  1. That picture of the coverage on Niko's sack is absolutely embarrassing!!! All 4 receivers run straight to their defender and doesn't even appear they were trying to get open (can tell by the result of the play). Then you have 3 guys against 1 defender; 1 OLmen against 3 defenders and 2 OLmen taking 1 guy to the ground - NO WONDER JOE GOT SACKED!!! But i guess people will only blame Joe for the sack and not even blink an eye at crappy play by the receivers and the OL... This picture is the epitome of what the receivers and OL have been doing all season!!!

Why is it that our receivers run straight at the defenders? I thought the object was to avoid the defense. It's like the whole receiver corp is doing a curl route at the same time on play after play. No coming back to get separation, no hook and go, etc. I see a lot of poor play designs. They have check-down-itis.

When he entire NFL knows your QB can flick the ball 70 yards and you have 2 deep threats defenses are going to play a deep cover 2 with zone underneath which is exactly what NE did.   They know our tendancies and were more than happy to give Joe the check down.  People act like Joe just decides to check it down, he's got to take what the defense gives him.  THEN, the flip side to that is when Joe did decide to drop it deep to Wallace he gets hammered because it was double coverage, which is really wasn't because the safety was late - Wallace just opened his arms like he was trying to catch a watermelon instead of a football.  Receivers share a lot of blame on this one!!

  3. Flacco said the Ravens were expecting to get more man-to-man coverage, but the Patriots used more zone and dropped linebackers into coverage to clog up the middle of the field.

Game plan was for man-to-man coverage and when they realized they were playing zone heavy they didn't have any game plan to combat that. AND to top it off our crappy receivers (other than SSS) couldn't find the soft spot in the zone and get open. Piss poor coaching and piss poor on field adjustment by our receivers!!!

Oh Joe was sucking despite what the misleading stat line says. Had it not been for the gifted TOs he would not have had the 2 tds. Offense could not stay on the field for more than 4 minutes.

There were receivers open on some plays. Plus with a zone you can hang in the pocket and wait for the soft spots. Remember Mattison???? Joe is too anxious and is hurting us.
There was no running game because coach hardhead neglects to run. And have you seen a two minute offense from Joe? It's like watching grass grow. My frustration is that the same problems occur and that we are not getting better even 14 weeks later.

Pats have less skilled players than we do yet they contend every year due to exceptional coaching.

Plus with zone you can hang in the pocket - WHAT POCKET?!?!?!?!?  When he did hang in the pocket he got sacked.  The OL played like ish again and it showed on the entire offense!!

Maybe, they aren't less skilled players - maybe we have the less skilled players and obviously also lack the exceptional coaching.  It is apparent that they were ready to play against us and we thought we were playing the Browns again....

  5. “The reality is that until late in the game, the Ravens offense reverted to the erratic, mistake-prone attack we saw over the first 11 weeks of the season. And Tom Brady pretty well carved up a secondary that again had to play without an injured Jimmy Smith.”

^^^ YELP that's the REALITY of it all folks!!! Marty had a good plan against Miami and the players executed it perfectly. Appears Marty had a crappy plan against NE and the players executed it crappy!!! NE knew exactly what and where Flacco was going damn near every time he dropped back to pass. One pass he was going across the middle to Pitta and there were 5 defenders in the area, one dropped back and almost had an INT. Not impressed with Marty at all!!!

We have what we have. We continue to show improvement and we will be divisional leaders if we win out. We can and have beaten the Steelers and Bengals and the Eagles will be a win also. I said we should blow this team out and considering the history, I should have known better. Joe is just an average, at best, qb. I have tried to defend him, but he just refuses to put any energy into what he is doing. I think a little sit on the bench for a couple of downs might fire him up a bit. Remember when Suggs was pushing for our own wildcat with Troy Smith and Flacco about freaked out that he was not the one under center. Lets take a couple of practices and have Mallett run the offense or let him come in on the second drive of the game. If Flacco can't motivate himself it is incumbent on the coaches to motivate him. Nothing up to now seems to work so exceptional times require exceptional measures. Will Harbaugh have it in him to do this, probably not, but that is what he needs. He is playing like a diva, he acts like he doesn't want to hurry up, that the game moves at his speed, I would let him test the speed of the bench in that case. Maybe he would study a little more film or learn how to read defenses in that spare time.

One more thing... The Hester experiment is OVER!!!! If he is still on this team at the end of this week and Campanaro isn't called up, then Ozzie and John are idiots. Its a shame the fans have known for weeks what 2 highly paid football executives just can't seem to figure out. We have now become that footnote in Hesters career where people say, yep, he should have quit while he was ahead, but he sure soaked Baltimore for a couple mil.

