Both these guys were crucial in their respective seasons. If Devin Hester is better than what we have then do it. Of course the issue is most likely someone with talent who belongs on an NFL roster will need to be cut. I'd hate to have Ozzie's job right now.
I think the problem is that Punters have gotten a lot better in recent years as teams have started focusing more on specialized training for them- even Jacoby Jones had most of his returning success on kickoffs. I don't think we are hurting for kick returners very much since we have guys like Moore, Dixon, and Wallace who have shown to be adept at it. Punt Returns are much different and require a different skillset to an extent than Kick Returns since punts are a lot harder to catch than kicks and the returner has a lot less time to build speed and won't see the other team coming as easily. Camp and Reynolds seem to have been the preferred options and aside from whatever happened on his one play last night where he fumbled twice (apologies, I didn't catch the game), Camp was assumed to be the punt returner since he was the only one who seemed to be consistently fielding punts. Reynolds did as well as anybody could have expected, but still wasn't ready. Unless Camp struggled in practice with fielding punts (which from what I've heard and seen posted on here isn't the case), I personally don't see the need to bring in Hester.
Edit: it's also worth noting that Hester wasn't returning punts last year for the Falcons- Eric Weems was

If Hester can show he is at 75% of where he was at in his prime during his tryout they may pull the trigger. I miss starting on our own 35 yard line or even farther after every return. Now we struggle to make it to the 20.
It's definitely a move that Ozzie would do, but I do think that starting position has been more a result of a questionable defense than a ST problem in recent years though.
I'd still be happier not signing Hester. I think even if the team moves on from Camp, I'd rather have Moore, Wallace or somebody else taking over PR duties, even if they didn't have as much experience. I just don't see Hester being worth a spot when there's a lot of young guys worth keeping around instead.

I guess Beyer or Carter could somehow make it but I just don't know man. Brown has been out there a lot on ST this year.
Really? Price isn't eligible? I'll admit I haven't paid as much attention this year to our signings, but I thought Price was an UDFA? And my thoughts on Allen are he could make it, but I just don't know. Yeah, he could go to someone else's practice squad but I don't know if he'll go to someone's active roster. I don't think he's shown enough. West isn't the best example for me because he had more interest in the draft than Allen did. Also, it's a risk but it depends on the health and recovery of Dixon. The 3rd or 4th RB will be inactive on gameday anyway, so it wouldn't make much difference with our depth for gameday
I think McClellan and Correa are going to be viewed as the MLB backups- even if they have been playing more on the outside than inside thus far.
Edit: Looks like Levine is going to have his share of MLB snaps too this year.
I'd be surprised if he didn't make it onto the practice squad, He didn't show much this offseason, but a year of hard work and taking time to master technique could make a huge difference.
Bosa can't be traded now. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/08/09/window-closes-on-potential-trade-of-joey-bosa-in-2016/
Then I guess you hope he gets cut and the Ravens end up with him. Would be interesting to see a 1st rounder get cut then. Would go down as biggest draft bust in NFL history.
I think we'd have to draft him next year if we wanted a shot at him. I don't think he can be released to go through waivers or anything like that since he hasn't signed.
I know the said that roster flexibility is an issue but ... at this point... Hester is more reliable then Camp and Camp will not break the top 45WR behind SSS, Wallace, Perriman, Aiken and CMoore- I know that Camp is younger but for what we are going to ask him to do.... IDK... Hester may be a bigger weapon and for sure a more reliable weapon!
I'd rather have a healthy Camp. I thought he's looked really good when he's been healthy- definitely better than Hester at WR.

