I agree that signing big-name players to big $$ contracts is not the best way to go. We need 2-3 successful, deep drafts over the next few years to get back to that hi-caliber D and consistent O that we need to get into the playoffs. I think it will take at least 2 drafts to fill all the gaps and repair the turnovers we have now. But this next one is critical; hit it, and we're on our way back. Miss it, and we start to look like Cleveland or Jax.
6 . We might also want to consider coaching changes in some of the positional roles (WR, Secondary, etc)
1. We need a major upgrade in our secondary with CB & S; 2. We need more talent at WR to give more targets and spread the D; 3. Mallet is the obvious front-runner as backup to Joe; 4. Re-sign Tucker and KO; 5. This is a make or break draft for Ozzie.
Philly is a hot mess right now.
Still need another top-caliber WR. While you're at it, shop for some CB's & S's, and get another pass rusher in there.
Can't wait to see what coaching roster moves are going to be made on Jan 4th or shortly afterwards.
All I want for Christmas is a new secondary, and a new secondary coach to guide them.
Looking at the dead money chart above, I'm wondering if there's going to be a blood-letting of sorts after the draft & before June 1. Seems likely with the # of underachieving or frequently injured players listed.
This off-season, we best be drafting new CB's & Safeties in the top rounds. Looks like the Pearl Harbor Crew out there, getting shelled throughout the game. Along with that, I agree with others calling for new leadership in the secondary and WR coaching level. It's not like we don't have quality players' they're just not playing at the level they need to and should. That's a coaching issue.
We will end up picking 4th-5th, after the Browns, Titans, and Chargers, and maybe Cowgirls. This coming draft will either cement Ozzie's legacy or sink it. Nail it with a high position for next year, and we're back in business and life is good. Miss like a few years have been, and it's a long road back to respectability.
First the Jax blown penalty non-call, and now this. Refs 2 - Ravens 0. We should be 6-6, but we're 4-8. Thank you, Roger Goodell.
Wow, can anything else go horribly wrong with this season?
8 losses, 34 total pts difference. That's painful. But the upside is that we've not been blown out of any game, always coming down to the final series or play. With a good solid draft next summer, and the healthy return of all our starts (please SSS, come back!), I would like to think half of those L's would be a W instead.
I heard that after Schaub retires from football, he's going to open up a beer store, and call it...wait for it...you know.
I don't think this will be a major negative on his future - he's not a runner like RG3, and he's experienced at his position, so he's got a benchmark to shoot for. Assuming Joe's contract negotiations go well and #'s get adjusted accordingly, we could see this upcoming draft as a pivotal one for the next few years. If we have a good draft at a high ranking each round, we could shore up poor areas and develop a solid nucleus for the next few seasons - maybe even a return to playoffs within the year. We'll have more cap space, better players to choose from, and a chance to both be young and good. Make the most of this sucky season and get good quickly.
So now we add QB to a list of must haves for this next draft, along with WR, CB, and S. That should handle our first 4 rounds, although I'd hold QB for later and get more of the other 3.
If our first 5 draft rounds are anything other than WR, CB, and/or S, then we're in for another long season. Those are easily our weakest areas. No more band-aids on broken arms, please.
Doesn't seem too difficult. Assume Perriman is a bust. Assume SSS is done. Rebuild from the ground up with a combo of GOOD(!) drafts along with a FA or 2. It's not like the freezer's full of food now as it is. So if either of the first two don't turn out bad (Perriman actually plays, SSS comes back for a season), you now have depth where you only had crumbs before. This will definitely be Ozzie's legacy - either he gets it right and we're back in business, or he whiffs again, and he's easily one of the first firings after another dismal season.
Curse you, Pete Morrelli.
Might as well; everything else has gone wrong this season. Let's just hope with a full off-season of recovery, he'll be at 100% when we break camp. But it does beg the question as to whether or not this will affect him negatively into the future, and if this is what any injuries with him is going to be like.
Yet another single-digit, last-minute, D-can't-hold-a-lead loss. This is getting old and painful. We better get some seriously good drafts picks out of this mess of a season. We need it.
Luv Pitta, but he's done. Don't wreck the next 2 decades over a risky chance. Let's pull in the $$, and invest in the young guns emerging now. Maybe Pitta can stay on as a coach and work with them.
I'm sure he'll come up with an algorithm to figure it all out by the Jags game.
Let's order up some Hot Pees every Sunday for lunch, if that's what it takes to motivate these guys.

Can't see them pulling a WR in the 1st. Either CB or elite pass rusher would be my first picks. Get a shut down D up front & in secondary. How many games did we lose because the D couldn't hold a 4th Qtr lead?
