  1. this is just an excuse for poor play. there are 31 other QB's a week that do not look like crap and are feeling pressure from opposing defenses with their sub par pass protection. are we suppose to believe he is behind the worst line in the history of man? this is occurring almost every year. Flacco is under pressure partially because he fails to diagnose the defense before the snap and continues with a bad play, and partially due to his lack of ability to escape. If it is happening every play, it is even less of an excuse because he should know he either needs to move to avoid pressure or audible to a play that will exploit the rush. Unfortunately, he is fairly clueless pre-snap and he is bailing out by throwing off his back foot or throwing the ball into the ground before he is even hit.

  2. Other than Mel Kiper who always gives Ozzie high grades for the draft, who have we really drafted over the last seven years who have turned onto IMPACT players not just roster fillers? CJ Mosely-YES, Brandon Williams MAYBE, Jimmy Smith-OK to MAYBE, Yanda-YES, Stanley looking like a YES(Hopefully) and KO who took the Raiders money(which ALL players should do). Who else am I missing?

Mosley had a good rookie year and is a nice player but impact player? Yet to be determined. Everyone else you named outside of Yanda is average. Willams has yet to do anything. Jimmy Smith is constantly burned, never looks back for the ball and makes stupid penalties and cannot catch. Tucker is literally the only above average player acquired in 8 seasons. Suggs and Dumervile are now completely ineffective. Wallace has made some nice catches and has been a decent FA so far. Otherwise, none of them have really done much since Boldin. The front office is whiffing big time in all aspects of management of the roster. Finally they cant cover it up anymore.

  3. This team is predictable. Find a way to collapse or be completely lethargic for 3 1/2 quarters, then rip your heart out making it look like they have a chance, only to piss it away. They preach every week about improving and making less mistakes, yet here we are 4 years later and they continue to decline almost every single game. They cannot advance the ball to obtain a first down against the worst defenses in the league. If you have not noticed yet, Flacco is completely inept unless he is running the shotgun in a hurry up offense from down 6 to 14 points. Even that has been horrific this season. He is bailing out before pressure even reaches him, and is a liability to the receivers. I would have pulled him out if not after the first pic, after the second and named Mallet the starter for Pittsburgh. If they stick with Joe, this season is not going to get any better. Personally, if there is anyone foolish enough to take him off their hands before the trade deadline, they should jump at it and start looking for someone on the waiver wire who can be just as effective for 18 mil less a season.

  4. Tavon Young played a great game. The 1st TD allowed was a tough assignment where we was in press coverage in the slot. The WR had way too much time to get open and Manning made a great throw. The last TD, Weddle took him out of the play accidentally. This kid was the only one not getting smoked every play. He was just on the unfortunate end of the two biggest plays.

Keep your head up Tavon! Best cover corner we have outside of Jimmy Smith, who was a 1st Round pick and took years to develop.

I totally agree. Young looks like to only DB worth keeping around if you ask me. If they can get anything in trade value for anyone but Weddle and Young, have at it and find some additional draft picks, though they will probably just waste them on backups and special teamers like always.

  5. law215,

    Couple things...

As far as drafting going down hill. Whether you believe it or not. Im 1 who believes drafting has gone down hill, just like roster talent with the more power&influence Harbaugh gets. He wants "Yes Men" Nice Guys not alpha dogs. And while media will defend him by saying Smithsr,Sizzle are Alphas. Yeah but they wont ruffle any feathers either they are good characters.
Years past Ozzie would draft a Chris McAlister shutdown CB but a knucklehead because his talent was too much to overpass, he wouldve went and got a Noah Spence last year with similar backage but instead he went with 2 lower ceiling(Correa,Koufusi) higher character guys..thats all John Harbaugh.

