I know some of you will discredit this statement, but in Madden, my team (Ravens) were struggling in pass protection as well as not being stout against the run. So like a surgeon, I dissected my defensive secondary, only keeping the ones who really played with heart. And I spent an entire offseason upgrading my secondary. First I snagged a top notch SS, who had just been released by the team which drafted him. He was only 2 years into his career so it was a must for me to grab him at that young age, knowing he would have many years of production ahead of him. Before that I traded away some of our high price players that I felt were not worth the money. I traded them for a few 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks. One player I traded away for both a 3rd & 4th round pick. Then during the draft, I drafted CB's and Safeties all throughout rounds 1-4. My secondary was so good the following season that my defense went from one of the worst pass defenses to being the #1. I know that some people will discredit this because it's only a game, but to me it is a simulation of real life strategies on how to build up a successful team. The following season I drafted a few offensive linemen, all over the height of 6''4 and the rest DE's to make sure I made my defense stout against the run. DE's i drafted who had good speed and acceleration, were immediately converted into OLB's. Now my OLB's shed blocks like pro's and stuff RB's on most running plays unless someone misses a tackle.
We need to draft an elite safety as well. How long do they think Webb will last back there. No offense to Webb, he's a great player, and honestly the best tackler we have on our defense. But we really need a game-changing SS/FS for years to come.
I watched that AFC locker room video speech from Ray Lewis. Ray Lewis is just a true once in a lifetime character. Similar to Maximus off the movie Gladiator, played by Russell Crowe.
I didn't watch because I thought this would be another two-hand touch game. I guess I should've known that, with Ray coaching, there would be some hitting and some fire in the game.
It was actually a pretty good game. Players were amped up, but at the same time they knew it was for fun, and did not tackle players as violently as during the regular/post season. That was good to see. It showed ethics.
Could those uniforms be any uglier!
Yeah, they could have had steelers colors on them!
How does the NFL select "Mr. Consistent" for AFC kicker and "Mr. Inconsistent" for Center? Zuttah was the worst linemen by far for the Ravens on a line that was average. He had costly penalties, inconsistent blocking, and the biggest liability for Flacco. In addition, the accuracy on his snaps was too consistent for an NFL starter. He is going to cost the team $4.6 million in 2017, but if cut would save us $2.4M in space to use (in part) to can find a better option. I think nearly all Ravens fans want him gone, but now with his Pro Bowl selection you know Ozzie & Co. will be less likely to part ways with him. Best option is to trade him, but I doubt there'd be any interest.
I kind of agree with you. Over the season I did notice things with Zuttah that were disappointing, like being injured a lot. He seems like a very good guy, but I'd rather us protect Flacco and our running game by any means necessary, even if it means having an entirely mean offensive line.
Ray Lewis belongs here. Either as DC,HC, or GM
How many times do we have to draft a Linebacker and a pass rusher? How many times do we have to watch ozzie miss on guys year after year and then have to go into the next draft with the same needs as the year prior because ozzie keeps missing? Its really pathetic to watch.
Totally agree. The players he doesn't miss on we tend to groom up and watch walk away for big paydays. Be nice to keep some of that talent (looking at you Brandon Williams). Be nice for Oz to nail this draft and bring in the depth we need to improve.
I'm probably one of the few guys that believe Brandon Williams is overrated. He is good, but as a lead DT he is not suitable. I'd like to see us go after an elite DT like when we drafted Ngata. That would make our line much more successful. FA cost too much, and it's hampering us.
We need O-linemen, we have good running backs and a QB, Dallas recipe made the offense look superstar-ish.
Elliot is still an highly exceptional running back
Damn, I thought he retired at his own will for personal reasons. Finding out he has a rare neck condition is saddening, but he will still be successful in life as long as he keeps his head up and stays with god. Probably even being a coach for us.
We do need a CLEAR franchise RB. We could have kept Rice..but that's another topic. The problem though, is our staff focusing the emphasis on Flacco, and not the entire team. They somehow think that Flacco is Brady material or something, and that if we simply put in WR's that have speed, then we will score TD's like hotcakes at Denny's. That does not work. If anything the team with the most successful offense has possession, clutch receivers. Not a bunch of receivers that have good 40 yard dash numbers.