How will you say joe is just average.. did he miss some passes yes but on the int Wallace looked like he was trying to catch a chair I mean it looked like joe shot 3 pointer how wide Wallace arms were.. breshad perriman had  some nice catches but also missed a pass which was drive killer because he was being lazy wasn't ready for the ball. He's a first round pick he should always expect to get the ball and never look surprised when it's passed to him

Receiver's aren't being lazy - it's a product of the play calling - the play was called to go to a specific receiver, which is what happened and 9/10 when they come out of the huddle Joe is locked on 1 receiver. The only time he's not truly looking for 1 receiver is when they run the hurry up.

  7. So Weddle warns everybody on the play action fake, Elam bites on it, let's his receiver run free and it's Weddle's fault (which I know it's the safety who is responsible for deep coverage) but Elam didn't even lay a finger on his guy, just let him run right by him. I'm sorry, you can say what you want but Elam is not a very solid player and has done nothing to warrant a roster spot.

I'm very skeptical of Harbaugh's claim that Hogan wasn't Elam's responsibility in coverage. Elam was lined up directly across from him. What else would his responsibility have been on that play if he wasn't supposed to cover Hogan?

It was Tavon's & Weddle's fault. Tavon handed off Mitchell (or got beat badly) who came across the field as the underneath WR. Typically the slot corner takes the underneath WR and the outside corner and safety take the deep middle WR. If you watch the play, Elam breaks toward Mitchell (Tavon doesn't) but then realizes that Brady is throwing to Hogan so he stumbles trying to recover. Look at the play and watch Tavon - who is he covering?

They were playing man coverage at the line. You're speaking of zone coverage and they only switch depending on what route the receiver runs - if the inside receiver goes out and the outside receiver comes in then they switch but if the inside receiver breaks deep the inside corner stays with him, makes absolutely no sense for corners who are 7 yards apart to just switch receivers from who they are lined up in front of.

I don't believe either of them. Yes Eric had to get back on him, but Elam blew the initial coverage causing The Whole thing in the first place. I just don't know why they keep covering for Elam.

do you even understand what you are saying?

how can 1 blow a coverage he is not responsible for?

weddle was responsible for the deep coverage not elam.

as a defender you are supposed to stick to what your assignment is and not freelance.
elam did what he was told and weddle did not.

You say Weddle was responsible for the deep coverage; what was Elam responsible for - to just stand there and let the receiver run right by him untouched?

Nobody has a problem with what Weddle had done all season long which was move around and disguise coverages, this time it back fired but that's what happens when you gamble - win some, lose some

  10. Being down two top receivers in Gronk and Amedola along with a hobbled Bennett and no run game will make it extremely difficult for Tom Dink-N-Dunk. We have to find a way to slow their passing attack across the middle of the field. I hope Mosley and Orr are up for the task and come ready for it.

I'd look for a lot of hard counts to try and draw our guys off sides, mainly Suggs bc (who will no doubt get at least one called on him). Defense has to play disciplined because they will also be looking to get other penalties called too (cough cough Smith Sr don't let them get in your head!!!!) Will need to score quick and then establish the run and keep Brady off the field as much as possible, time of possession is going to be key in this game...

What I don't understand is... why did Miami not adjust!? Curious to see what BB does this week, can't imagine he will just allow the middle of the field to get gashed like that. Why not force Wallace and Perriman to make the downfield sideline catches, no?? challenge them that way rather than running free across the field

I honestly do not know why they didn't adjust; I'm sure Fin fans are asking the same question, much like Ravens fans have asked this very question...

I guess this settles the Stanley vs. Tunsil debate.

I think Castillo's system works when he has the right guys in the right positions, but it took us half the season to figure out what that looks like.

Castillo didn't implement his own system and it's the same guys we've had all season.  This is the 2nd or 3rd week behind this particular group at offensive line which gives it a little bit more continuity which should only get better with more time.  It's called EXECUTION - the Offensive Line blocked, which allowed Flacco time in the pocket to find the open receiver, the open receiver caught the ball and made a gain.

Like I said before, defenses know our tendencies and that's why Miami left the middle of the field open - Since day one Flacco has ALWAYS thrown the out route at the 10-15-20 yard marks and Miami was playing outside-in coverage, meaning they were not going to let Joe throw that pass.  Defenses also know that with Wallace and Perriman that we just throw it deep and hope they come down with it.  Instead, like I've been saying, we needed to use more of our receivers on the intermediate routes and let them make a play - which is exactly what they did against Miami.  This game has and will give opposing defenses problems in the future because now they know Flacco can and will attack all areas of the field - IF GIVEN THE TIME BY THE OFFENSIVE LINE

You see this type comment invites counter arguments which some people on this website will readily see as "hate on Flacco" You are essentially implying that if the offense isn't playing well to look no further than the Oline and the WRs. That I completely disagree. Flacoo played an excellent game last Sunday, but let's not pretend that he has not been mediocre WRs and Oline not withstanding.
What I think is more likely the case is 1. Flacco is getting healthier 2. He was determined to elevate his game and that of others around him - when's the last time you saw Flacco get in anyone's face like he did Wallace yesterday? 3. The Oline is jelling 4. The OC called a better game 5. The whole offense consequently played better

