That doesn't mean they were good investments,

This we can most definitely agree on. It won't change until the cord gets cut. I wish I could say different, the Ravens may be able to hide the many deficiencies in Joe's game but with the coin he insisted on making via his representative it only undermines his ability to win and compete. The Ravens only have so much cap to go around to give him weapons and protection. Joe is his own worse enemy.

Mike Wallace & SSS were 'any type of weapon' I'm sure.    Ask Aaron Rodgers or Brady if having Gronk/Nelson gave them any excuse to play poorly.

Plus 1 million... The seasons may change but the incessant excuses never stop from some.

I am also one of those battling off the trolls on these forums. These are probably the same people who thought Flacco was the best quarterback in the league after his super bowl run. Fans sway so fast it is rediculous. Fact is there hasn't been continuity in years on the offense. Why do people think Flacco went off when he did? Possibly because he was playing in the same offense for 5 seasons, had Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones, and AnQuan Boldin for a few years, the same running back for a few years who was productive, and the offensive line had a solid run.

None of our positions on offense is even close to on par with that super bowl run. And that is really unfortunate for Flacco. People keep comparing Flacco to players like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Ben Roethlisberger and it is very unfair. None of those guys have a new offensive coordinator every season, new offensive system put in place, and nearly as many targets rotating around him.

Like Steve Smith said Flacco has had to do a lot of thinking because one word in one offense means something else in the other 10 he has been in. Give him a simple system next year Marty and hopefully it is somewhat effective that they can build off of it for the next 2 or 3 years.

Also start spending money on the offense!

The past two seasons minimum the Ravens invested more money in offense than defense but don't let facts get in the way of a story.

Now suddenly we are comparing Flacco to Brady? I don't care how old Brady is, its unfair to compare him with Joe in any way.

True. Brady has reinvented himself and has been a player than the offense has revolved around from the beginning. To go along with talent Brady has competitive fire and looks to be the type that will try anything to not only win but improve his game. I don't get that same impression from Flacco.  Flacco doesn't even have a pro bowl on his resume yet.

    On another note-----

The guy is a mediocre quarterback that can succeed if the right pieces are around him. Most quarterbacks fit that profile. Flacco is a game manager and to the people that believe some team is going to give up multiple first rounders for this guy....LMAO.  That ship sailed after the Super Bowl offseason, the curtain has been pulled and Joe has been exposed for what some thought he was. The front office doubling down on that dumb contract instead of cutting the cord at the earliest opportunity is down right stupid.

Game managers don't win Superbowl MVP........but go on. You're right, the front office made a mistake and should have let Flacco walk after a SB season? Are you nuts? You know how far it would have set us back? Do you even realize how few Qb's even play well in the playoffs?

Flacco deserves criticism, but to call him a game manager? Seriously? Did you call him that when we went to the SB? Or when we were close to knocking out the Pats with Kubiak?

Flacco has lost trusted targets and an O-line which included Matt Birk....

Flacco is a game manager, his body of work has proven that to be, not one game or four.

Any player in the league (no matter the sport) is capable of a hot streak but the big picture is what needs to be viewed.

The Raven front office went all in on Flacco and then compounded the mistake by doubling down on it. Flacco has regressed since the Super Bowl winning season, yeah he had a good year under Kubes but even I predicted he'd have his best season under him, that's an outlier not his norm.

Until proven wrong I'll say the Ravens front office is vastly overrated. IMO Ray and Ed are gone and now they have been exposed,

    where's the stars (including Flacco)

Why overpay for injured and/or overrated (including Flacco)

Ed and Ray were saavy enough to understand the offense was going to turn the game over to the defense on most Sundays and it was up to them to come up with a play for the "W".

Joe is very flappable, that is the biggest crock about Joe Flacco. Guy sees a few free blitzes and starts hearing footsteps and looks like he wants to go hide in a closet.

