rationalize it to themselves by saying the front office knew he was done and the 49ers were tricked. I don't see it that way, I see it as, for whatever reason, the FO was going to cut Q rather than pay him, and when the opportunity came to turn it into a pick, that's what they did.
i think its more about ellerbe i doubt we see williams or kruger in purple unless they r a vikingi agree with you at first i thought u meant cruz . i just pray all this nonesense has nothing to do with clearing cap space for cary williams or kruger i will be livid.
lol hope is a fickle thing and i wouldn't bet on getting victor cruz either not ozzies style.here's hoping ozzie gets a good player and no more projects everyone knows he is good at developing players now its time to prove to the world he can pick a wr that is on the field making plays running routes day one of the new year no more ir players
well i am very optimistic cause i knew i would have lost it if i logged on and found bring TO ,randy moss, or "insert name of washed up wr in the blank" thread started .
heath evans is probably one of the happiest people on this planet cause he knows this lessens the ravens and anything that damages the ravens makes his day .Never thought I'd ask this but: what did Heath Evans say?
well looks like i has egg on my face . i would not have guessed in a million years that pft was a reliable source for football news
wow the rumor mongers are busy indeed. lol this is insane. if pft reported that the grass was green i would verify that first .
you are so rightCaldwell isn't getting hired that fast. You know how many black head coaches were hired this year 0. Andy Reid was out of work for all of 5 minutes. And Lovie Smith couldn't even land a DC job. Jim Caldwell certainly deserves another HC job, but don't think teams will be lining up to claim him
i actually tried to tell you thisi just wanted to say thanks i was bashing doss just yesterday in this thread and after reading this your right he can make plays . i guess sometimes it is hard to see the forest for the trees.
i hope that is coming this year . looking forward to the younger guys stepping up .Guys on the team call Omar Brown "Baby Ed Reed"... I would love to see competition between Omar and Christian.
i like and agree with allot of your ideas . i am anxious to see omar brown on the field more every time he's on the field he makes plays. well thought out and well put together . i also think mcclelland and bynes should be given more playing time i like what i have seen so far from them .i just saw a interview jacoby jones did on nfl network and he said "we have weapons no one even knows about" no clue if he meant offense or defense but my guess is offense so thats encouraging.Another option we could go with is keep Boldin, Leach and re-sign McKinnie (or a FA LT) and Pitta (maybe Dickson. I want to keep our whole offense together as much as possible. Let's build the defense up through the draft. Let's look at the needs of defense:
DE-NT-DE
DE:Art Jones, Pernell Mcphee
NT: NEED, Terrance Cody
DE: Haloti Ngata, Bryan Hall
I think we need an elite NT so we can raise the level of play with guys like Ngata and McPhee. If we have a force at NT, they will get better matchups and be able to excel in run defense AND pass rush.
OLB-ILB-ILB-OLB
Rush: Suggs, NEED
Will: Albert McClellan
Mike: Jameel McClain, NEED
Sam: Upshaw
Ideally we want to draft an ILB. But we have seen these guys play and it would take pressure off of signing Ellerbe to a lot of money. We could get an inside linebacker or OLB in the 2nd, and get depth in the 3rd.
CB-S-S-CB
CB: Lardarius Webb, Chykie Brown, Asa Jackson
FS: Christian Thompson, Omar Brown
SS: Bernard Pollard, NEED
CB: Corey Graham, Jimmy Smith
Yay, Webb will be back! We look pretty solid at Corner. MAYBE add another one in later rounds. Pollard is solid. Free safety is the biggest hole and we will see what we have with Omar and Christian.
While I am not saying this is going to be the best defense for us, it let's us have the cap space to put forward the best offense.
As many of you might now, I am a huge fan of defense. I love defense. But I think it would be best at this point, to put the money in the offense so they can stay consistent while we replace Ray, Reed, Ellerbe (in this option), Cary, Ma'ake and Kruger.
Again, I trust the front office, but this is something that could help us keep the guys we want (with exception of Ellerbe).