Definitely Agree. I was just thinking that Hurst had the advantage because he's been at both tackle and guard and the coaching staff seems to like keeping him around.
I'm thinking it shakes out like:
QB: Flacco, Mallett (Cut: Johnson, Johnson)
HB: Forsett, Allen, West, Dixon (PUP: Taliaferro; Cut: Houston)
FB: Juice
WR: Aiken, Smith, Perriman, Wallace, Moore, Camp (Cut: Butler, Collins, Jacobs, Matthews, Reynolds-PS, White)
TE: Watson, Gillmore, Williams, Pitta (SUS: Waller, Boyle; Cut: Brown)
OT: Stanley, Wagner, Lewis (Cut: Clausell, Nembot-PS, Wesley-PS)
OG: Yanda, Urschel, Hurst (Cut: Ducasse, Fabiano, Broxton)
C: Zuttah, Jensen (Cut: Skura-PS)
DL: Williams, Jernigan, Guy, Urban, Davis, Henry (Cut: KLM, Coley, Pierce-PS; IR: Kaufusi)
OLB: Suggs, Dumervil, Smith, McClellan, Judon (Cut: Beyer-PS, Carter; Ochi-PS, Ojemudia)
MLB: Mosley, Orr, Correa, Levine (Cut: Brown, Conner, Onwuasor-PS)
CB: Smith, Wright, Powers, Young, Price, Davis (Cut: Arrington, Byndom, Canady-PS, Wilson)
S: Weddle, Webb, Lewis, Brooks (IR: Elam)
SPEC: Tucker, Koch, Cox (Cut: Lutz)
Don't think I missed anybody
Edit: Looks like I had 54. So I'm thinking Butler or Price is out- Butler on this.
13 minutes ago, Ravensfan23 said:a ways to go how exactly? He only had two opportunities and made good decisions on both that I recall. The first punt they kicked short and away from him. He did his job by not getting overzealous trying to make a play that wasn't there. Just alerted his teammates it was short and got away. Then on the 2nd opportunity he made another good judgement by calling a fair catch on a Punt that looked like he might have room to make something happen but he made the smart decision. He just got blasted and wasn't able to make the catch.
As a WR there definitely were moments he seemed lost. Mainly locating blocking assignments and one time he didn't have his head on a swivel while running a shallow cross. I don't think there was anything to get excited about with Reynolds right now, but he didn't do anything to that was too negative. I'm sure things will pop up on tape.
I don't think he did anything during the game specifically, just going off of practice reports from camp so far. I hope we get to see some more from him in the next couple games to get a better look.
Edit: Also a little concerned for the guy that he might not have seen the field had Perriman or Moore been playing.
Have to think Camp is our returner if he stays healthy. Clay wasn't impressive and Keenan Reynolds seems like he has a ways to go, hope he gets on the practice squad.
Most excited to see the young defensive players. Mainly Za'Darius, KC, Tavon Young, Judon/Ochi, etc.
I was hoping to see Alex Lewis step up at LG. Nothing against Urschel or Jensen, but I like Lewis's upside. I could also see him taking over for Wagner at RT if Wagner leaves next offseason.
We'll be fine at WR. Smith, Aiken, Wallace, Moore, Matthews, Reynolds, Camp, Butler, Clay and Brown aren't a bad group to pick from. There are not any available WRs that would make a significant difference if we add them. Plus I'd rather develop a young guy than drag a Boldin, White, or Colston through the season.
21 minutes ago, riseNConquer81 said:He asked for guys who made an impact, not just a list of guys who ever played a game.
you cant make an impact if youre not on the field, so anybody you have to write (injury) next to is disqualified.
As for most of the rest of these guys:
Urban, Urschel, Wagner, and Jensen dont make an impact by mere virtue of being on the field.
Our o line was trash last season. If those guys made an impact, it was a negative one. Urban only played 6 games and barely recorded a stat.
Pernell McPhee did not play for us last year.
Neither did Tyrod Taylor. And in the days Tyrod Taylor did play for us, he didnt make any impact. he only played one real game for us. He threw for 149 yards, 0 TDs and a pick. His Total QBR was 62, passer rating 60.
Urban played great on ST. Wagner struggled last year but still made an impact. Urschel started at 2 positions on the OL and played well. Jensen even had a rough start but closed out the season really well.
These are the guys setting us up for the next decade? A LT when were paying 7M for the one we have already... and a bunch of special teamers. We use our 1st pick on a guy not rated in the top 15 players in most polls as an insurance policy and then trade away from all the impact players in the 2nd. I was so hyped for this draft now more than likely not a single one of these guys will be starting opening day. I knew those last few meaningless wins were going to cost us. If I see or hear the word "value" one more time I'm going to lose it. Name me 1 Raven selected in the 4th round or later in the last 5 years that made an impact last season.
Zadarius Smith, Buck Allen, Nick Boyle, Urban, Campanaro (before injury), Urschel, Taliaferro (before injury), Juszczyk, Ricky Wagner, Ryan Jensen, (Pernell McPhee, Tyrod Taylor count as last 5 years too)
Not a fan of the Chris Moore pick, I'd be surprised if he makes the team.
Zack Sanchez, Harlan Miller, and Deiondre Hall are 3 of my favorite corners in this class. I'm not too worried about reaching on a corner yet.

3 QBs might be a possibility now I guess.
