Play 1 - Ben gets pressured and moves up in the pocket and forces 1 to Brown missing an open man in the flat. This is good coverage by Amerson, I am not sure if Ben making a better throw changes this (on one hand if he saw Brown earlier, he could have thrown him open by throwing to the spot on the sideline, on the other, not sure if he would have made that throw or should have).
Play 2 - Amerson did get beat and recovered nicely here, but given the coverage, Stafford had to make a throw into a very tight window (can't tell but the throw looks to be behind rather than in front of the receiver. Don't think it matters much because the throw was dangerous either way given the other defender heads for the receiver). I kind of feel like the winner here is the the defensive scheme blanketing that route forcing the QB to make a perfect throw or bust.
Play 3 - Stafford gets basically a free rusher coming at him immediately which definitely affects the throw (ball is once again behind the receiver). If this were a deep route and the free rusher was picked up, Johnson has him beat for a long TD. A better throw and this is probably a reception rather than a drop. Notable that there was no specific help over the top.
Play 4 - Amerson has help over the top. Johnson wins the route (twice with the double move), but Stafford misses the throw.
Sometimes a corner's job and win rate depends on how well he can cover to force QBs to make difficult throws or to miss them to protect the ball. Can't knock Amerson for that because he succeeded (which is why I knocked the QB in Stafford for missing opportunity), but I look at those plays and think well if it were a different guy, the opening is there.
