Drugs Eisenberg, we are no better off. Weddle is an A-plus addition who can clean up some mess, but a safety can't cover AJ Green or Antonio Brown. Nor can our ILBs cover LeVeon Bell or Giovanni Bernard. Pass rush can't help those guys. It's going to be another long season for the defense.

We were the #1 passing defense the last 8 games of the season calm down. That was without Suggs and Weddle. Now we have those guys and all our draft picks.

Go back and watch the games. Those teams tried to run the ball 35 times, inexplicably (including the Steelers who ran the ball on the first 10 plays). Mark my word, whenever a team had to or needed to throw the ball, they just dropped back and got it. 10, 15, 20 yards a pop. We were hopeless against those teams and more of the same will come this year. We can't cover, no undoing that now.

  2. I keep reading on this board that we didn't draft any "day one" starters. Guess what folks, based on how our team is currently constructed and what we wanted in the draft that would have been a hard thing to do.

First of all, Ronnie Stanley is a day one starter somewhere on the O-line. Maybe at LT over Monroe if he gets cut, or maybe at LG if Monroe is able to suit up. Alex Lewis looks like he can back up at RT and possibly swing guard. Ricky Wagner didn't look like himself last year because he was playing through a foot injury. If he's not ready to go we need somebody to take his spot.

Secondly, any edge rusher they would have drafted would not start over Suggs or Dumervil unless those guys are just incapable of playing football anymore. That being said I think we'll see plenty of Correa if he's any good subbing in for Suggs and Dumervil to give them breathers.

Bronson Kaufusi COULD start. We lost Chris Canty and as far as I am seeing from what is left on the roster, nobody has stepped up and claimed his spot on the line. You know Brandon Williams is starting at NT, Lawrence Guy played well enough last season for me to say that he's got a job to lose. Somebody has to take it from him, and then on the other end you have Timmy Jernigan, Carl Davis, Brent Urban, Bronson Kaufusi, and I guess even Willie Henry. That job is probably Jernigan's to lose. So at both ends there could be a position battle brewing.

Tavon Young has a shot to earn the starting slot corner role. That may not technically be a starting position but given how many times we go nickel defense it will be significant playing time. If Chris Moore can prove he's not a one trick pony and can actually beat coverage downfield, he will play...a lot. He's our insurance plan on Perriman if he's not healthy and Mike Wallace if he's not the guy we think he still could be.

So some of these guys might not be starters day one of the 2016 season, but the idea is that a good number of them will be starters within the next couple of seasons. That's how you draft.

I think Stanley's a day-one starter, my beef is that he was not an elite player and passing up on Tunsil (yes I know we had to but it sucks) and not making a move for Ramsey is going to be regrettable. Everyone else looks like a project.....guys who won't be producing for another 2 years.

  3. I read a lot of noise about Arthur Brown being the starter next to Mosley. I don't think that's what is gonna happen. He was LAST on the depth chart behind Zach Orr and Albert McClellan last season and I don't see the Ravens changing that this year unless he just has a miracle breakthrough. They brought in a couple of UDFA's for MLB and I think they got a serious chance of beating out Brown for his roster spot if they show they can play. I think the ILB job is Orr's to lose.

I don't know why Brown is even on the roster. No real playing time in 5 years. Reminds me of Jah Reid, he never plays but is somehow always listed as our "primary" backup.

We'll be fine in the secondary as things stand barring major injuries of course. It couldn't hurt to add a seasoned vet with no injury concerns after TC cuts take place and I think we very well might.

I'm not sure how we will be fine in the secondary. We only have one proven corner on the roster in Jimmy Smith, and It is not like he is a Revis. Wright had one good year and Davis played well before he got injured which was like two games. Put it like this, unless our d line puts up a ton of sacks I think our secondary will be the same old secondary. Weddle should make things better, but this is a make shift secondary that still needs major work.

