Weddle's football IQ is off the charts. His comedy IQ? Not so much.
I'm pretty encouraged by this. No risk/high reward deal. He is also a very good receiver. I bet Trestman can get something out of him and he won't be the only back and get worn down. Let's see how this plays out. If he really is motivated the sky is the limit. When he was doing well he looked like a bigger, faster, stronger Ray Rice.
So Pitta reduced his salary from 5M to 4M and we still save 4M against the cap? How does that math work?
Its a typo I believe. His base salary is now $1M, creating $4M in cap savings.
If we cut him Post-June 1, it would have been $5M in cap savings (with some roll over into 2017), so we are basically paying $1M to see what he's got.
I also believe we're paying a million to free up the $4mil before June 1. Is that correct?
I envision a scenario where Wentz is taken by Rams and Goff is still available at 6 and someone desperate to get ahead of the 49ers (probably the Eagles) to draft Goff approaches the Ravens about a trade. I think we're in good shape whether or not Wentz and Goff are taken in the top five.

Tunsil obviously is the best prospect and looks to be the best LT coming out since Tyron Smith, but more highly regarded coming out. He is more than ready and he held his own in the SEC against highly touted pass rushers. He literally only gave up 2 sacks in 29 career starts and his nickname is the eraser. C'mon, pretty awesome. He also showed improvement in run blocking and I foresee with his work ethic that he will be elite in that category soon enough.
Bosa is as good as advertised. His sack production dipped this year, but his impact didn't according to PFF. He is an elite defender that can set the edge and stonewall the run game. He might not have the explosiveness of a Von Miller Or Mack, but he has all of the other traits that translate to big success in the NFL, which are great hand abilities to disengage blockers, natural lean to obtain constant leverage, high motor so that he can gas out lineman, and instincts that allow him to outsmart his opponents and find ways into the back field.
Jack when healthy could do it all even though he was slightly lighter than most pro teams would like, but he has since bulked up a little. He is designed to be a elite coverage ILB that can also show flashes in the run game and arrive with surprising pop and wrapping up abilities. His IQ is off the charts as well and he anticipates plays often. Very high ceiling, but worst case is he either becomes a tremendous safety or is designated as a coverage ILB that allows Mosley to play to his strengths as a run defender and blitzer.
Ramsey v. Hargreaves is the most interesting as coming out VH3 is obviously a much more polished CB and has sick ball skills and anticipation to cause turnovers at the next level. He had a few bad games, such as against Alabama, but he has also held his own against other great talents, such as Treadwell. All corners have off days against elite or very good WRs, just look at Chris Harris v. AB, Sherman v. Hilton, Norman v. Julio, etc. Hargreaves high at times might cost him, but his technique and smarts will keep him from ever being a liability, especially since both of our safeties have great coverage abilities to back him up if teams wanted to go over the top often, but even still, Hargreaves has great anticipation that allows him to contest those catches. Ramsey is a converted Safety to CB, but is similar to Patrick Peterson in so many ways. His All-American athleticism keeps him in almost every play and combined with his instincts, he always finds a way to be around the ball. His versatility could present absolute nightmares for coordinators if he doesn't pan out as a strict CB, but with experience and coaching of his technique, Ramsey has the highest ceiling of almost any prospect. I think Hargreaves is deserving of #6 because he will be good, but Ramsey is worth the slight gamble as the best outcome is he joins the elite corner category and our secondary becomes our strength, or he becomes a hybrid that allows Pees to get extra creative and cause confusion at the line, especially since Ramsey is a very good tackler at the line and can also blitz the QB better than any DB in this class.
Okay so hopefully you are a little bit more optimistic like the rest of us now!
Great comments on these players. Good comparison between Hargreaves and Ramsey. Exactly how I see it too. I'm hoping for Jack but wish we knew more about his knee and don't see the Ravens taking a risk on him if his knee's not 100%. I see all the positives surrounding Bosa but for some reason I have a bad feeling about him. I hope it's Ramsey, Tunsil or Jack in that order
rams learned nothing from the redskins by trading so many picks for 1 player. not a smart move
I somewhat agree but you have admire that they've identified a guy they like and they are making a move for him. They pretty much have everything but a quality QB so good on them for taking a stab. They're essentially just giving back what the Redskins gave them for RGIII.
Buckner will not be drafted by the Ravens. He's a mid-first round talent. He will be absolutely treated like a rag doll by NFL O-linemen until he gets stronger and learns to get lower leverage. He is a project who could be great but has too many things to work on to merit the 6th pick. Assuming 2 QBs taken already Ravens will have choice between Tunsil, Ramsey, Bosa or Jack. I'd be thrilled with any of those.
Would love to get Miles jack but I don't see him getting past Jacksonville.
I can't believe Mel Kiper thinks the Ravens will draft Elliott especially since he's made it clear he's a Ravens fan. I wonder what he's thinking?
I still say we will have teams that need a qb dying to have our pick at 6 to get ahead of the Niners. Rams, Eagles,....
Wow, 7 picks of the first 134 players should really make a huge difference
I get tired of hearing about how many starters are left from Super Bowl 47. Seems unfair not to mention Justin Tucker, Sam Koch, Morgan Cox, Albert McClellan and Dennis Pitta who are also still on the team.