Guess I should take your comment with a grain of salt though since I always forget Joe should be in like 5 Super Bowls if not for his teammates. Sound theory.

To the tenth power, great post!!!  Speaking of Blitzes , this guy just can't beat a single blitzer much less a jailbreak. Game planning for Joe must be the easiest week of the season for D coordinators. The guy is as easy to read as a one word book.

  7. I definitely believe bringing Zorn back is a great idea. I was hoping he'd come back at offensive coordinator but it looks like Harbaugh has went all in with his current staff.

I'm a big fan of Harbaugh's coaching  but it's hard to make due with what he's currently been given. I don't believe he'll be around much longer but who knows?  No way to tell from the outside looking in but I do wonder how much sway he's been given in player selection because since the Super Bowl "W"  it does look like the Ravens have backslid in drafting. (IMO)

Im pretty sure Mike Wallace and SSS is better than Gabriel & Sanu.  With Julio missing half a season Ryan led Falcons to a bye-season.

Tom Brady has Edelman and another random receiver that pads stats every game.    Don't tell me Edelman is a premier receiver.  He drops at least +5 balls a game but Brady still moves the chain.

If you play great, you can move the chain and score points.

If you told me with SSS & Mike Wallace that a QB will go 11TD in 11 games to start the season that is no good.   Whatever way you want to spin it.

The Ravens had good weapons in the passing and running game. The problem is the game plan. To have success with Flacco the Ravens have got to be a run heavy team with a dose of play action and deep tosses sprinkled in, combined with a great defense that should get them back to the playoffs.

Whether the Ravens had the drafting skill (which I believe is vastly overrated) and money to make it happen is what I'm concerned about. If the high picks are spent on offense other than big game breaking running back expect more of the same because Flacco is what some thought he was and not what the majority here spent almost a decade spinning he was.

  9. Flacco is a game manager. The two seasons he's been counted on to do more than game managing has been an unmitigated disaster at the quarterback position.

IMO they were this past season and the last season with Caldwell. The problem is Flacco's payday says he can bring to the table more than what he does.

The main problems with his game is he doesn't see the whole field as well as other quarterbacks do (that can't be fixed), he's constantly late with his throws because he doesn't process what he sees quickly enough (that can't be fixed) and he lacks situational (can't be fixed) and pocket awareness (can't be fixed).

Those are issues with his game I've always complained about but nine years in those and others still ail his game. Going forward it looks like Flacco has lost something off his fastball and that could mean big issues for him because touch and accuracy has never been his forte.

The injury issue is just an excuse. The front office made a huge mistake paying this guy and then compounded the mistake by extending him. The Ravens will do nothing until the contract is off the books. Coaching isn't the problem, Flacco and his bloated contract is.

  10. The Ravens are 29-29 with Joe Flacco as a starter since he signed for the big money. I hate to say I told you so..... I'd rather be stating the masses were correct.  I complained when they gave him that money that he's average, a game manager and to be frank I believe he has some ascending to do to get back to game manager.

The guy has tons of work to do on his game to get average .

I hope the Ravens swallow the pill and draft his successor this draft or next at the latest at the very least it will light a fire . Joe needs to compete for his job just like every other player on the team. Hopefully we see a real competition, sooner the better.

  11. Boy, 100 plus million just don't buy you much these days.....

Flacco IMO had two really good games this season which was Miami and Pitts and possibly the opener. The rest was a bunch of fair to mediocre with a lot of bad mixed in.

How I wish for the days when the folks said he was a winner when I'd complain about his game.  2 to 3 seasons can't come fast enough.

The Ravens must draft his successor if a talented QB falls to their slot, the money they have invested in this guy he should be delivering more both on and off the field. The Ravens won't make the playoffs until he is gone.

I agree with you to an extent, but its not the coaches who make bad plays.

    This right here.

A few weeks ago Flacco and Morningweigh had words when Flacco publicly called him/his game plan out.

