  1. I guess the Browns are just seriously "snake-bitten"! I mean they draft a ton of guys each year and still can't put it together!

It's not a player problem, or maybe not a FO problem,... it must go straight to the top - to ownership!

Since we became the Ravens, we have had 2 franchise-changing drafts, 1996 with Lewis & Ogden and 1997 with Sharper, Boulware and picking up Siragusa! Art Modell allowed Ozzie to build a solid foundation then, which bore fruit in 2000 and still serves us well today!

The Browns have has many combinations of GMs, HCs, FAs and draft picks through a revolving door and haven't been able to solidify a core in coaching, FO, or on the field. It ain't their fault,... they're snake-bitten!!!

  2. As usual,... I'm not going out there, today, on the face of it and saying we'll win the North -- I sure would love that though!  B)

What is already apparent to me, going into 2015's pre-season is:

    1. Dean Pees creates better defenses, and makes better game-time adjustments than many here give him credit for,

    2. we have year-to-year consistency on defense for the first time in a long time, and

    3. we just got younger and faster on defense!

    :oldwiseman:

If we straighten out the back 4, there's no reason why we can't be competitive and win the North!  :190048:

  3. Not having Pitta wouldn't spell "Doom" for our season; however, a player of Pitta's caliber is always a necessity for a football team.

I agree 100%,... but, we said the same about Ogden, Lewis (both Ray and Jermaine) and countless other Ravens!

When it's time to turn the page,... you know, Alaska, it's "next man up"!

  4. Now, we'll see Joe "develop" Perriman and Williams to put this noise about drops and "bad hands" to rest!

Sad to speculate that if Dennis Pitta takes the field, I'd be frightened he'll do irreparable damage to himself! Hope cooler heads prevail.

He's no longer a necessity- time to move on! :oldwiseman:

  5. Hey, Mystigo, and jacket too, you guys have to know how happy this RavenManiac is right about now. As you guys are aware, I've made NO secret about my desire for Ozzie to Finally make an attempt to get Joe, in particular, and all the rest of us a true #1 receiver. Been asking for it for YEARS! And he might have Finally just done it, and then gone out and got him, and us, the best pass catching TE prospect in the draft to boot. Man, I almost feel like someone is going to come along and pinch me so that I wake up from the dream I feel like I'm having. I truly believe that Perriman Does have the potential to be that #1 guy, man. I'm a happy camper, a Very happy camper. If I AM dreaming, please, don't wake me up, everybody!

Well, Maniac,... we definitely have some "horses" on paper and some guys who have the potential to come out of nowhere and excel with the UFA skill players,...

I too am eager to see what they do! :D

  6. Interestingly, I was "good-to-go" after we picked Maxx Williams!

I was feeling like, "Hey, Rashard Perriman and Maxx Williams- GREAT!" and ready to call it a wrap, feeling pretty good!  :D

Then, by the time Oz & Co got down to listing the UFAs we picked, I was breathless - had to grab my inhaler!  :help:

    Kidding, but still giddy! :229031_rofl:

  7. :minioiseau1: I am so excited that the draft board finally collated with our draft needs!!!! This is going to be a great year!!! Would have loved to see the look on the Steelers FO faces, when they saw that we had traded up for Maxx Williams!! :lolpoof:

     The Sky is the Limit!!!

Probably that same look we had when Cincy took Jermaine Gresham just before us a few years back! :lol3:

Good to be on the giving side for a change, eh, respecttheRaven?!

  8. The effectiveness of Koch's punts are directly related to the ineffectiveness of the offense. Think about it.. a Ravens' drive stalls at their 40yd line = a punt inside the opponents 20.

I think Sam's thunderous punts outnumber the shanks, especially when the offense has "3-and-outted" deep in our territory! He can boom a 60 yarder from the End-zone and it's gonna get caught at the opposing 40 yard line = short field!

That's what stalled drives at least need to get a 1st Down or 2, to give us field position that doesn't hurt the defense!

  9. Strengthening the defensive middle has always boded well for us!

We had the 12th best defense in the league with a patchwork collection of available players!

We had a top 5 defense that enabled our offense that operated in fits and starts to still make the playoffs each of 6 out of 7 years!

Imagine what this younger defense that's being designed and created to compete in the AFC-North will accomplish!

