  1. No it's the exact same situation.  Both teams voided the last years of the deal at the time of the trade.  Redding had 2 years remaining when he was traded, but the final year of his contract was voided and he played out the 1 year remaining.  It wasn't voided during the offseason where he immediately became a UFA.  The same exact thing happened with Monroe.

Monroe signed a 5 yr deal as a rookie. He's entering his 6th yr. Redding probally had some sort of clause where he could void the last year of his contract.

  2. You sound pretty crazy. Good, starting LTs don't get cut. There is nobody outside of Robinson that is better then Monroe in the draft, and he's going top 4 without a doubt. If we try to replace him in the draft, there will be a drastic fall in production.

And people on here seem to fail to realize the most important aspect of this whole equation; if Monroe walks, Oher stays... Regardless. If you want Michael Oher to be our LT, then you should be happy. We will not let both starting Ts walk in the same offseason.

I think its very possible both could walk. Regardless we'll find out around 4:00clock. KO or Wagner imo could start at RT.

  3. Average left tackle? I'm curious as to who you think are the great tackles....

And what better player do you think realistically gets released or has a chance of getting released? Please, enlighten me

Is he a top 5 LT and should be paid as such. Just in our own division Joe Thomas and Andrew Whitwort are better and yes there is more.

I'm not saying somebody gets released is better but somebody servicable could get released which would release more money for somebody else plus you may to bite the bullet and take a lineman with the 1st pick.

  4. Just cuz Oz gave up a couple draft picks for Monroe does not make this reason as to why we should keep him. He was trying to turn the season around for last year and knew he was getting comp picks to replace them. Monroe is just an average LT who right now is looking to make it big on his 2nd contract. He's not worth a big signing bonus and 10 mil a year. You never know a good player could be released later from another team. You just have to play the hand and let him walk. 8 mil? Maybe. 10 mil? Hell no!!

  5. I believe a lot of agents are gonna be telling their clients to hit the free agent market cuz teams are gonna be overpaying with all this extra cap space. Best bet is to franchize Monroe and let the others test the FA market and see if we can match. I hope we can resign a couple  of ours prefereably Graham and Pitta and maybe a couple of our SpTeamers but I think somebodys gonna throw a 3 yr 15 mil contract to D Smith.

  6. It will probably happen for Graham, but it can't happen for Pitta.  That in between number would be roughly $9M.  Pitta is nowhere near worth $9M annually.

Yeah I know. I'm just hoping they come to some sort of agreement before the tag needs to be issued. I heard on NFL Radio that if we tag him as a TE and lose the arbitration process that says he should be tagged as a WR he will automatically become an unrestricted FA.

  7. The Ravens had the same problem with Suggs. He wanted DE money and the Ravens laid the OLB tag on him. They actually worked out a tweener tag meeting in the middle. Same outcome could happen with Pitta and Graham.

My problem with all this is that rulebooks don't state where TEs have to line up and you don't see WRs lining up inline but yet Pitta has.

  8. I don't think Daryl Smith will command too much given he's 31 and playing a position that's not highly sought after in free agency.  He's actually the one free agent I would say is a lock to return without any hesitation.

When we got him he was coming off a down year and also lost some time with injuries. Now that he's bounced back and had a great season...............

No question he's the better player. Especially in the long-term. By the sounds of it Art could command upwards of 5m a season somewhere; we will not be paying him that.

If he'll sign for 5 mil it's a nobrainer. Ngata could be a cap casualty next year and it's not like we have stud central up front.

  9. Baltimore sport and life article on Jim Hostler! http://baltimoresportsandlife.com/baltimore-ravens/jim-hostler-even-qualified-install-nfl-offense/

so points to look at Jim and his time with Offenses!

What went wrong with Anquan Boldin in Baltimore that he couldn’t top 65 catches, and didn’t sniff a 1,000 yard season in three seasons while still considered in his prime? This is the first question I’m asking Jim Hostler in any interview.

