  1. I don't believe Tucker and the Ravens are trying to "work out a long term extension". He's going to be a free agent. It's tough to "work out an extension" w/a free agent, when their original contract is over. I suppose someone could consider a new contract before the old one actually expires as an "extension", but that essentially is still a new deal. Call it what you like, but giving Tucker a "long term extension" is not what we're talking about here. It's called a new deal. Maybe the author doesn't know the difference?

  2. Lets trade eugene monroe for a late round draft pick just to get rid of his contract and reign k.o as our tackle

First, we'd have to find a team willing to make that deal and pay him what he wants. Then, we just eat all the dead money, too, I guess(?) Top all that off w/what it will now take to sign KO as a new franchise LT. Your plan is not quite that simple to pull off, but who knows?

  3. To be honest, when the Ravens are not in the playoffs, I really don`t care who wins or loses.

That's pretty much how I feel. Although I do kind of like when new teams get to play big games. I get a bit tired of the same old teams (NE for example) being in the big games. I may be wrong, but I just have a feeling KC may go far. I'm kind of rooting for them. No particular reason, although I've always thought Reid was a good Head Coach. They also (I think) were 1-5 at one point earlier in the season and completely turned it around. I'll watch all the games and just keep looking forward to the Draft.

  4. Just stop backloading contracts and creating salary cap situations where guys are overpaid. Flacco is worth 20M if that is the going rate for a SB winning franchise QB, but 28.5M is just absurd. He was making far less than that the last 3 years under this contract and now we have to pay up and don't want to. Go ahead and extend him out, drop the cap number for the NOW, and backload the contract even more so were paying 30M a year for 35 year old QB. It all makes sense... NOT

I agree w/what you are saying. However, Joe is not being paid $28.5 mill this year. It's his cap number, which is a bit different. Either way, I agree w/your main point.

  5. Who is serious about getting back to work and who is not. After Achilles surgery SSS is out of his boot and is looking ahead to week 12 when he can start the physical rehab stuff. At the Pittsburgh game, Suggs is still wearing his boot. He came in last year fat and lazy and thought he could hurry up at the last minute and get back in shape and see what happened. Not making a statement here but just raising a point. Is Suggs still a leader in the eyes of the players and if not, is his playing ability alone worth paying him for what he does on the field? Has Suggs checked out on the team and if he comes back in fat and lazy next year, after an Achilles injury, when SSS is in good shape, after the same injury, a sign of that?

Suggs is way more interested in making movies than playing football. The Ravens will pay him next season no matter what. 'Nuff said.

  6. Joe sure sounds like the last thing on his mind is helping the team out with his salary cap hit. We know for sure that his agent has a history of bad blood with the organization. Negotiations are going to be tough to say the least.

Probably not. As usual, the team will severely overpay him yet again and it will be settled. He'll make "the going rate", as some prefer to call it, as he should. The fact that the team will suffer by having other players walk after each year to help offset his salary means nothing. This obviously happens on other teams and barring anything happening to bring down sports salaries to somewhat reasonable levels (define reasonable), it's the way it is. I know all the Flacco Worshippers will hate to hear it, but folks, he's just not that good. Never has been and never will be. He's just an......Average Joe. On a good day. And I have no doubt whatsoever that his best days, performance-wise, are behind him. But, the Ravens will pay him. Yet again.

  7. I like Tucker, also. However, paying that ridiculous salary for a kicker is crazy. I know, I know, people are going to neg like crazy. Too bad. The same people will be whining next year (count on it)as they watch, as always, some really good players waltz out the door because of "salary cap issues". This team has signed it's share of bad contracts through the years w/dead money ashes to show for it. Then we have to "settle" for over the hill rejects from other teams. Count on more of that, also. We can't sign them all, folks!!

  8. You need pretty much a roster of 53 starters with the way the injuries pile up each year. I think the idea of a "back up" not being immediately starter capable (except rookie work ups), is a thing of the past. With salary caps being what they are, it makes getting such a starting roster of 53 a financial work of art. GO RAVENS!

A roster of 53 starters, huh? Maybe you can give Oz and Co. your plan to sign and pay them. Nice thought, but......?

  9. That's not how it works. Players usually don't care if a deal is backloaded or frontloaded, as long as they get guaranteed money.  As far as I know, the most common way to backload a deal is to give a signing bonus and spread the cap hit out, so the player still gets his money upfront. It's the cap hit that's backloaded, not the actual payout to the player. The real issue with that is that you could be creating future cap issues by backloading too many deals.

Not true. Every contract is different. You make a few valid points, but you are incorrect in some of it. A cap hit is a cap hit, regardless of what season it is applied. You don't "backload" a cap hit. That would assure dead money galore forever. I get what you are trying to say, but your terminology is not accurate.

  10. Our pass defense leads the league in fewest yards allowed in the past 7 weeks. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Stats like that can be deceiving. What are those seven teams' rankings in pass offense? Did they have their run games working and just threw the ball less? Either way, it all boils down to the W/L. But, I imagine you were inferring an improvement in the overall play of the pass defense and you are probably right.

  11. KO needs to come back and we need to get rid of glass Monroe. I like Upshaw and we don't need to have him playing in coverage. He needs to stop the run and pressure the QB. He should not be that expansive to keep.

I pretty much agree, it's just that potential dead money w/Monroe that we'd have to deal with if we cut him. I'd love to see KO back at LT and see us keep Upshaw. True, coverage is not his specialty. Two good players that "play like a Raven".

  12. The offense was playing much better with Joe under center. The offense scored 20 against the Steelers, and was averaging more than 20 with Joe. In fact, the offense has failed to score more than 20 in all 5 games without Joe, and they are only averaging 12.6ppg without him. The defense has been much better recently, which is the main reason we beat the Steelers.

All practically meaningless points, considering neither QB played w/the same supporting cast. Plus, once a team, any team, fully realizes they are not going to the playoffs, the quality of play changes. Throw in the schedule differences as to what the quality of the opponent is from week to week and you are comparing apples to oranges to grapefruit.

  13. As much as I haven't been all that thrilled w/the job Harbs has done the last two seasons, I do not believe for a second that he should be replaced. There are plenty of directions to look when wondering how to get the Raven Ship moving in the right direction again. If, after next season, things are the same, that will change. Ozzie should retire and I hope he does. Not to assign blame on him either, it's just that I think it's time and we have a fine and well qualified replacement for him who has waited patiently for his chance.