Now he's coaching bad because he gave the player what he wanted.  Obvious not the best call but a coach has to trust his player not to make a stupid decision.

It's obvious Flacco made a premeditated decision to throw the ball to that spot no matter what he saw.

Years ago I stated more than a few times here, Cam Cameron understood Flacco was limited and coached within that.

  13. I'm surprised I don't see more complaints against Flacco. Yeah , it was a bad call by Morningweigh but he has to have faith that his quarterback doesn't make a rookie mistake and lock on to a receiver which lets the backer jump the route or at the very least protect the ball.  This leads me to Flacco continually demonstrates the same  mistakes.

For years I've seen him do stupid things like on 3rd down slide short of the yards sticks, or the time he stupidly scrambled out the clock at the half against Cincy while in chip shot field goal range or even taking dumb sacks on third down making the field goal tougher. Keep in mind he took a stupid sack on the drive before the  interception drive to take us out of field goal range. This guy is low football IQ .

As always blame everyone but the real source.

Can't believe this bum is wasting SSS's final season

I guess Ray Lewis was right.. Joe has no drive nor passion

Joe has plenty of passion when his payday is on the line. Now he looks content to be mediocre. Hopefully he's thinking about what he can do better next year when he's sitting alone on the bench after a three and out.

    Just being honest though.......

    The lethargic hurry up offense.

All the checkdowns year and year out (to keep his completion percentage up). The inability to hit these sometimes wide open.

     The lack of pocket awareness.

The throws of the back foot.

    The constant Jump balls.

    The over and under throws.

Locking on to his buddy Pitta (Not going through his progressions).

This is why you hear from us every year. We are tired of waiting, Harbaugh and Flacco should both be playing for their jobs at this point.

Flacco needs to be cut or traded.  His best, at that number, is not nearly good enough.

Just to be clear, i dont care if we win out and make the playoffs.  I still want them both gone.

I disagree about Harbaugh being gone unless he's the reason the Ravens signed Flacco after the Super Bowl win.

The rest is 100% spot on. Flacco doesn't outwork the great quarterbacks in this game and it's evident.

He seems to be a great family man and I respect that but when you become the highest paid (or one of) player in football and the face of the franchise you owe the organization more than showing up to camps, OTAs and games.

I've been saying since the Super Bowl that the Ravens should have floated him out there to gauge worth or even let the hapless Browns sign him and garner the plethora of picks.

Fast forward to today and the Ravens have a losing record since the Super Bowl win....Look for more of that until this guy is cut of traded.

  16. Typical Flacco game. As much as I dislike Brady, I wish Flacco had a slim amount of his competitiveness and work ethic.  Mr backfoot does not sell out for his teammates, consistently throwing off his back foot instead of driving off it like he is playing scared. He's thrown off it so much it's now a habit and he does it when no rush is there and he's been doing it since the opening game.

Seems like every year the same people come into every Flacco thread defending him.

To all of those people i say this, we really respect your loyalty to our players.

With that said; show some loyalty to the team.

Our Qb is not very good,(for his contract) what do you propose we do? His contract will ruin this team. Because his play doesn't match.

    No stats/ Just facts!!!!!!

Well we have to witness poor play for three more seasons. Looking at his contract it looks like 2019 or 2020 will be Flaccos last year here. I wonder how many more coordinator and other jobs he'll leave in his wake. The guy is mediocre and not worth what he's getting which hurts the rest of the team. When his cap number was more in line to what he brings to the table the Ravens could go deep in the playoffs.  Not Anymore!  I love the Ravens but have to say the amount of excuses (even from professionals on this site and elsewhere) for Flacco is quite amusing.

No team records.  Give me facts on flacco personal stats he accomplished compare to other 'highest paid' QBs did.

If you talk about playoff records, then i guess torrey smith is much more succesful in 'playoff winning records' as julio jones.  Which is ridiculous.

Give me personal accomplishment and their stats. Not team records/wins/stats/accomplishments

You are making too much sense.