  10. It's obvious from last year's draft and the first pick so far, the 3 most important traits we're looking for in our picks in order of importance are:

    1. Character

    2. Character

    3. Character

You could have replaced one of those nimbers with "Captain"!

I like the choice because he doesn't have to come in "NFL-ready" but can grow into the role he'll play inside!!!

Ray even said that C.J. will need to add some muscle, just like he did as a rookie! Our defense can wait on Mosley to do his appreticeship behind Daryl and Brandon and mesh into his role!

  11. Ozzie said, "That [trade back] bonanza never came",...  and I'm left to eat my words, having insisted that we would trade back!

Trading back or out of the 1st Round didn't happen,... but the words eaten went down tasty - C.J. Mosley's a "HUNTER" in the Nest!

  12. A 3rd Rounder in 2008 who has played G, T and even 30 games at C expressly happy to be around some real pros in order to "rise and conquer", to play like a Raven!

No knock on Shipley but if Zuttah proves out as a better lineman than A.Q. then we've definitely upgraded!

Besides, think of the flexibility he brings! No knock on Gino but If we get a bona fide Center who can call protections effectively, then this guy may be the answer to our RT dilemma! :oldwiseman:

  13. ill restate this We drafted a STRONG SAFETY, i wont be surprised and neither should anyone else if we Draft a FREE SAFETY in the first round only FS expected to go in round one is HA HA

We would be dumb to draft a late round safety, thats where our current safeties came from and obviously we dont have enough faith in them for any of them to start.

so again first round - FREE SAFETY

I cannot see us paying a Free Safety 1st Round money and putting both a rookie FS and sophomore Matt Elam at SS on the field, playing in 2014! That's insane unless the guy is Ed Reed-reincarnate!

Besides, Ozzie's going to trade out of the 1st Round for more draft picks if he signs Ryan Clark and find our vet Center! There will be no incentive in drafting at 17th if we've addressed our main needs!

  14. you guys realize players improve right we dont have to spend all this money for mack Gino only had one full season as starter. he can get better and be a decent center. give him a chance

Gino was getting trampled by blitzes but, more importantly, he wasn't recognizing them and setting the correct blocking schemes!

He'll be a fine Center,... just not yet!

He  needs to season some more!

  15. The Browns have more than enough cap room to match any front loaded deal. The key is not to front load the offer but to make most of the guaranteed money come out next year (and the following year) when the Browns will have to try and resign Joe Haden, Phil Taylor, Jordan Cameron and then Josh Gordon

The game changer for Mack may come down to our penchant for going to the Playoffs regularly! Let's hope!

BTW that is one bully av, Worm! :banana1:

  16. Every year, when Free Agency ends,... the Raven FO is graded out "Above Average" at the least and typically, "Outstanding"!  :190048:

I am hoping that Steve Smith has matured from the player who squared off at team mates in the locker room because that issue, and his age, - this is a gutsy move by Oz & Harbs!  :sherlock:

By season's end if Steve Smith is as Tenacious as he's been in the past, and IF (a big "IF") Joe Flacco can find him consistently, this duo may be the connection that moves chains (like Mace did) and opens up the rest of the Offense!   :oldwiseman:

I couldn't see him him here but Steve's a Raven now so I got his back too! :th_baby:

  17. Does anyone else feel like the ravens missed out on a lot of key players. they should of went for decker, now that he is gone they should try for Sanders. if they miss out on him we are gonna be in the same stage as last year. they also should go for alex mack and cromartie (because we lost graham). also they should look for players like branden spikes. not only is he young but if we dont get smith back we are gonna need an inside linebacker.

Judging from your being identified as "practice squad", perhaps you haven't been here long! Hoping you've been a Ravens fan longer - Welcome aboard! :banana1:

As per your comment about, "Ravens miss[ing] out on a lot of key players", remember, last year was an anomaly - we were dumping players and filling slots early! Not typical to say the least!

Ozzie usually gets many of his FA signings in August as other teams begin to, reluctantly, trim good veteran players who can be had for less than the early "FA Derby"! :sherlock:

I wouldn't sweat the pace that our FO is working at FA,... I'd say we're "Right on time and doin' fine"!  :oldwiseman:
