  1. The offense will have to wait until next year, at least one side of the ball might have gotten fixed here. It would not have mattered if the Ravens took a WR in the later rounds.............that's not going to fix the offense. We need an entire draft to set this thing straight........hopefully 2018.
  2. I think that's cutting it very short. He had one bad season (mediocre actually) in six years. He was an all-pro type player. He was still only 28 and no one is washed up that quickly (that wasn't dealing with a half dozen serious injuries). Let's call it what it is............the league mandated that they turn their backs on him forever.
  3. Let's draft only guys from Harvard and Yale. Yeah, that lasted a whole one full season. I think people realize their jobs are at stake now.
  4. The blame for the past few years is simple........bad drafts, bad contracts. Since 2010 we lost most of our all-pro players to age. During that time we've had very poor drafts and we've also given out some very bad high dollar contracts that tied up tons of money (Monroe, J Smith, Webb, Ngata, Flacco). So all it's gonna take are some good drafts in general (offense or defense) and to cut loose some of these salaries (we've already begun that process).
  5. you know if harbs don't make the playoffs there is no next year for him right I'm happy with our picks except Chris Wormley Ive seen him play a lot and he lacks production and takes plays off so IMO this was a reach I don't think Harbaugh feels such a pressure - even if he was fired from Baltimore, he'd have a new HC gig in a day. Even with his rather pedestrian last 3 seasons, his overall track record is still rather impressive. I would not bet on John getting a head job in the NFL. He'll have to go back to college. John done nothing since Ed and Ray left but fire coaches and Kubiak proved the players were not the problem. The failed draft picks also signed part of John's fate. I don't see John going anywhere. The wheels would have to completely come off. Joe on the other hand is going to get beat up in more ways than one. Right or wrong. You do realize that your inability to be objective puts a lot of your comments in the irrational zone. You are so eager to hate everything the Ravens coaches and FO do, that you are unable to realistically view them the way that the rest of the league does. And of course there are guys on the other side of the objectivity spectrum too. They are the "purple koolaid" guys, but because you are sooo far on the other side of the spectrum, you label the people who make rational and objective comments as homers. Some of the things you say are just not based in any type of reality. Rex Ryan got a head coaching job right after the Jets let him go. And his time with the Jets was far less impressive than Johns. Andy Reed is in the same boat. John has made it to the playoffs a higher percentage of the time than Reed did in Philly. He has won a Superbowl, and has won the same amount of playoff games in 9 years, than Reed did in 14 years with the Eagles. And there are countless other examples of coaches having far less success than John, that have become a head coach for another team the season after they have gotten fired from another team. It is completely fair to talk about moving on from Jim and other guys in the FO if we dont have a good season. It is completely relevant and rational discussion to have. But to think that their wont be any teams that will be in line for JHs services as a head coach just isn't based in reality. But on top of that you are saying that he will have to go back down to the college level to get a job and thats crazy. And on top of that when you wrote this we were only 3 rounds into the draft with more than 3 months till the first game starts and you think we should throw in the towel already because Joe is going to get "beat up" because we didnt draft an OL in the first 3 rounds. You are wrong in this case the vast majority of the time because of your bias. And than every so often you say something really interesting and insightful that makes a lot of sense only to fall off the rails again. My beef with Harbaugh would center around the coordinators, not players. I'll always reference the Cam Cameron situation as an example of John being way WAY too loyal and stubborn to coord's that suck. Right now we can do a lot better than Morningwig and Pees, but he won't make a move until they fall flat on their faces and the backlash from the fans grows to a revolt.
  6. It's going to take several drafts to fix this team. I'm ok with using this year on defense......it would have to be done at some point. Next year hopefully they'll draft mostly offense. It's going to take a lot more than a pick or two to fix that offense. It is absolutely void of blue chip talent (other than Yanda, who's a freakin guard).
  7. To be quite honest, with Mohrningweg retained, I see no reason to really expect anything from the O. With Steve Smith, Juszczyk, Wagner and Aiken gone, I cannot see a stronger Ravens offensive roster for 2017, even if Ben Watson is healthy and we get either (or both of) Boldin or Mangold, and I haven't the slightest trust in Mohrninweg's alleged offensive system - therefore I see no reason to hope for a better O... and selecting no offensive weapon early in the draft hasn't really made a difference. Just look at the change this team had when Cam was fired. People just don't realize or believe that an offensive/def coordinator is just as important as the people playing on the field. I really don't like either one.........we had Pagano and Kubiak and got screwed out of both. We've been dumpster diving ever since.
  8. I think you'd be crazy to believe you can fix this team in one draft, so I'm ok with them picking all defense, considering it will probably take an entire draft to fix the offense (not just a couple late, 4th round picks). So fix the damn defense this year, offense next year and add to the defense the following.
  9. I hate both of our coordinators and don't think we're ever going to see our full potential until these are addressed.......
