Finally the light bulb came on. You can not build a team around "Jump Ball Joe" he is far too inaccurate and simple minded to carry a NFL team. With this draft, I'm so happy, the Ravens are getting back to their hard-hitting defensive ways and not a continuation of Flacco's inept dog and pony show .
Your wisdom is surpassed only by your total lack of knowledge of football and your non-logical thought process.
I'll bite. I claim I know nothing about football too. IMO, Joe can't carry this team as his track record speaks for itself. And with what the Ravens offense and Tucker did do, the defense now hopefully can stop fading in the 4th and win a few more games. (Do the Jets, Raiders and Redskins games come to mind?) Just because you are Flacco fan doesn't mean you should belittle others that you don't agree with.
I'm assuming not addressing the O-Line nor WR means the following. One, we are fairly certain Center Mangold will sign with us. Two, WR Boldin is leaning towards signing with us or we are just comfortable with Chris Moore. Lastly, we will find a Tackle or Guard in the 4th or 5th and and possibly move Alex Lewis to RT depending on who we draft.
We shall see! GO RAVENS!
Nope. Still need a RT/G. Ok, I agree that I looks like Mangold may come here and if Boldin comes? So be it. I doubt the Ravens are counting on a 4th/5th/6th round draft pick starting in September. So, Band Aids for another year on offense.
No John, it's not a sexy pick. Time will tell if he can cover NFL receivers.
Drew Brees makes everyone on his team better. He does not have top WR talent and still puts up 5000k yards a year. Flacco does not.
Well he had a first round pick in Brandin Cooks, now has a top tier WR like Michael Thomas to throw to, and also played with Jimmy Graham who put up quality numbers with Seattle.
As is normally the case, the real answer is in the middle. There's not a single QB in NFL history who has produced without quality talent around them. That includes Brees, Brady, and any other QB the ignorant fans think just make receivers look good.
My point overall with to dismiss this notion that teams that have highly paid QBs don't need to use quality draft picks on receiving targets around them. The Saints have a very highly paid QB, and they've used a 1st (one they traded up to get) and a 2nd on receivers in recent years.
The top 3 receivers on Green Bay... all 2nd round picks. That's called making a high investment in the position.
What makes you think Cooks,Thomas and Graham would be "stars" with Flacco at QB? OK, so Pitta had a ton of receptions but no yardage. There are QB's like Brady, Rodgers, Brees and even Carr... and then are are QB's like Flacco, Dalton and Tannehill. People need to get real at the Ravens probably can't wait to get out from underneath Flacco's SB contract.
Why only 10? We know with Steve Bisciotti, that money isn't everything. Do the blokes not like band music?
Miami in August? That will be a warm one.
Ravens are currently 29th out of 32 teams in cap space availability. Patriots have 55 million compared to Ravens 12 million so get use to losing.
Implies there is a correlation between cap spending and winning, which there isn't...
Let me know the last time somebody won March and also won February.
How about we look at the teams that manage the cap well and win. Ravens haven't done a real good job lately. If you want; compare the Pats who have virtually no loyalty to the Ravens, who have paid high prices and long-term contracts and now are paying for it. No pun intended.
Part of me was holding onto hope that maybe Elam could become what he was in college, and before that injury last year i kinda got my hopes up. Oh well.
How much did you watch him in college. As a Florida resident, he was on every Saturday. He was small but on a good defense then. He wasn't even that big of a hitter. Not hard to figure out he wouldn't make it with the big boys.
Have the Ravens cut they guy yet??? He's not much of a player to start with so let him go!!! Cap Space!!!
Did you read the article? His option was not picked up.
Every time we have a run game conversation I get confused.
Here are my questions. If everyone says 4 out of the 5 parts of our line was so good, can a bad center really wreck an O line or are we over valuing some of the other parts?
Why did we not run behind our full back more?
Why are all of the coaches surprised we did not run more, don't they call the plays?
Why are we staying an a Zone scheme when it only worked the Kubiac year, our line was made to maul not finesse?"Specifically, extending Joe Flacco’s contract with a boatload of new guaranteed money before they were forced to and when he was coming off a down season can be debated. Spending precious salary cap space on an old tight end in Ben Watson, who was promptly injured, after the team had been decimated by injuries in previous seasons was another head scratcher. And choosing a pair of defenders on Day 2 of the draft, Kamalei Correa and Bronson Kaufusi, who did not have the pedigree or NFL ready bodies to provide instant coffee was suspect." There a lot of that going around.
