That doesn't mean we shouldn't draft the best players and stack our defense. Flacco can't consistently win without a dominant defense or a stacked offense. Better to have one than none right?
It's how the draft fell, our defense better be great, I'm excited for it no doubt.
I know I always complain about lack of weapons for our QB on here, I understand how the draft played out in regards to offensive playmakers available when we were drafting, I'm ok with picking the best available defensive player based on us not willing to trade up for an offensive star.
This defense needs to be elite, if we can build something similar to what enabled Denver to win the super bowl a few seasons ago we will do well. I'll come back and eat crow (on Reddit I guess? ;( ) if this defense pans out. But, so far (caveat), we have spent the majority of FA and now the draft on the defensive side when we saw severe flaws in our WR depth and O line play, our defense was the better unit last year overall albeit it contributed to losses by breaking down at the worst of times as it has so often without Lewis and Reed. All I can say is it better be great.

Dean Pees did good with our Defense last season #7 but bad play calling bad routes and Joe throwing lame ducks get our Defense over used and when they have one bad play we loose the game! Raiders jets and giant games I blame Joe and the play calling! Yup! Wanna be elite put the games away period point blank!
Put away the games, like scoring to go ahead in the last miniutes only to see the defense give up a late game winning drive leaving no time for a rebuttal drive? Like the Raiders game, like the Giants game, like the Steelers game, like the Redskin game, etc
Joe needs to play better and he will with an improved line and run game, he got better as the season went on which was encouraging. Camp doesn't stay healthy and has barely played, as it stands there is no possession WR on this team, I guess Pitta

I'm hoping AJ Green gets fed up and decides he wants to play for Harbaugh lol

I complain a lot about it since I watch both teams every week, but it makes me sick to see the plethora of weapons they surround Dalton with compared to what Joe is given. Until recently he even had dominant lines too, that may be their weak point but you never know what can happen year to year, it's looking like Dalton will be spoiled again while Joe will get blamed for WR and run game incompetence.
Could you imagine the media outcry if we drafted Mixon, my god.
How good are Mixon and Ross going to be, it's so infuriating that that team always gets offensive playmakers when they have down years. I wish some other team sacrificed their fake morals before the Bengals did so the guy wasn't in our division.

That's really funny. This still sucks that the boards are closing
1 hour ago, JD08 said:Lmaooo how many Superbowls they got.....oh, all that talent in Atlanta and they couldn't even protect a 25 pt lead in the bowl...Cincinnati hasn't won a playoff game since Marvin Lewis left us to become their coach
Honestly they run the ball 3x after Jones insane catch and they win, total coaching incompetence.
And for the record I'm not sounding off about building an elite defense, I'm countering the claim that we really tried to build around our QB, the level of effort our FO put towards that initiative is not even close to many other teams.
2 minutes ago, balfan23 said:I don't think this approach is obsolete - though, I know a lot of teams seem to feel it is.
But here's the thing ... if we take that approach, here's something that Joe and the rest of the offense need to understand. When you play defense first, rule #1 NO TURNOVERS! Especially not ones where you force the ball into coverage when you are already in position to score. Rule #2, you can't have holding penalties or take sacks that take you out of FG range. That's something we've done a lot of lately, it would seem.
I'm in general a Joe supporter, but that's the one major sticking point I have with his play of late. I'm not worried so much about how many yards he has or what his completion rate is ... it is the number of bad decisions - almost rookie like mistakes - that result in turnovers that take points off the board. I know this turns him into the dreaded "game manager", but I don't care what people call it or how it reflects on him. If it results in winning, that's all that matters.
For rule #2 thankfully our pro bowl center is gone lol

If not for total coaching incompetence Atlanta would have. The Bengals are competitive with an awful QB because they surround him with endless talent, Dallas was pretty good last year.
Still makes me sick the Patriots were handed two Super Bowls based on incompetent coaching from their opposition.
If we can have an elite defense I won't complain, but I mean elite, not give up the game winning play after a late minute comeback.
When did we try to build around Joe? Look to Atlanta and Cincinnati to see how you build around a QB. This is BS