To sum it all up, what does Jim Hostler have to hang his hat on?

    • One good season of Santana Moss, followed by regression
    • Failure to develop two first round QBs, Pennington and Smith
    • Complete failure in Alex Smith’s case as the number one overall pick
    • Regression in one of the league’s best running games when he installed his game plan in SF
    • In six years with the Ravens he’s got Torrey Smith, jury still out on Marlon Brown, and a long list of what could have been
    • Regression of Anquan Boldin who just proved he can still put up great numbers in any offense on the wrong side of 30 years old

Someone enlighten me? What makes Jim Hostler qualified to install and run an NFL offense expected to produce better results than the Ravens offense did in 2013?

Especially after that horrible season he had as OC of the 9ers before he became our WR coach. Not a very good record. Unqualified. It will be a major disappointment if Shanahans not named next OC.

Isn't it funny that this topic started off as Kubiak as next OC and he didn't even get an interview.

  10. We didn't do that because we wanted to though.  We did that because the Oline was awful in run and pass blocking.  It was a way to give Flacco more time and to get less guys in the box on plays we did try to run the ball.

If we had been able to run the ball at all we wouldn't have seen near as much shotgun.

Very good points. It did seem like we went to the full shotgun package in the 2nd half of the Bills game and never left but they also changed our blocking schemes during the offseason which caused a lot of confusion.

  11. Think what's being overlooked (maybe not initially) but more recently in this topic is that if they go with Shanahan the FO and Harbaugh know the system needs to be changed and that the system is the problem.

If they go with Hostler the FO and Harbaugh don't think the system is the problem, just they haven't found the "right" guy to run the same system they've had since 2008.

Tbh when they ran what seemed like 90% shotgun plays would tell me the system changed last year.

Shanahan will play to his players strengths(ex RG3). I'm not sure if Hostler will but I wouldn't be surprized if Flacco is endorsing him cuz he wants to play out of shotgun but is that really the best.

  12. Kyle Shanahan seems legit but Scot Linehan seems like he would turn Flacco into what he's capable of being. I think Kyle would bring more schematic flexibility but Linehans aggressiveness bodes well with what we could accomplish having the type of defense we have.

My vote is changed to Scot Linehan

His aggressiveness means he's too pass oriented. I'd rather have Shanahan. A coach that schemes to his players strengths.

  13. Yeah, the Redskins better start turning RG3s carreer around, because he's starting to look like a bust.

Anyway, I would be interested in where Shanahan might take this offense and how much change Harbs is willing to allow. I have a feeling, the Ravens were ready to let go of Caldwell regardless of his job situation and might be preparing for big changes in the offensive playbook.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I really think we need go away even further from Cam's system.

He'd only be a bust cuz of Shanahans stupidness. Pops that is.

  14. Every single measure you want to use shows the defense improved. That's not a myth.

    Read Fla fans post.

Are Ryan,Romo, and Stafford better than Flacco in your opinion. Clutch is the most important factor. Not prettyboy stats

  15. Let me say this about the defense this season.  Yes, they failed to make a lot of crucial stops in a lot of games. I can't tell you that they didn't; they did.

However, the 22 points allowed per game is misleading by the fact that the offense gave up four pick sixes and a fumble return for a TD, not to mention putting the defense in more bad situations by turning the ball over more than usual.

Those stats shouldn't count against the D.

According the NFL.com, we scored 320 points, just 20 a game. That's ranked 25th in the NFL. Yet, our scoring defense ranked 12th, allowing just 22 points a game.

So, the defense is above average and the offense is well below average. The defense's job is to not allow points and the offense's job is to score points. The defense ranked better (13 spots better) at its job than the offense did at its job. That's all I need to know.

The myth was the 2013 D was better than the 2012 D. How come we're talking bout the O. We all know this years O stunk. No myth there.

The 2013 D couldn't close out games. Statswise they were better. Clutchwise not(remember the 4th down stop in the SB). It seems like the myth changed to who was better. O or D.