  10. At $25m a year, Flacco needs to do more, period (see other $20+ QBs such as Brady & Rodgers).
  11. I see more and more teams who are already loaded on offense, continue to take even more offensive players in the 1st round. Defense almost doesn't even matter anymore.
  12. I still say Ozzie puts way too much stock in these 4th/5th rounders. If you're guy is sitting there in the 1st round and you only have to give up a 4th or 5th to get him, then do it. We could have had Ramsey last year and he wouldn't part with the pick to get him. We ended up with the 3rd best lineman in the draft despite having the #6 overall pick.
  13. I'm clearly one of the negative ones about the pick. I've done a ton of studying, here's my opinion. We like him because, and he is fast and physical. He has good measurables, and looked good at the underwear olympics. And he went to Bama...yahoo? I'm bummed because, not only did we leave all pros on the board for this guy, but this corner class is insane. IMO, and a lot of others, there will be better corners coming off the board well more than a full round later. All that, but MORE importantly his play He doesn't have very good instincts or ball skills, which is a big bummer if you're a corner, especially the number 16 pick, in this class, esp playing at Bama and on that D as long as he did. But more importantly he gets torched down the field. He panics and doesn't play the ball or wr well when the ball is in the air. And this is the way I feel about that, and a lot of analyst agree. That's kind of an either you have it or you don't sort of thing. Goes along with instincts, it's not really something you can teach. I sincerely hope he can fix it, and I'm wrong about the pick overall, but that is a bad trait to take up against Brady and Ben. I also think corners like Awuzie, Tabor, King, Wilson, and others will easily be better than him. And they're still on the board. We could've gone for Sidney, cuz we're all set this year with 3 starters. Nothing to do about it now. We are all hoping I'm wrong. Friday is HUGE. And yeah, listening to Harbaugh talk about our players and team is Really old at this point. He just says what everyone wants to hear to say the least. I'm hoping to wait til January to hear him talk this Season There's nothing more frustrating than a guy who can blanket a receiver but has the ball sail past his earlobe and into the chest of the guy he's covering. Usually an instinctive thing and can't be taught. I'll have to see him play in August.
  14. That's funny I live in Cleveland Ohio rite next door and the Ravens are the only team the squeelers respect! They have more respect for Ozzie and Co. than some of these so called Ravens fans! Like I said before if the Ravens make a run for the Super Bowl they gotta face the squeelers or pats and they both carve up secondaries so why not beef up the secondary like Ozzie and Co.are doing and did! "This is chess it ain't checkers" so sit back and let them do their jobs! Have you watched any tape on him, and I'm not referring to the highlight good stuff. Every analyst and fan can see that he gets beat deep. The stats even back it up. Big games, everything. Even on the best D in college, with an absurd front 7. Please tell me how a College starter that gave up 18 yards a catch as a starter, on that D, in college I repeat, is going to help vs Ben and Brady? Especially if he plays this year? He would've been an interesting option at 47 maybe. We've been playing checkers in the draft for a while. There's a reason we've been falling off, for a while now You'll be surprised at how good NFL coaching can change a player for the better. I never saw a lick of him playing, but it looks like he has all the physical tools (speed, height), so here's the big factor.....can you tell me if he can make plays on the ball in the air?
  15. Those "safe" picks were complete whiffs. It's set us back, there's no getting around it. It's all started at Elam and things haven't gotten any better in years Actually it started with Ray Rice and Perriman. Now we can no longer draft any talented player ever again who isn't a holy roller. And the Perriman thing ruined us from ever taking another player with any kind of ding or potential injury. I always look at the upside ceiling and think, if you could snag an all-pro with that pick, it's still worth the risk.....rather than "settling" for a guy who's nice and less chance of missing games.
  16. I applaud that the Ravens finally wised up and took a CB high in the draft. I see a lot negative posts about the guy here and don't know a thing about him yet. I will say we have to wait until his first game (not mini-camp or training camp where Harbaugh will gush about his practice being the next Deion Sanders). You will know almost immediately in those first couple games if he can really cover or not. Watch him on another team's #1 WR and we'll know what we have then.
  17. That's a pretty gratuitous over-simplification of a team. The first 3 rounds make or break your draft because of the resources that go into those picks, but "95% of your best players" don't come from those rounds. The Ravens roster is built like all the others, 80% of starters are rounds 3-5 guys. If you take a guy in the 1st or 2nd and he's not a starter you're setting yourself up to fail as the guaranteed contract on those guys will haunt you. Ozzie, like a lot of GMs, are far more comfortable taking 5 or 6 shots in rounds 3-5 than take 1 shot in rd 1. And 98% of them pan out to be nothing. At best, you got Jarret Johnson or Bart Scott. Those guys don't win you championships. Ogden, Lewis, Reed, Suggs, Sharper, McAlister, RRice, Flacco, Heap..........those are the guys who bring home the trophies. Ozzie needs to get over his stupid comp picks and hoarding of junk round picks (4th-7th) and get back to successful top picks. He was the best for 24 years. Since 2010, he's been awful. Your logic is flawed. Basically giving up all of our picks from the 4th through 7th round would mean that we would have to look at UDFAs for depth. Is that really what you want? Youre a guy who continually talks about how bad our depth is in season. And you are probably thinking that we could snap up some veterans cuts to fill back up voids but its also an issue of price. Its much more expensive to bring in a bunch of veterans rather than using draftees. You are also assuming that moving up means you will get a better player. Which is just not true. And why would the FO trade up if the guy that they want is going to be there when its their turn. Really there is nothing about what you have said that is rational. Do you really think that you have invented a draft strategy that increases a teams chances of winning a Superbowl and that there haven't been any GMs or coaches in the history of the NFL that have come up with this key to success?? If so I think you may be overestimating your cognitive abilities when it comes to football. If GMs had thought of it why has it never been implemented? If it was a good strategy why do a total of ZERO teams in the NFL use it? How do you explain the following quote.... "The list of teams that have received the most compensatory picks since 1994 is pretty similar to the list of the best teams in football since 1994: The Ravens have received the most compensatory picks, and they’ve won two Super Bowls. The Packers have received the second-most, and they’ve also won two Super Bowls. The Patriots are fourth, and they’ve won five Super Bowls. The 10 teams that have had the most compensatory picks have won most of the Super Bowls since 1994, with a total of 14 titles for those 10 teams." http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/02/24/compensatory-picks-are-a-reward-for-smart-teams/ Ok, list me all Ravens comp picks for the last 30 years. And don't blame me for laughing out loud when you put together your "top 10" list from these players.

(maybe our definition of "good" varies greatly). You might as well flip a coin when you get to those rounds. Seriously. Go look at the last decade of 4th-7th rounds. You'll be astounded by how many names you don't even recognize.

You have no idea what you're talking about. 98% of them don't 'not pan out' just like 95% of 1-3rd rounders make up your team which is another ridiculous claim you made. You realize you have to be bad to draft the guys you named? Ogden-4th overall, Mcallister-10th overall, Ngata-12th overall, Suggs-10th overall, Heap-31st overall(a 1st rd TE might as well be a top 10 pick at CB or DE value wise), Flacco-16th overall. The Ravens have been drafting in the mid-late 20s for the better part of the past 15 years. When we do have top half picks recently Ozzie has nailed those as well (Stanley at 6 and Mosley at 16). Getting HoFers like Lewis and Reed in the 20s is an extreme outlier and for you to assume we should just not draft the bad players and take all the good ones shows you know very little about scouting and development. Buddy I've done the work, you haven't. Go find me all 4th and 5th rounders (in the ENTIRE draft) for the past 6 years. Then find me how many of those players made even a single pro bowl. It's very, very, very low. About 2%. That sucks. You're not finding great players in those rounds, so you better hope and pray we can in the first 3 rounds. This is not just the Ravens, this is everyone. That's all I'm saying.
  20. That's a pretty gratuitous over-simplification of a team. 21. Simple: the first 3 rounds make or break your draft. 95% of your best players are had in those rounds. For some reason, Ozzie is now in love with his multiple 4th and 5th rounders that turn out to be neat kick returners or special teams contributors. 1-3 is now reserved for "safe players" who are academic scholars and go to church 5 times a week.
  22. Again, if you think the Ravens are set at WR then you haven't watched much of the competition. We are sorely lacking playmakers, we're talking about blue chip receivers that can take over a game..............not a bunch of 4th/5th rounders who's primary jobs are running back punts and covering kickoffs.
  23. We have a terrible habit of focusing on all the "good" in our players and completely ignoring the competition. We have no playmakers. At all. Period. Think Mike Wallace is "good enough"? Take a look at A Brown, Beckham, Bryant, Marshall and J Nelson. Chris Moore is a future star? Let me introduce you to Julio Jones. When guys like Mike Wallace are our #3 receiver, then you'll know we're back at the top.
  24. This isn't the 90s anymore lol teams have ample tape on those late round gems now, which boosts their stock into the early rounds. For an elite line you must have at least 3/5 blue chip lineman with two average to above average complimentary lineman--e.g., the Cowboys, who had the elite guys like Smith, Martin and Frederick, but also had good complimentary guys like Leary and Free. And for the record, the Cowboys team that invested ZERO first round picks in it's OL like could crap on this team that spent three picks on the same thing.

You're right, this isn't the 90s anymore. And that makes your view even worse. In the 1990s teams ran the ball.........alot. You needed a top notch OL and a damn good fullback. Now they throw it 60 times a game and don't even bother to pretend to run the ball. Tell me again........which of the past 10 super bowl winners has invested multiple first round picks in their OL? Yeah, I thought so.
