Texan fan here again. How do you like him now?? I told you that Mallett would be a pleasant surprise for you. Wish we had him back for the playoffs (if we make it) Could you please trade us your draft choice so we can get a quarterback for next year!!
Sure. I think Ozzie is going to ride off into the sunset after this season, so he won't mind. What are you offering in exchange? How about your first pick, your third and JJ? Seems about right.
It looks like we are currently in the #8 slot for the draft. Great win, Ravens!!
Mallet needs to be signed. He's young and has a lot of talent. To come in and beat Steellers with our backs ups was truly amazing.
He is signed through next season, reportedly.
Ummm...the game isn't Sunday night.
It'd be nice to see what Mallett can do. Hope he plays some and the Ravens find a way to win the game.
I hope SSS gets healthy, enjoys his time off w/his family, then decides to come back for one more year. He is a special kind of player and brings a lot of fire and emotion to the team, which are big things this team lacks. Hurry up, Draft Day.
This might get ugly
Hope it's a good ugly. I say 19-14 Ravens. What the heck.
Had they lost to the Broncos, there might be some hope to be spoilers. Now, it is likely that, even if we pulled of the astronomically improbable upset, they'd still make it in.
It'd be a help if the Jets could knock of the Pats, too. It looks like that's also a 1 PM game. Hey....could happen. No shortage of motivation for the Jets in that game, either. That'd be a good day of football if the Ravens and Jets both won. Steeler fans may need those terrible towels to dry some tears if that happened. But, I agree, they will probably get in somehow.
i didn't say he wasn't athletic but he is not athletic enough to drop into coverage like an olb would have to.
W/all due respect to Sizzle.....have you seen him in "coverage"? 'Nuff said.
Id also like to know why Marlon brown hasn't been added to IR. they have lost a few good players to waivers due to that wasted roster spot. Makes no sense to me- hopefully they have a legitimate reason. Givens also has no place on this team next year. Draft another youngster to fill his spot, such as Boyd. You don't produce- you gotta go. And he's had ample enough opportunities.
Yeah, kind of like when they kept Jensen on the 53 man roster for a whole season when he never played one single down and wasn't even healthy enough to play one. Yeah.
Nice to know that Harbs thinks Smith will be a "dominate player in this league". Par for the course w/the writing on here. Maybe find a fifth grader to do some proofreading (?)
How many games has Flacco only put up 6 Points at home?
How many games/years has Flacco played here, w/all the experience w/the players compared to Clausen? Oh.....then there's the minor detail of salaries. Plain hard truth is that Clausen played just as good as a typical Flacco game. It may be tough to see the facts looking through your deep dark purple shades. As for me, I call it like I see it.
Ravens might as well put Walker and Z. Smith on the field. Every WR is abusing Smith and Webb. Put Webb at safety to see if he can perform there. If not, then they can have a clear decision to let him go.
They won't be letting Webb go. Not saying perhaps they shouldn't, it's just w/all the dead money potential w/him and quite a few others, he'll be back. Hopefully, he can play better at safety and/or slot/nickle.
They should start Clausen. After all, he did put up Flacco-like numbers against a very stout defense, w/very little time to prepare. 274 yards and an interception. No one seems to whine when Average Joe has a day like that.....against anybody. Start the man!!
Kevin......thank you, yet again, for a well written article.
I have faith in the players and coaches to vote a few Ravens in. They are the ones that really know who is deserving of a nod. It'll happen for probably a few Ravens.
I promise to never, ever second guess our FO again regarding player contracts. Period. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000603458/article/chiefs-sign-ol-jah-reid-to-threeyear-extension
Good luck, Tray! Here's your shot.
I've learned a lot, too. Don't let all your talent walk out the door.
I agree, but also some folks in the FO need to quit writing all the crazy contracts. It just leads to more and more dead money down the road and then, due to cap limits, they sit back and hold the door open for some good players to leave. It all starts there.
What do you need to do to get fired by thus organization? Pees has done everything wrong and us still here
He won't be w/the team next season and neither will Ozzie.
This is just "joe six-pack" blame game finger pointing. No understanding of the game or the management of the team.
I guess w/you being the expert here, you get what 4-12 means. Also, you must be too busy to actually watch the games.
Smith didn't restructure. He was extended 4 year $41mill/21gntd. Ozzie was outflanked by Drew Rosehaus who threatened with open market being that Smith was in a contract year and corner were expected to go at a premium. . Smith has 1 season of decent play. His first two teetered between getting burned and getting hurt. His fourth season he was hurt and before he was even cleared to practice Ozzie inked him without knowing what player would show this year. He's back to playing as he did when he arrived but it doesn't matter nobody is eating his contract and he's detrimental to the cap to cut. He 'll play lights out in 2016 or he'll be cut in late 2017 when his dead money is under $3mill.
Yeah, Ozzie has done a few ridiculous contracts, but none will ever come anywhere near the one he gave Pitta, knowing his health issues. Can you say dead money? I know, I know....he's Joe's best bud.
The simple answer is "No". If you are playing man coverage, your man is your responsibility. The reason a switch works in basketball is because you have limited space. Imagine a basketball court 200' long. Your Center switches to the PG on a pick - think he can keep up with him for 100'? Now, playing in zone coverage, you switch. That play is almost undefendable when playing man coverage. In the "good old days" that's a penalty. Now, it's one of those gray areas (kinda like what is a catch?). That play is more on the legit side and executed perfectly. As a WR, I don't have to get directly in the way of the other CB, I want his teammate (the guy guarding me) to get in his way. That's why almost every team uses that play along with that "bubble screen" that you hear Gruden lamenting over every week.
True, most teams do run that play rather well. Except the Ravens, of course. We can't seem to find a way to get a few yards to get a much needed first down to save our.....never mind. 4-12 pretty much says it.
Ozzie needs to retire, Pees will be let go after the season and Harbaugh will be joining his brother in the college ranks after next season.

That may be true, but it doesn't take into account the personnel each QB has/had around him. So, it's not a good argument.
