  1. Bringing up receiving stats on Jacoby is completely irrelevant. Everybody is calling Jacoby a "playmaker". Lol. Jacoby is a terrible receiver and you wouldn't want him to be a part of your receiving core at all besides being a WR4 or 5 backup. Legitimate chance for him to go all the way for a touchdown every time he has the ball in his hands? Yes, on kickoffs. Not as a receiver. Come on people. People only remember a couple of plays. Not his overall play. You would actually want him to be our third again this year?

That means Torrey#1, Marlon#2 and Jacoby#3. And everybody complained that the receiving core was abysmal and the passing attack was a nightmare last year. Logic, that would be the same core as last year. He can dance and run. That's it. Don't sugarcoat it.

I'm sure the FO makes more moves, so I'm not too worried. He won't be a #2 nor #3, X player from FA or the draft and Marlon should be in front of him on the depth chart anyways. So it's all good. People should just know that we are paying a returner only this money, not a receiver. And that returner could've been cheaper or found in the draft. This is money that could've been spent on Daryl, Clemons, Brian DLP or whoever.

    I'm out.

Don't worry he won't be our 3rd stringer anymore. He will be our special teams ace, and reserve deep threat WR where he always makes an impact in certain situations. We are currently looking at a few free agent WRs and of course the draft is full of young studs who we could take.

We are definitely NOT done with WRs yet this offseason...once Steve Smith is cut by the Panthers he will be high on our bidding list.

  2. But how does he convert those third downs?  Things are not so simple.  Coaches get paid a lot of money for a reason.

He gets open and the QB throws him the ball...he is covered by LBs and safeties in the slot just like he would anywhere else. I understand Bill Bellichek runs a great complex system there and he benefits from having a great QB, but Edelman is the one getting open and most importantly making the grabs.

I still consider Edelman  a B grade WR and believe he will get more $ some where besides Baltimore.

  3.

    per rotoworld

The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens are interested in free agent Julian Edelman, but that "nothing has heated up yet."

The Ravens have already been linked to Steve Smith, and are apparently going to do their due diligence on every available wideout. Edelman would be a major upgrade on what the Ravens had in the slot last season, but it's anyone's guess as to how effective he'd be outside of the Patriots' system. He also has a lengthy injury history. We doubt GM Ozzie Newsome would overpay.

Exactly why I said I doubt we sign him...too much money for a B grade WR.

  4. It's a shame he's in the AFC North because he's damn good. The Browns are a competent quarterback away from competing with that defense

D'qwell Jackson was really good too, Id say Dansby is a slight improvement on him. But they won't gain anything unless they get another good ILB to play next to him...to me thats why Jackson struggled so much last year.

  5. Rookie receivers rarely ever make a seamless transition and immediate impact in the pros, AJ Green is the only one that comes to mind in recent years. So signing someone like Smith would be in an effort to win NOW, not in a few years.

Well Keenan Allen broke Aj Greenes record last year, and Robert Woods almost had 1000 yards too. If you invest in the right...NFL ready WR they could have success early. I could see a lot of WRs from the draft  make an impact this year.

  6. Veteran receivers and late round draft picks, that's all we've been doing in the past. Where did that get us last season?

Im pretty sure we won a Super Bowl under that mantra...remember Torrey Smith was the highest draft pick we have invested on a WR in FOREVER and he was the 58th overall selection. We could notch a nice WR in this years draft between rounds 2-5.

  7. I don't want Steve Smith. This year's draft has a very deep WR class and we're about to pass on some great young talent in favor of a 34 year old.

I expect us to go both routes free agency and draft. If we go with someone like Smith, Nicks, or Edelman in free agency we can invest in a WR in rounds 3-5. If we choose to go younger and pickups a WR early in the draft we could grab a cheaper WR such as , Lance Moore,Nate Burleson. or Jason Avant.