We need to get him involved soon and often. The sooner the better and the more often the better. Wallace can get really involved really fast and buy in to the system rapidly if we can get him a couple 6-8 catch 100-120 yard games. (Consequently, if he gets frustrated early it could poison his year and perhaps drag down other team members.) It just never seemed like Torrey did that much but when you look back he accumulated some major yardage here. And to think about all those pass interference calls and to convert that to yardage and Torrey would have led the league in receiving. I can see Wallace being almost a Torrey Smith twin here and if we use him in conjunction with Perriman,SSS and Aiken we are going to have one heck of a 3 and 4 receiver set.
Lets take a look at Torrey's alleged pass interference penalties and see if we can clear up some misconceptions. Here are his DPI drawn numbers for his tenure in Baltimore:
2014: 11 penalties for 229 yards
2013: 6 penalties, 93 yards
2012: 5 penalties, 78 yards
2011: 4 penalties, 171 yards
One large takeaway is the inconsistency with which this yardage comes, as most people already recognize that banking on defensive pass interference as a quality metric for WRs are going to get letdown over time. He only drew 2 penalties for 32 yards in 2015, thus further continuing this trend.
Now, if we decided to play the game where we had his DPI yardage to his real yardage (which is incredibly flawed to do by the way), lets look at the results:
2014: 996 yards (would have ranked 23rd in the league in receiving yardage)
2013: 1,221 yards (would have ranked 15th in the league in receiving yardage)
2012: 933 yards (would have ranked 26th in the league in receiving yardage)
2011: 1,012 yards (would have ranked 19th in the league in receiving yardage)
So not only would he have been nowhere close to leading the league in receiving, he would have AT BEST ranked 15th in 2013. He was basically in the 20-30 range (with the pass interference penalties) in every other season but that one.
I also bet you only added in Torrey's DPI yardage and not the same for the others in the rankings. Well done disproving this ridiculous theory.
The more I look at this year's draft I have a strong feeling that someone trades up to Ravens spot to get ahead of the 49ers to draft Jared Goff. I do hope we get a shot at Myles Jack though.
Unless the Ravens trade up they won't have a chance at Elliott. Cowboys have made it pretty clear they plan to draft him with their second rounder if he's still available.
If there is 'a lot of talent available' wouldn't it then make sense to trade back?
Maybe the article should've been titled "20 Twitter Users the Ravens Are Embarrassed To Say Followed @Ravens".
Not sure this is a very positive thing. Kind of embarrassed that I'm part of the same group as some of these 'celebrities'.
Hope Kiper's right about the two QBs being taking early. If so, I'd be thrilled to have any of his other four top picks.

those arent "character issues"....
Failed drug test for marijuana in 2011....tried to rig a drug test and was suspended for start of the season in 2013...failure to appear in court...all stupid things a man with the earnings potential he has shouldn't do...points to immaturity and character issues IMO. I like him and think he'll do well but you must also ask yourself has he been on the straight and narrow so he can cash in in free agency to turn around start doing stupid things again once he gets the big 2nd contract?
He obviously will cost too much for the Ravens unless the Broncos have problems with their fax machine again......
I say we get Carl Nassib late 2nd (via swap) or with our 3rd rounder. He still looks like he's improving and has tons of upside. Also sounds like a Raven with his work ethic and high engine.
I'm so anxious with our draft pick, I want it finished. I want Ozzie to call me and give his top 10 on our board. I'll settle down at that point! Come on and get the draft over with and give us Bosa, Spence and Shephard (1,2 and 3)!
Forget about Spence in the 2nd...he's becoming the draft darling...I bet he goes in top half of first round.
Would it be the end of the world if the Ravens ponied up to the bar and accepted the repercussions for all of the past errors? Pay Flacco his 28 mil for the year without an extension, cut Pitta before june and absorb the full contract instead of dragging it out for years, make a decision on Monroe and pay what has to be paid if we cut him. I think it is pretty widely thought that we have too many holes and too little money to just rebound this year. People are optimistic for sure but we have issues with this roster and the future of our team. I always here that the Ravens draft for the future, plan for the future but it seems like their actions only mortgage our future. Am I making it too simplified? I'm sure someone on here will tell me. Thanks
Well, most of that is possible.
1. Technically, just isn't due $28M... he is actually only getting paid $18M, but his cap number is $28M. It remains reasonably possible that the Ravens don't touch that number at all.
2. Pitta's situation is tricky because they may just wait for a decision on retirement, which could last until training camp or the summer. They could also be asking him to take a paycut to stick around, which would work also.
3. I think we only cut Monroe if we were to resign KO. Otherwise, I see no reason to cut him.
If/when Pitta is cut it won't be until after June 1 (a lot less dead money). No way KO will be resigned. Ozzie just trying to build up his value for a higher compensatory pick next season. Why has everyone given up on Monroe? When he was healthy he did a good job. Let's hope he comes back healthy and we find a good LT in the 2nd or 3rd round. I suspect if Ramsey isn't there Ozzie starts trading down. Let's hope Cleveland and Dallas take QBs above us.
Let's forget about Von Miller for several reasons but mainly he has those dreaded 'character issues'. Check his police blotter.......
