  1. I don't like the idea of signing Steve Smith at all. Smith is about to be 35 years old and the 1 year of production we would squeeze out of him would not be worth the loss of a compensatory pick. If you give me the option between a 4th or 5th rounder or a 35 year old Smith, I would take the draft pick any day of the week. I hope the ravens pick up a wideout either through the draft or through another team cutting a player so we don't lose our compensatory pick. The way I believe the wide receiver position should be addressed is through the draft. Mike Evans from Texas A&M would fit Gary Kubiak's offense quite well and has similar size to Andre Johnson. If he is available at 17, taking him would be a no-brainer. If he is off the board, the Ravens should look to trade back or take the BPA, but there is no way that the Ravens would make it out of round 3 without taking a receiver. Once the draft is over we could likely snatch up a cut free agent wide receiver like Jason Avant as a 3. There will probably be a lot of receivers still on the market after the draft is over due to the deep class this year, so rushing to sign Steve Smith would not fix anything.
