Why not? He's useful catching and blocking, someone is bound to overpay.

He also can carry the ball and he got better every year he played. Idk what the market is for FBs but I think he's worth over 4 mil annually. 4 yrs/17 mil. 4 mil sign bonus/10 mil guaranteed total. We talk bout improving the run game last thing I want to see is the FB rolling out the door.

Of course not now figuring it out! However it could cause teams to place higher value on the offensive line including RT. Whereas RT usually rides in the back seat. He Could be riding shotgun this offseason. Hard to say if Wagner sets a new standard for RT only players. But the potential is definitely there. No different than impulse shopping. You see something somebody else has and you suddenly want it regardless of the price tag. Don't be surprised if Wagner gets $8-9 million/annually

And he'll not be worth every penny.

Which is brilliant if you ask me. A dominant NT or DT is more disruptive than a dominant edge guy on a more regular basis, and interior guys can't be helped by scheme. You can always -- and sometimes easily -- scheme help to both tackles on the same play via a TE/RB chip.

Also, with a strong interior, the QB doesn't have to worry so much about a collapsing pocket. That's what the Saints had in 09 with their guards, whose names escape me. Brees is short and needs a clean pocket. They had great guards with run of the mill tackles, and it worked. They even had a good run game when they needed it.

Totally agree bout interior linemen being worth more than RT where you're not only facing bigger guys to keep the pocket from collapsing but you're also asked to pull and trap and get to the 2nd level whereas an RT is mainly asked to keep the outside pressure off and can also get help from chipblocking. Wagner is worth no more than 7 mil annually and I think that's a little too high even tho I want to see him stay mainly cuz of continuity.

Edit: Sorry to repeat the chipblocking lol.

Ideally you retain 75 percent of your draft class for their rookie deals and retain 33 percent in a second deal. That's my take.

And, I'm not sure we're doing either.

Well off the top of my head we got Joe,Pitta,Jimmy,Yanda,Suggs and Webb as original Ravens after their rookie contracts so that doesn't look good lol.

Makes sense. So what qualification do scouts normally have?  Does a single scout that covers his one area, do they cover every position as well?  Seems like it would be hard for a scout to know what to look for at every position.

All just opinions here but to me a high football IQ plus great communication skills are what is needed to be a successful scout for ex a 50 yr old scout has to be able to fluctuate between talking to parents, coaches and the athletes with varying age differentials and different backgrounds. Also willing to travel and be gone from home for long stretches at a time which is a mindset of it's own

Also the scouting is definitely split into regional coverage with a chain where it works up to national scout and then on to Oz and Eric themselves and again back to opinion Oz probally does a lot of film watching, talking on the phone to scouts and coaches alike but probally doesn't do a lot of footwork but depends on his scouts (who he hires). Also there's private firms that can be hired to supply data that is also acquired which I believe the Ravens use.

Hopefully you find a good article cuz I'm curious myself.

I like the comp pick strategy, but it relies on you to be hitting on 33 percent of your picks -- and here's the kicker -- and retaining them for the duration of their rookie deal. That second part has been our problem I think.

I think you have to collect comps when you have so much cap invested in QB and in your red chip players.

I'm not sure if its the rookie deal part of it but to me its not getting that 2nd deal done. We need at least 2 out of 3 from Wagner,Williams or Juice to make the 2013 draft any sort of success. This has been my big gripe. Us not keeping our own that are going into their prime and redeveloping our identity with homegrown talent. Right now I'm thinking those 3 plus Aiken are our chances for comp picks and I'm hoping we can keep it to 2 and see what happens from there.

Why not just cut a number of additional players so we can cut the Flacco? We can make X more than Y+Z if we try! Don't worry about signing draft picks this year, we can trade them all away to other teams for picks in the 2019 draft, and (like in Madden) we can get more value for those future picks (example: 2017 1st for a 2019 1st and 2nd). We would literally be golden by 2019!

Not like there's any chance we whiff on multiple quarterbacks with that plan. Or that the fan base would lose faith in the franchise who is legitimately without a doubt tanking for 2 years straight. In fact, it's completely sane to think people who work to keep this team afloat would agree if we drew this up and lay it down in front of them they would say "hell yes! Sign me up and put my name on that!" /end sarcasm

Yeah man but we can get Sam Darnold aka Capt America. "Here I come to save the daaay"

I have been saying this for two or three years now.  I got laughed at a lot, but I am standing by this.  Soon, I don't know when, but soon the Browns are going to be division competitors. Not just us, the whole division.