No doubt, the best Ravens secondaries have been led by a pass rush that could keep the qb moving. Anytime any secondary has to cover more than 3 to 4 seconds, you are asking alot. Our pass rush gave qb's 6,7 and even more seconds to pass which even Revis would have a tough time doing for a whole game. The key to a great secondary is a great pass rush. I very specifically remember the playoff game against New England where Suggs and Lewis had Tom Brady running all over the field and he ended up throwing a bunch of interceptions including one to Carey Williams to end the game. It may have been the 2012 game. Anyway, as great as Brady was, he can't throw from his back. This last super bowl, when Cam had destroyed the league, the Broncos pressure kept him moving and took him out of his game. That secondary looked spectacular, but it was the front line pressure that made them look so good.

Yep. Football is more a game of balance than many people realize.

Too little pass rush and the secondary has to cover for days on end each play. Too little coverage and the front gets gassed from chasing and not able to get home to the QB.

Ineffective rushing and opponents start teeing off on your QB. Ineffective passing and opponents load the box.

When they are in balance they compliment each other and mask the deficiencies. Opponents see less obvious weaknesses. It's what makes team sports exciting and why super stars by themselves mean little compared to a well oiled machine that is the team.

Our secondary is so bad, it was Mississippi-one and the receivers were wide open. No pass rush could help that. Not getting any better this year.

We've had 3 consecutive years of secondaries that have gotten shredded, years by the way in which, on aggregate, we have a losing record. In those years we've had no serious 2nd starting calibre CB and have stuck an undersized coverted safety with 2 torn acls as our 2nd corner in Webby.

I wouldn't consider this "nailing everything so far."

We haven't drafted this high in over a decade and what's the first inkling? Draft a LT and trade back twice to stockpile mediocre players.

Mediocre players? Lmao! You obviously know nothing about these studs we just added to our team. If you did, you would not say such foolish things

Would it help if I told you that, in the last 5 years, only 5 total players drafted in the 4th and 5th round (COMBINED) have even made a single pro bowl? Five. That's less than a 1% chance of getting anyone in those rounds that's anything but........mediocre. Ozzie can boast, we can wish, but the odds are that this draft might fail due to our conservative picks in rounds 1 & 2.......two rounds you need to come away with elite players.

  6. In the last 5 years, there have been over 170 players taken in the fourth round. Only THREE have ever made the pro bowl (none since the 2012 draft - Devonte Freeman). So I have no idea what Ravens are bragging about. You win this game with elite top round talent, not a bunch of 4th and 5th round picks. I can't believe we didn't use those picks to trade up in the top rounds. We are so in need of an infusion of talent at the skill positions and didn't get it here. Ruined my whole summer.

I do think this team has lost a ton of its swagger and pretty soon there will be none left. In a couple years SSS, Suggs, Weddle and Dumervil will all be gone, with Yanda not far behind. Those guys that brought that swagger, confidence and meanness will be gone and there are no young players to take their spots.

Our defense, in particular, has pretty much lost all of its swagger and identity. We don't have any defenders who strike fear into opponents. Long gone are the days of Lewis, Reed, Ngata, Suggs, Boulware, Scott, Thomas and Pollard. Even on offense we don't have guys like Jamal Lewis, Boldin and Rice anymore.

Also, there's a big difference between players who get in trouble and ones who play with swagger. When I'm talking about swagger I'm not talking about Alex Lewis, who btw is a late 4th round pick, in a draft class of 11 players.

I really don't want choirboys or trouble makers, I want studs who will go ball out on the field. I think that's why some people are mad, because we missed golden opportunities to address that. We passed on guys like Ramsey, Jack, Spence and even Tunsil, players who would bring that swagger not to mention excellent play, for Stanley, Correa and Kaufusi, safe, high character picks.

Ramsey was gone, Jack would bring swagger to the training room, Spence brings swagger to the rehab clinic and Tunsil brings swagger to the party while his friend jumps out the window....

Watch the game tape (not just highlights) - Stanley > Tunsil, Correa > Spence.

I don't care about swagger, I care about play on the field and winning.

This might be the post of the year...

We'll see. Same thing was said about Warren Sapp and Randy Moss (both first ballot hall of famers) as they were bypassed for clean players like Mike Mamula and Greg Ellis. You can't substitute for pure talent no matter how "try hard" the player is. But forget about Tunsil and Spence, we had a real shot at Ramsey and Jack........both greater talents, "clean" players and real need positions.
