look hardbaugh, I am not the biggest joe flacco fan around. I think he is horrendously overpaid and will always be inconsistent but he is a bit better then some of the names you have put out there.
Flacco is probably between 14th to 17th best QB out there but he can make plays. We have to build a team for him and not build the team around him. He isnt a tom brady who can make anyone look good. He needs talent to bail him out! hopefuly we can do that for him this season.
I'm in agreement with your post.
I'm not saying either are better but a veteran arm needs to be brought in and the Ravens need to keep an eye open for a developmental prospect in the draft incase Flacco soils himself again this season.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Ravens draft Zach Martin he can play all along the line.
Since Weeden brushed the Ravens off I'd love to see the staff look at Fitzpatrick or Campbell if the dollars make sense..
To me this is a sign we go wideout rd one or two. If we had signed a younger guy like nicks we would wait.
3 yrs of smith. Rookie wr 3rd year. Ideal fit for a transition.
I think if a play making /centerfielder type safety falls to them in round one he's the pick.
Much needed since someone said Boldin wasn't worth 6 million.
I like the signing, the hands, the intensity. Ozzie and the staff has had a great offseason so far. Kudos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd have to see the details before forming an opinion , hopefully the Ravens didn't overpay.
Hired the guy I wanted to see get the job. After the dust settled, I love how methodical the organization was during the process.. The media had me all upset.
Exciting times ahead. Go Ravens!!
I think John is the best version of what a Greg Schiano type of coach can be. They have a certain player type (aka'd the Schiano men, those personality-free dolts who work really really hard but have a relative lack of natural ability), they're control freaks, and they ultimately have comparatively low football IQs. Jim's a toddler, but at least he understands the game and scheming around his player's strengths. I respect him for that.
Plus 1,000,000 !!!!!!!!!!!!! As good a post I've seen on here.
Hostler, Harbaugh and Castillo as the offensive minds.....I cringe at the possibility, we thought last season was bad.
If the new OC can stop Joe from holding on to the ball so long and throwing 3 yd passes to the flat when we need 10 for the first down..then im all for it.
However...2 OCs so far havent gotten Joe to stop that stuff. So I dont think a third will.
Yeah Joe has too many WTH was he thinking moments for a veteran. I still hold out hope that the new OC will help the quarterback reach his ceiling, wherever that is.
Hostler being a finalist is laughable.
Interview with David Elfin on the NOrris and Davis show
"
Steve asked David for his thoughts on Shanahan possibly coming here and how it would work. David said it would really be up to Joe Flacco, while Shanahan can produce a very good running game he has also rubbed quarterbacks the wrong way. In Washington Shanahan’s “prickly personality” was a problem between he and McNabb which saw Donovan leave town, and the 2nd time Kyle was run out of town for not working well with RG3.
Ed asked about the possibility of a rift among the coaching staff in Baltimore and whether or not bringing Shanahan in would cause even more problems for the Ravens. David said that there was a rift in DC but it was mainly because Kyle’s father was the head coach and other coaches thought he might be getting preferential treatment.
David talked about Shanahan’s system and how he runs a West Coast type of offense and how that may be a problem between Flacco and Kyle. The west coast offense needs a very accurate QB which is something Joe has struggled big time with in his career and David said that will drive Kyle absolutely crazy. David noted that inaccuracy was the big problem between Kyle and Donovan McNabb."
Thanks for the info didn't hear that.
I felt the best offensive hope/fit would be Turner then Kubiak but the HC has his vision. Not to say I agree with it.
Anquan Boldin called said he's basically a WR in a TE body.
He's better than Dennis Pitta yet he isn't worth an extra 2 million that the franchise pissed away on cut players. Now they are talking about throwing serious coin at an injured TE or franchising him.
Oh yeah, Joe and Denny are BFF's... I get it.
In the front office I don't trust.
Mike Preston is a credible source now? Just today he claimed that Flacco needed to be more like Manning and do a better job at drawing defenses offsides. He forgot to mention the part where the Ravens lead the league in neutral zone infractions committed by opponents. And that's just one example from TODAY.
Boomshakalaka
Absolutely!! It's current not old stuff from 2010 and 2012 or shills on the Ravens payroll .
And how do you know he doesn't work with his receivers outside the facility?
From a Mike Preston article in the sunpaper...
With Castillo in the mix this season there appeared to be too many coaches impacting decisions. The Ravens also need to light a little fire under both Flacco and Rice. Flacco needs to work with the receivers more during the offseason instead of just waiting for occasional minicamps, and Rice needs to spend more time conditioning.
It doesn't matter who the OC is if the quarterback that the franchise made the highest paid player in football doesn't want to work outside the facility.
It's pathetic that the organization has to try and lite a fire under his behind be releasing this news to the media. It's no wonder he and the receivers can't get on the same page.
It doesn't matter who the OC is. The results will be near the same or worse.
Cam understood the limitations and worked within that formula.
I am wondering: Did Flacco's salary put even a bigger squeeze on signing vets like Boldin?
This year no, future seasons most definately.
On another note why should a proven vet who does it all like Boldin take a hit when the quarterback just got overpaid? As much as I hate the fact that Boldin is no longer here I'm glad he didn't buckle to the Ravens front office. Why should he , when the quarterback didn't?
The front office threw Boldin out like he was trash.... They showed the man no respect asking him to take a pay cut after that dominant performance in the playoffs. Ozzie and staff have made some great moves in the past but lets not pretend he hasn't made some bad ones to go along with it. Treating Boldin in the manner which they did was pathetic. I suppose more shoes will drop soon.
The ridiculousness of your statement is incredible. How do you not understand that Flacco's cap hit is lower than it was last year and Boldin was still on the team last year? Please explain how Flacco's LOWER cap hit impacted Boldin's final contract year.
It wasn't about this seasons cap hit from flacco. The payday Flacco gets in future seasons make the Ravens choices very limited. I understand why extending Boldin wasn't an option because the money just won't be there.
Flacco is overcompensated by atleast 2 to 3 million AAV, that contract will come back to haunt the Ravens and the first domino to fall because of it was Boldin. They had the money to keep him this season but they could not add any years to the contract which may have bridged the gap.
What a piss poor move by the front office.... Flacco got what he wanted being the highest paid player in the league in AAV so now he's going to have to deal with the consequences of seeking that payday...
Maybe just maybe if Flacco was willing to sacrifice a little for the team others would have followed suit. Flacco said the usual buzz words, like it wasn't about the money but respect so how can anyone expect any other players on the roster to not seek the highest payday.
Welcome to the new Ravens... I have zero interest in watching the Super Bowl video .
I hope Boldin gets a few rings with the Niners. If he chooses to leave after this season the 49ers will parlay that 6 round pick into a better pick .
This guy has given his all for the Ravens. Very few on this board were able to understand the domino effect of the Flacco contract.....and we aren't even in year four yet... Boldin's biggest games are when the Ravens need him most hopefully something can be worked out to keep him in this uniform but if they have to part ways look no further than number 5's insistance that he be the highest paid quarterback in the league , yet states " it was never about the money."
I'd be happy to see Boldin sign a three year extension but a pay cut tells me he may not be in the plans after next season.