When they get their QB is when they gonna compete and I'm so worried Tyrod could become that guy. Gives me the shivers.

Without stockpiling picks for 2016 we wouldn't have Judon and we would have been short a fourth round pick, so we would be losing one of young, Lewis, Dixon, Henry, or Moore. If we went with Henry or Moore over Dixon Lewis or young then this draft class suddenly wouldn't look so good, but we stockpiled picks and got home runs in the mid rounds which set up our future nicely.

Not to mention, we drafted KC to be an edge rusher and he fell short there, but looked good at ILB, and Zach Orr retired, so we set ourselves up nicely with an insurance policy. I'd rather have KC at ilb with Judon and Dixon/young/Lewis than spence or jack, easy.

Dixon was the one we got so RayRay WrongWrong again.

Again you can't just compare their PFF rankings and so ok Zuttahs better.

OL grading is terribly subjective especially when it comes to grading individuals.

Their play is going to be effected by who is around them a great deal. Having Yanda next to you is going to make any lineman look better. Having an injury and playing on the Jets OL will make you look worse.

Then theres fit. Fit in terms of the defenses we face in division and what we want to do in the run game.

Zuttah just can't handle to big, physical NTs and DTs we face week in week out in the AFCN. Mangold is a dirty, grinding mauler. He can battle those guys.

He also can push guys around. Zuttah can when he's on the move but with us doing less and less stretch zone we need guys that can generate push right off the snap. Zuttah just can't do it often enough on inside zone, gap or power based plays.

Then theres leadership. Mangold has been a premier C for a decade. His knowledge of the game, awareness in picking up blitzes, and that workmanlike attitude can really help a young line. And Joe.

Plus as TheRaven pointed out.... he's much like a Center version of Yanda. Put those 2 next to eachother and interior DL are going to be miserable.

Yes... all of this assumes he's over the injury and that it was partially to blame for his poor play (along w/ no talent around him) but Zuttah is not the answer going forward.

Idc what PFF says I saw him all year. Beside penalties he just gets pushed back far too often right off the snap. That hurts the whole line. Puts pressure in Joe's lap right away.

And Zuttah is the exact opposite of what the team has said they want from the OL going forward. Even if (which is a big If imo) Zuttah is better at what he does than Mangold is at what he does.... what Zuttah does no longer fits. He's a liability on many inside runs, and he can't hold up against big, interior guys in pass protection.

Right on and I'm totally salivating at the chance to grab Mangold. Leadership, nastiness and physicality are important components that are not measured by PFF plus as you stated how's the rest of the line doing.

Ryan didn't have any worse a second than flacco had in the super bowl. The difference was play calling in the biggest moments.

But I fully agree with the end of your post. If birk had gotten shoved into flaccos lap on his 3rd and 1 audible it would've been flaccos fault according to most.

Like its Hurst's fault that Joe got injured.

Yep.  When you have issues with the basic fundamentals of football, you're not going to be good no matter what position you're playing.  He was just a bad football player and there's not much more explanation needed, in my opinion.  It had 0 to do with what role he was playing, and everything to do with a lack of ability.

    And lack of common sense.

you need to revise those numbrs. to show what his new team pics up in comin yrs.  its a good deal to trade him. we will take a hit but not what u yellowed. doan make me write the hole comprehesuv plan!!!  just know it involvs 2 number 1's for joe and sam dranold.

No it'd be the column to the far right not the one yellowed. So that's better. Who we getting 2 # 1's and Sam Darnold from anyways? If Joe is worth that to you then why trade him lol? You totally understand nothing about the cap amigo. We stuck with Joe 2 yrs minimum whether we like it or not. Get used to it and accept it hahahaha.

  12. Are you talking about virtual reality?

If so then in someways it could be of use with certain programming creating lifelike scenarios but you still have to be careful if a player say a QB is trying to avoid a passrush for example while going thru his reads. He could still suffer a freak injury while trying to avoid something he sees real. It would be best to keep seated while using headfakes to avoid and using a button to throw a pass. All in all tho real simulation and contact is neccassary to get ready for the season.