That brings me to my next point, should we draft a QB with potential to lead this team? When they paid Flacco all that money, was it center this teams success around the talent of Flacco? Or was it just to compensate him for what we believed he could do for us. I only ask that because, say for instance we draft a QB, who given the opportunity shows better instinct than Flacco. Would our staff bench Flacco, or would they start him simply because he is taking up so much cap space. If the ultimate goal is for this team to be successful, then it should not matter that the person who is making the most money is the one on the field.
The main focus should be having the players on the field that put us in the best position to win, or who makes the most plays. Long story short, lets draft a backup QB, who has potential. I was just watching a tape about Brady back at Michigan and it made me think. Think how this team can get lucky and find a QB between the 4th and 6th round. A QB that can turn this franchise completely around. That may be more important right now than having us fans go through this torturous phase of waiting for Flacco to break out. He's very slow, and more energetic and competitive QB, along with a bigger more electrifying RB could be all this team needs to really be successful for years to come.
As long as Webb stays. Webb is probably the best tackler we have on the defense right now.
I'd rather see us go for a game changing Gronkowski type of TE.
Stop focusing on whether a player is a veteran or not!! And just build up a stout team! my god. This is the problem, every offseason for the past 3 years it's been "Ravens want to add veteran WR", "Ravens want to add veteran WR". We have a veteran QB for christ sake, let him operate with a bunch of hungry young WR's that want to make a name for themselves. Honestly I think we need a game changing Gronkowski type of TE.
It's sad that they couldn't come to an agreement on a stadium there. Either way I still think the Chargers should have relocated to Mexico. The NFL seems to want to expand there anyway.
If NFL teams think they are going to up & move to Mexico and take away USA jobs then they will have to pay a 35% tax fee
well in a few years when both los angeles teams are not drawing the fans because the fans in la could care less about football than hopefully that will be the end of goodells obsession to have football in that city.
The NFL doesn't really care about fans in seats - ticket sales are about 15-20% of the revenue. Having a TV deal in the biggest US TV market, now that's another story. Why do you think the Jags are moving to London? You think it's to sell tickets? It's because London would become the biggest TV market in the NFL.
But nobody watches the jaguars.
It a shame the Chargers couldn't say there. Now LA has 2 NFL teams and 2 Basketball teams that is underly unfair. I like San Deigo as a city, looks pretty cool especially La Jolla and Del Mar in San Deigo County as l been looking at the videos. If l ever moved to Southern California, l like San Deigo but still will always be a Ravens fan of course. 😊
San Diego is beautiful. Warm weather with highways that wind through lush mountains with penthouses on them. The coastline is also incredible. Only downside is things are so expensive, and you are right by the border. I haven't been there in the longest, but last time I stayed with friends they had to pay extra to have their trash picked up. The city is still amazing I definitely say go for it.
Will this organization ever make an effort to retain any of our good coaches. How do they expect the players to play consistent with the coaches they follow behind leaving like rotating doors.
I'd move forward with the RB's we have, and focus this offseason on making our defense more stout and brute. Because our defense is not up to par. But, if this team has forgotten how to be successful, look at Pittsburgh and New England. Both teams have elite, bruising, down-hill style running backs. Thats the difference between us and them. Lagarette Blunt, as much as i hate him, is a very intimidating running back. And Le'veon Bell.... well I just say this, what's understood does not need to be explained.
I have been saying this. I like both backs, but they are not playmakers. They can't make something out of nothing. They can't take a 8 yard gain and make it an 80 yard touchdown. We need someone with speed and agility. We need a guy that makes the other team think, "If I miss this tackle or take a bad angle this is going to the house".
I agree with you in a way. Kennith Dixon is very good, but I feel that his size is to small to be depended on as a lead back in our division. And i just do not see productive longevity from West. We went from Jamal Lewis, to Mcghee, then to Ray Rice, to now shuffling between a variety of not so sure RB's. Like I said, Kennith Dixon is very good, but he would be much more productive as a second punch leading behind a star RB. Imagine if Dixon was backing up Ray Rice in his prime, instead of Pierce lol.
Our running game is OK at best without help from our passing game. We need a game-changing TE, and a threat WR.
I see they didn't put Joe Flacco's 2017 cap hit on the chart..........
No wonder this team is in a hole. We're paying guys too much money, including Mike Wallace, and Wright. We are shelling out too much money in Free Agency and its hampering us. We need to focus more on building a team up, and not buying one like the Redskins. That chart above really opened my eyes up, Ozzie needs to get it together.

Am I the only one who thinks this guy is overrated?
