I'm the first to say that I think fans perceptions that coaches are the problem are incredibly overblown. Nobody cares about the value of a coach when you are winning. Players get the praise during the good, coaches get the disdain during the bad... I guess thats the business.
I will throw out this thought though, but I'm not really sure how relevant it is...
At what point in the almost 20 year history of this franchise has this team had a quality offense? Stop and think about it. Hasn't offense almost always been the issue with this franchise? We're on our 3rd HC, have been through dozens and dozens of players, had probably close to a dozen QBs, and have arguably never really had a legit #1 WR in franchise history.
This isn't a Harbaugh or Flacco problem necessarily. I'm not suggesting its all Ozzie's fault either, but its just something to think about.
16! almost one for every year of the franchise, 16 different STARTING QBs, not even counting all the backups. 3, maybe 5 quality WR1's (if im generous) only 1-2 of which we drafted, none of which have hung around longer than 3 years.
i mean, we've had a few coaches that deserve some criticism, but except for Castillo, none of them are employed here now. And all this incessant whining about not promoting from within is just getting on my nerves, like...that makes zero difference.
one day...you guys will actually look at the offensive rosters over the past 18 years and realize that the new person(s) we need from outside the organization are players and not coaches.
Caldwell was not from inside the organization, he came from Indy. and you wanted to run him out of town. Doesnt matter where the OC is coming from as long as we're still talent deficient, why am i the only one that gets that?
Billick was fired because he invested in Kyle Boller. The one year the Ravens went 13-3, we had McNair. What did Billick do the next year, go back to Boller - which is what caused all the strife in the locker room. As a fan, I couldn't take any more of Boller so I can only imagine with how frustrating it was to the other guys on the team.
Flames flicker most violently before they go out.
McNair started 6 games but was terrible in '07, we had to pull him from some games. he was terrible in the playoff game we lost to the Colts the previous season. Thats why he retired immediately after.
And I don't understand why everyone wants Norv but doesn't want Hostetler. Hostetler played QB in Norv Turner's system. Norv recruited Hostetler to help him when he was in Frisco. I would say if there was anyone in the NFL that knows Turner's system, it would be Hostetler. Big deal, the 49ers were terrible and had NOBODY on offense the one year when Hostetler was the coordinator. It was a lame duck job and year - everyone knew Hoss would only be there for a year as the 49ers were looking to make wholesale changes after Norv left.
wrong guy. we have Jim HOSTLER (not Jeff HOSTETLER), who has never played a snap in the NFL as far as i can tell.
Caldwell was gone after the last game. Detroit save the Ravens from firing him.
lol no. the fans arent head coaches, they dont make decisions.
Mike Pettine's daughter ladies and gentlemen, lol: https://twitter.com/ZackMeisel/status/426389496527982592
I hope after all this time who ever it is doe not turn out to be a flop. Talk about egg on your face.
all what time? Caldwell's only been gone a little over a week.
How do you guys include someone's previous comments in a box?
<--- click the time stamp, there'll see a "quote" button
Norv Turner is a viking people...you really gotta let that go.
Not even interviewing Norv? What a disappointment
probably never got permission. ive noticed nobody ever reports an organization being denied permisison to interview a candidate.
in any case, this is the closest the Browns have ever been to being on the level with BAL and PIT...you dont capitalize on that by sending your rival and much needed OC.

those are excuses (with a small kernel of truth, because Joe DOES need some familiar receivers), and part of the reason why our offense is where its at.
we have a lot more than "some weaknesses," there's no depth anywhere in our offense and some of the starters shouldnt be starting.
skipping all the dumb stuff about the defense since we all already know that's not the problem and since the Offensive Coordinator has nothing to do with that...
yeah, because in prior seasons he had people in the secondary that 1) he was familiar with and 2) knew the offense and made plays. once again: talent deficiency.and once more...skipping the rest of the stuff that mainly discussed defense which no one was ever talking about.