You dont win with Character Nice guys. You win with Talented guys, Alpha dogs.
No matter what anybdy says..Ozzie didnt forget how to draft...its just Harbaugh gainec influence and put more emphasis on character

I do not really care whether the player is an alpha dog or not. That is just macho crap and talk. Draft players with football IQ and talent. All of these guys are athletes, the difference is who is more adept at match ups and reading the play. Suggs is one of the dumbest players on the team, constantly getting personal fouls and ill timed offside penalties, even after playing for years. Jimmy Smith was a hard case as well, and he doesnt look all that good on potential ceiling either. Dumb penalties, missed assignments, looks slow or easily beaten 4 out of 5 plays. They just have to select better football players in general, something they have failed at miserably now for 8 years.

  6. how about this for a trade: joe thomas for flacco. trade him to the browns they are desperate with injuries, and hue jackson knows him. thomas could fill our left tackle void for a year or two. let staley get healthy, or play another spot as he gets stronger. our line is decimated. the cap hits are not all that different and cleveland certainly has money to pay flacco.

  7. promise? are you freaking kidding me? this is easily the worst offense in the league and has been for at least 2 years. harbaugh has absolutely no clue how to fix anything or simply be a competent game manager. flacco continues to regress and get worse. i think he was probably the most sound as a rookie and has looked like crap and been reliant on outstanding defense to gift him wins throughout his career. now that the D is average to mediocre, you see the results. trade flacco to the browns please so he can wallow in obscurity for a few years with hue jackson.

  8. i just expect them to lose every game. even when we went up, i knew we would lose giving up some sloppy long pass on a blown coverage and sabotage the pathetic performance. they were given gifts all day including 2 penalties on the last drive which imo were really tick tack. the coaching staff and front office needs to be cleaned out from top to bottom including the GM. i am sure they will let them flounder for the rest of the season and claim they are working to "get better" like every week since eternity. i wouldnt mind decosta staying, but if he had anything to do with the state of the team now, it would not upset me to send him along.

flacco looked like he had potential as a rookie, but the poor ability to read and make accurate throws over several seasons proves his SB run was just a lucky anomaly. should have just let him walk and built the next team with any journeyman qb who would be much more capable of running an offense. at this point, i would sit his butt down and play mallet to see if the results are different. if mallet is even remotely decent, trade flacco for whatever you can get. he is incompetent as the offensive leader.

  9. If Stanley is not healthy after the bye, they may as well IR him as the season will likely be mediocre at best. i have no faith in the offense waking up, especially with 3-4 guys on the line filling unfamiliar positions or marginal backups. i hope marty proves me wrong but i have been hearing the same spiel about its potential for years. the lack of depth is a combination or poor draft quality and unmanageable contracts for guys like suggs, dumervil, webb, pitta and flacco who are underperforming. if the most expensive guys you have are not impact players, you are on a road to nowhere.

  10. "He is going to have to put his foot in the ground and drive the ball to some guys, and some guys are going to have to make the catches.”

This is the struggle of the entire offense. Joe can't put his plant foot in the ground when the defenders are collapsing the pocket and he's being pushed backwards. And Aiken, Wallace & Perriman are dropping too many balls. Aiken catches that ball against Oakland and Tucker kicks the winning FG. Perriman gets his feet down or Wallace makes that catch and maybe that's a win as well. Winners make plays.

how is every other qb in the league able to throw intermediate to deep throws, but flacco cannot? surely there are not 31 great offensive lines giving everyone perfect protection and we are the only team not. we are leading the league in pass attempts or at the top. flacco just has no awareness or escapability to find a dead spot when rush is oncoming, like every other qb. he has never had that quality which is why he fumbles a lot when he is sacked. he throws some excellent passes, but more often lately he is bailing out and throwing inaccurately and it is not just because there is pressure, but that he cannot escape or evade it. that is a flacco problem.

  11. so basically, the same exact thing you have been saying every week since forever Harbs. Thanks for the insight. Run it more, and go deep. How about a pass play that is not a sideline pattern or TE seam route? Some more diverse running calls than the stretch? Open the playbook beyond the 12 standard plays you run over and over and maybe the D would not be able to predict it.