They did not know if Pitta was going to make it. And Gilmore and Williams still have not proved their worth. How is that a head scratcher?
Gotta get another RB 6ft 230-240 lbs like Willis McGahee and B. Pierce! I like whom we have now but in the draft gotta get another big back because Willis was a beast and Pierce was rite on track but we all know how that ended! I just don't want to wear our backs out when we have all this fire power at WR!
Name just one of the Ravens' WR firepower.
Steve: “I don’t think that we’re going to be successful putting the ball in the air 600-and-some times. It’s just not our identity, and I don’t know how we got that far away from it.” Translation: Joe is not Brady, Aaron, Drew or even Matt Ryan. What the heck?? Why did John let Mark and Marty let Joe throw it so much less than one year removed from ACL surgery? John's and Marty's job is make or break this year. Trestman ran the ball 35.8% of the time. Marty ran the ball 34.7%. Nice job John.
Ozzie: “We need to improve in the offensive line,” Translation: Zuttah got beat up, pushed around and exposed. Unless the Ravens wiff on a replacement, he will be gone. As for Wagner? The guy has earned a right to negotiate an nice new contract. I wonder what he will "settle" for to stay in Baltimore?
Sure would be nice if the Ravens knew what they wanted to be. At least, now, they know they aren't a Drew Brees' high flying passing offense. At least i hope they know.
first off we need to get rid of Joe Flacco for saying that, Flacco only good at being a family man. He does not care if we win or loose, you can see that from his body language. I don't blame him I blame the FO for giving him that big contract and now we have to deal with it like the NO Saints.
Whose big contract? Brees? I'd love to have Brees. Payton? I'd love to have Sean Payton.
When the team fired Cam Cameron there was tangible change in the offense that could be easily seen under Caldwell years ago. I mean Anquan Boldin was used more in the slot, we attacked the middle of the field a lot more. And ultimately the team won a Super Bowl so keeping Caldwell and thinking things would only get better seemed obvious ( although it failed ).
Now this year the switch from Trestman to Marty hasn't be as obvious. The offense still never attacked down field, still failed to execute a proper Screen play ever. Had games where they failed to establish a balanced attack or completely abandoned the run.
For a screen play to be executed, the QB needs to release the ball quickly so the receiver is in open space. By the time Joe gets the ball out, there are 2 or 3 defenders in his face with only one blocker. So when is someone accountable?
Yanda's comments sound boilerplate. How can I be a fly on the wall and find out what he really thinks?
Dennis: The Ravens are consistent on offense. They run 3 plays. Either Joe throws it to you, he throws it to a running back 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage or he throws it to the defense.

2014: Mosley, Jernigan, Campanaro, Gilmore....
2015: Perriman, Williams, Smith, Boyle, Waller
2016: Just about every draft pick is on the team.
It's not that Ozzie and staff doesn't draft players as they choose quantity over quality. That's the rub. No superstars are being drafted. No one is afraid of anyone on the Ravens. No one.
6 hours ago, balfan23 said:The article really appeared to put the majority of the blame on our inability to reach the playoffs for the 3rd time in 4 years on the front office, more than Harbaugh and his staff. While the article does appear to question what direction we'll ultimately go in terms of who will lead the offense, nothing at all hinted at a change at DC.
The front office deserves blame as they have wiffed on many high draft picks. Prime example? Matt Elam. I watched Elam play at Florida and nothing screamed first round pick. But, I screamed when he was selected and the Ravens reached for him and at the very least should have taken another too highly rated, Cyprien. Elam might have laid big hits on 175 lb. receivers but he is/was no match for NFL caliber players. The front office has proven by it's history that they cannot identify great offensive playmaker talent and that is concerning to say the least.
You guys act like you know how to run an organization, we don t make the playoffs let fire everyone and we start from zero, right? Give me the name of a HC who has a better record than Harbs and that the ravens can get. How many 8-8 and losing seasons Jason Garet had before he took the Cowboys to this level. How many losing season has Sean Payton had since he won the Superbowl. How many playoffs wins and SB has Andy Reid. How many playoffs appeareance has Bruce Arians. Those are among the best coaches in the league. Now compare them to Harbs record. Look at the 49ers, great team with Jim Harbs but what happened to them when he was fired. Firing harbs is not going to solve our problem. We need a better OC maybe DC. Then we have to fill the holes in the defense. You just don't fire your HC and the FO because they did not make playoff. This FO gave us 2 SBs and a lot of playoffs wins in 20 years while some teams were in the league for ever and don t have a SB. Chill people we have a great organization and we will be fine going forward.