No, that's not what I am implying.  What I am saying is that when the offense plays like crap everyone wants to scream and shout how much Joe sucks and NOBODY wants to account for the 9 different offensive line changes he's played, Steve Smith Sr being out for several weeks and piss poor play by the OL and receivers.  When the OL plays as well as it did, then that allows Joe to what he does and that allows the receivers to do what they do.  Almost every struggling team has a weak OL, without a strong OL your offense will go nowhere!!  Look at Oakland, you honestly believe Carr is as good as he is, he and Dak have the two best OL in the league right now.  You parroted all the points they brought up on the radio but nice try.  Flacco getting healthier, healthier since the week before, really??  Getting in Wallace's face and Marty calling a better game - guess what take all of those ball them up and if the OL plays like crap then none of that even matters!!!  Flacco was able to sit in the pocket and get comfortable because the OL played as well as they did.  It all starts with the offensive and defensive lines.

    1

  14. I've been saying it all season; give Joe protection and time and he will do what he's capable of doing and this game proved it. The OL gave up no sacks and numerous times I saw Joe stand up and step up in the pocket and throw darts to his receivers. One of the biggest things was the receivers were actually getting open and catching the ball. Everyone wants to blame Joe when the offense sputters but doesn't want to account for the things out of his control. The big question is can the OL continue to play this good???

  15. I feel confident with more experience these young guys will become even better WHICH means we can competitive for the next several years!!

There are two guys who I think need mentioning as well - Brent Urban and Matthew Judon. There is also obviously something the team sees which is why Judon is not suited up every week but when he's in it seems he's always making plays and around the ball.

Just wish more of our young receivers and tight ends would step up!!!

  16. A better pass wouldn't have put him in this situation. Having to dive outstretched, making an insane grab (which he did) and the ground popping the ball out with the way he was forced to land shouldn't have happened. If he had been hit in stride, it would have been an easy score. No one should beat him up on the effort he displayed on that pass.

I agree, the ball should have been dropped in over the DB and not further out, Perriman had open field to the pylon...

    1

  17. For the record, the Ravens are 1-3 vs. the Pats in the regular season under Harbs, and Flacco has thrown 7 TDs to 4 INTs and has a QB rating of 92.0, with a 65.41% completion percentage. He's got 9 TDs to 4 INTS vs. the Pats in the playoffs, all of which were in Foxboro.

So anyone who says Flacco seems to do well against Brady isn't lying. You could argue he plays even better in the playoffs against him, and winning in Foxboro is hard enough for anyone on any regular day.

Should have two more wins in Foxboro but Evans dropped a perfectly thrown ball and the defense gave up two 14 point leads!

instead of Elam why isn't Levine out there? I saw Elam miss 3 tackles. Isnt Levine suppose to be a linebacker in a safetys body? I remember he was our secret weapon on defense. Well hes really a secret alright. Time to unleash him when we need someone to cover a TE.

I would hazard a guess that they are trying to see what they have in Elam before the end of the year. But yeah, Elam does not look good.

Elam hasn't looked good in a while. Never clearly made the transition to the NFL. Another wasted first round pick...

Joe is atrocious, I hate to sound like a broken record but the guys mechanics, footwork, release, etc.. are trash. Remember Trestman said he was going to work with Joe and get him to release it faster and all the good mechanics went to the dump to get him to get it out, supposedly to hit open receivers, who now can't get open. Face it, none of that crap we were fed worked and Marty is trying to piece together a garbage system the whole time we have a QB who can't hit the broad side of a barn and should take a pay cut to put those pieces around him he knows he needs to win. If Flacco looks at film and doesn't think he is robbing someone, then he has no morality. I would like to think he's not the I soaked you too bad you made a bad deal guy and will work that deal because it is a horrible deal for the team. He is not a good QB, he's not even a good backup NFL qb. When are we going to do something about getting him to drop his salary to get quality players or when are we getting rid of him. Has to be one or the other because people will be fired because Bisciotti isn't putting up with this for the length of Flacco's contract. Joe was borderline pre-injury (thus the elite, not elite crap) and post-injury he is 5 more years of this trash. Don't think Steves buying that.

I'd like to see you hit the broad side of a barn with 4 people 6 foot 4 and 275 to 330 running at you.

see, Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, David Carr, Drew Brees....they can show you how to step up in the picket, rool out, change protection, throw the ball away, or any of the other good decisions a QB should make in those situations.

With the exception of Seattle those other teams all have top 8 offensive lines. You make it seem as if the QB does it all by himself.

    2

  20. The NFL needs to stop this garbage. Rewarding a team for intentionally committing penalties is ridiculous. They should also stop this poor sportsmanship crap where coaches call time outs at the time the field goal kicker is kicking. It is just asinine that the NFL doesn't address these issues.

Because these are obvious non issues to majority of NFL fans, coaches, players and commissioner