No it wasn't the single greatest postseason run he tied Montana. He didn't break the record he tied it. That was 4 years ago. Let's look at the record since then. My opinion he hasn't played to what we are paying him. Rookies QB's are playing well Wentz, Prescott. Joe is 27-25 since the Super Bowl. He hasn't even passed over 4,000 yards in a season. He threw 46 times Sunday and didn't even have 300 yards. We are ranked 32nd in league on 3rd down conversions. That means 31 other quarterbacks were more successful than Joe on 3rd down. I think we lead the league in 3 and outs? Not so great QB's do win the Super Bowl (Trent Dilfer) and then there are other great quarterbacks they have never won Dan Marino, Jim Kelley, Fran Tarkington. Honest to God I want to see him do great but it has to get better than what it's been

I wonder why they just fired Trestman?

because flacco and harbaugh need a scape goat to blame their ineptness on. we are not winning more than 6 games this year.

That would go back to poor draft picks which comes back to bite you. We build from the draft so if we screw up which we have plenty this is when it shows up. It is just so disappointing to watch Joe play the last few years. I keep hoping for the best and just haven't seen it. Every year I think this will be the year Joe breaks out. Nine years later I am still waiting.

    Makes complete sense!
It's not like Flacco has broken dozens of records, led this team to a SB, won a SB MVP, garnered a reputation as THE qb you don't want to see facing your team when it matters, put together the single greatest postseason run of all time, along with Ryan is the reason why rookie QBs are expected to make an immediate impact now and won more games than all but a handful of QBs to ever play the game in his short time here.
I think you should keep waiting til this overpaid scrub actually achieves something.

had it not been a complete stroke of luck with jacoby catching a completely misplayed hail mary, flacco would be a backup in cleveland. he caught fire for 4 games and somehow wakes out of his coma every few games in the 4th quarter to make a game interesting, but what is he doing for the other 50 minutes of every game? not much. i would possibly take every other starting qb in the league before flacco, except like bortles, tannehill and a few others. the rest are better, more aware and more productive running an offense.

  14. this won't change anything, because Flacco is still clueless, no matter who is calling the plays. those who think he has no time: other teams do not all have stellar O lines. the qb's bide time by moving to avoid the rush and allow receivers to get open. Joe is panicking within 3 seconds if there is even the hint of pressure and dumping to the easiest safety valve. same stuff has been going on since he was drafted through several OC's and different schemes, so obviously the coordinator is not the real problem. unless we trade and pickup a veteran lineman to shore up the line, this is what you get. i predict 5-11 based on what i have seen so far.

  15. the season is over. look at the schedule after the bye. if we cant even manage to move the ball against 2 of the worst defenses in the league, and all harbaugh has to say is they need to play better, he is in denial. we will be lucky to win 2 or 3 more games with this level of execution. this all comes from the top. Ozzie and Harbs are failing in a big way and Bichotti better start making people accountable. It is time for a new regime.

  16. This offense is completely pathetic. No excuses to be this bad and tolerate it week in and week out. Flacco is the main problem in my opinion. I am beginning to pray they run the ball so he does not have the opportunity to throw an errant pass or dump it off for 3 yards to Juice 15 times. If that is all you have in your offensive arsenal, and you cannot find time scrambling to allow your receivers to break free some of the time, you need to sit no matter how much money you are making. Mallet should have been brought in to see if that changed the pace or production, and to give him a freaking WAKE UP CALL.

No matter how stupid the play is called by the OC, Flacco can check out of it. The problem is, he is more stupid than the OC, cannot make any adjustments to read defenses to exploit them, or create time in the pocket extend the play at all. The knee problem has only made it worse than it was previously. I cannot recall one play in the past 5 games where he has shuffled his feet to move up in the pocket and avoided pressure.

This defense is solid to above average and could get better if we had some pass rush, which would not expose the mediocre corner play. They continue to sit Judon, who is the only guy who has any effective pass rush. So instead, we activated Dan Brown and Dixon, who played about 8 total snaps.

For me, Mallet should be ready to go this week if they have another unproductive drive in the first quarter. If they lose the next 2 games, Harbaugh should be fired and Leslie Frazier can take over for the interim. Sick of watching horrible football.