Couldn't disagree more. When you are satisfied with 8 and 8 and are comparing yourself to all the other losers, then you have already lost. What has made this organization one of the best is they never quit trying to improve and only have one goal and that is to make a run in the post-season. And if you think this organization will be fine by standing pat, you are mistaken. Whomever was responsible for letting Trestman go because he passed too much and then let Mornhinweg pass the ball even more will pay the price. Their is a lot of accountability to be had moving forward.
the front office is as much to blame as harbaugh. harbaugh will be here next season but his butt will be on the hot seat.
I thought his butt was on the hot seat this year? Until the organizations' philosophy changes, why get rid of Harbs. He has no issues with Joe passing 50 times a game and a bend but don't break (sometimes) defense. Only when Steve Bisciotti gets fed up with poor drafts, lack of on-field discipline (penalties), trying to make Flacco into Drew Brees, no pass rush and accepting an old defense that has nothing left in the fourth quarter will things change. This is a league set up for passing and the Ravens have no true weapons on offense and a defense that has shown it can't handle the good QB's.
10 hours ago, sp3ctor said:This game was everything it was promised to be, of course minus the preferential outcome for the Raven's Flock. This defense fell apart right after the Miami game and hasn't been able to put together a solid performance since, while the offense which was, let's say tepid to be nice, played extremely well ever since the miami game (minus new england but that was tough sledding to say the least). If only we could have pulled it together sooner and not dropped 4 in a row in october we would have run away with the division. Instead we're out. All I can say with any great optimism is that if the second half of the season is a sign of where this team is headed next season, we are bound for sunnier shores. But it stings to say the least. On the plus side I don't have to worry about missing the opening game of the playoffs on a count of my gf's Orthodox christmas celebrations. #silverlining
Regardless we are at worst 8-8 on the season with a 3 game improvement on the previous season, some nice momentum moving into the next season, and the possibility of a big bounceback year next year. There's a lot to be optimistic about for 2017.
You do understand the Ravens played an easier schedule? You do understand they went 2-6 against good teams and besides Miami, only beat a Squealer team with Ben playing at 50% and a Cincy team with no AJ Green? And if they lose to Cincy next Sunday, I don't see much "momentum" in that. The Ravens have talent issues, salary cap issues, coaching issues and game philosophy issues. I am always optimistic and like most, was hoping for another 2012 year. Unfortunately, the Ravens' personnel and philosophy need major tweaks. Maybe Ozzie and staff can hit a home run in the draft?
The Ravens wouldn't have been able to stop the offense in the Lingerie League today. Pathetic! Don't worry, John will look at the tape and see what went wrong, since he's the only one who doesn't see Pees called a lousy game in the 4th qtr. That's a major reason I love BB of the Pats, he knows when to cut these bums loose....Us? we know how to make a roster look nice on paper with all the retreads in the front and back of the house. Time to root for the Pats or Steelers! Two teams that have the drive to win!!!!
Umm. Unlike you, I will practically root for anyone OTHER than those two teams. BTW, what is the definition of a "fair weather fan"?
The 4th quarter was as bad as I have ever seen the Ravens play on defense in the last 10 years. You give up 240 yards on 21 plays and 3 TDs in one quarter. Who does that? That's over 12 yards pr play The Browns' defense would have put up more of a battle. Horrendous. Everyone wants to blame Flacco when we lose but we put up enough points against the Steelers today, against Oakland and against the Giants to have won all 3 of those games. Every time the defense faced a really good QB (Derek Carr, Brady, Big Ben, Dak Prescott) they got their lunch handed to them They played 8 games against teams with a winning record and went 2-6. I guess when you lose to the woeful Jets you don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
You call Derek Carr and Dak Prescott really good QBs? One is a rookie and the other is average at best. No excuses for this garbage team.
Those guys are not costing their team 20 million a year.
Not yet.

So Joe threw to whom? Boldin? According you, no. Jacoby did what in Denver and in the SB? According you, nothing. The defense played much better than it did during the season for those 4 games. Yes, Joe had a remarkable 4 games but it was only possible because of the rest of the team, Boldin, Jones and others. Oh, and rah, rah Joe!