Dalton needs all the help he can get
3 hours ago, whobilly said:You forgot to mention the TD Pass that was DROPPED by Lee Evans in the first AFC Title Game against the Pats when we likely would have gone on to beat the Giants. FYI, that was Flacco who carried the Ravens through the Playoffs and to a Super Bowl VICTORY.
Yea for real, but let's all just forget the offensive playmakers Ben, Brady and Ryan have been surrounded by, pretty stupid to blame one player when shortcomings can easily be explained by contrasting the surrounding cast to these other QBs.
If the defensive picks pan out to a top 3 unit then I'm fine, but it's very annoying to see more weapons added to Dalton's arsenal while their fans complain he has no weapons, then when his weapons start producing for him all the analysts will rank dalton ahead of Flacco. Tired of this joke
6 hours ago, jdynamite said:I can't believe all 3 WRs (Davis, Williams and Ross ) went in the top 10.
After Davis and Williams went my mind went to defense lol.
Same. I knew the Chargers would get Williams

The Ravens receiving core was trash last season. Dropped passes, inconsistent route running, and they constantly demonstrated their inability to make plays for their QB and then to get...wait for it...."SEPARATION" from their defenders.
PLAYMAKERS PLEASE!!!!!
I'm hoping this is a draft tactic to discourage WR needy/wanting teams from trading ahead of us
Wow, that's awesome. Finally some love from Skip.
2 hours ago, Ravens4Real said:To get away from the "average" moniker that has surrounded this team, for the past couple years is for Flacco to simply play better during the regular season.
And for that to happen we need consistent blocking, better YPA on runs, better WR separation and less drops overall , and not constant turnover with OC and philosophy.

The answer starts at the top with wholesale changes. If you coach the same, you get the same results on the field.
Shutting down the team's official message boards?
That awkward moment for Aiken when he slowly begins to realize his role may be biggest on the team he chastised for limiting his role the previous year.
Id take him but he is not the answer, id also take Boldin but he is not the answer either. Mike Williams is the answer IMO

Why are you so intent on picking up one of the top RBs in free agency. I would also get prepared to be disappointed when draft time comes around and we don't take a RB in the first 3 rounds. Cook and Fourtunette will most likely be gone when we get on the clock in the first.
Which I'm ok with, as long as we get Mike Williams, a big-bodied WR that can make Boldin like catches for Flacco, just what he needs.
Of course we still have the whole O-line situation, pass rush situation, Orr situation and CB situation.....
One things for sure, draft day will be exciting.
Mike Williams would be amazing.
On 3/12/2017 at 7:48 PM, Virginia 55 said:CMON Dixon are you kidding me? I still think he can be the best back in that draft class.
You have to do better than this though bruh.
At least if you're wrong there won't be a select subset of this forum's population that trolls him heavily after every mistake he makes in a game blaming every loss on him. Then again, this forum won't be around anyway and I'll miss arguing about Flacco with you Virginia.
For the record I'm pretty pumped about Dixon as well and think he could be special, i'm hoping, I'll try to spin this particular violation as a positive and say it keeps his legs fresher for longer / gives someone else on the roster a chance to step up.

Also signing Jefferson and Carr were two great moves in solidifying our secondary.
So we have some solid starters on D- Line and Secondary, and we can add depth players via draft. The question marks are ILB and OLB spots vacated by Zach Orr and Elvis Dumervil. We will draft for both of those spots, the question is in which rounds. Also depends on Correa and Judon and their readiness to be a full time starter.
On the Offense, assuming Woodhead will compensate for loss of Jusczyk, and John Urschel takes over Center spot vacated by Zutah, we certainly need a solid starter replacement for Wagner at RT.
That is the biggest glaring hole at this time. Gotta be addressed, preferably by signing FA or draft. As for some folks(and pundits) wishing for drafting shiny WR in 1st round, I say we have Wallace & Perriman as WR1 & WR2,. And we can put Campanaro in the slot. Yes, we need to draft WR , but does it have to be in 1st round? We drafted LT Stanley last year, and Perriman year before that. Will Ozzie go Offense in 1st round again this year?
Yes, Mike Williams. Enough neglecting Flacco, don't worry though, he'll be long gone , probably another weapon for poor Dalton and we'll draft some DT or LB.

I'm worried about Mixon, Ross and Billings on the Bengals, they are once again loaded on offense. I hope their O line continues to struggle
