My suggestion is simple. Teams can only spend a certain amount of cap space. This would make it much more akin to real life as teams with an abundance of cap space, never use all of it. Part of the problem with this game is that it promotes one year turn arounds. Because people are stuck with the same team for year after year, there is no penalty for overspending on marginal talent. How to limit the cap space would have to be worked out, but no team should have a significant spending advantage over any of the others. This is what I would do Take my team the Chiefs who after cuts have 11 million in cap space. In theory I could never compete with the Raiders for anyone because they have 60+ million in cap. However, if we did a luxury tax style penalty saying that the team could only use half or even 2/3 of its available cap space in excess of say 30 million. It creates a much more level playing field. In this case, the Raiders would still have an absurd 40 million to spend, but they wouldn't be able to overpay for every single FA
