  1. Free Safety and Wide Receiver were definitely top needs, dont know why everybody is trying to treat them as otherwise. Watson we could probably do without. We'll have Gillmore (eventually) and Williams. We had NO Free safety, and only one good receiver, and he was supposed to retire last season. Pass rush isnt really that pressing a need, that's more about depth and future development than anything. Suggs and Dumervil still getting it done with plenty of style. the only time we have an issue is when one of them gets hurt. Same with LT. Monroe isnt playing badly, he's just not available enough. He's spending too much time on the medical table. If we could keep him healthy, we'd be square there. We do need more corners though. at least one. Team needs have two sources: weakness and voids. Voids are always more pressing. Its always a bigger problem to have nobody at a spot than it is to have some guys but they have this or that problem. So top three needs in my view were Safety, Receiver and Corner. Then Left Tackle, then pass rush.
  2. Week 10 was when Joe tore his ACL. Schaub came in and threw 4 picks in 2 weeks. Clausen started the next two weeks and threw 3 picks of his own. Mallet finished the last 2 weeks, and threw 2 picks against the Bengals in week 17. The turnovers didnt go anywhere after week 10 and the offense was still terrible. we only topped 16 points twice in those 6 weeks.
  3. Kamar Aiken was an undrafted Free agent who hadnt done anything but visit 3 practice squads before he landed here, which makes him a "vet" by mere technicality. if you go by his actual playtime, he was a rookie for all intenets an purposes. He got reps because he was better than everybody we had left standing. Perriman was by no means a defacto number 2, and the decision of who to plug in the lineup when Smith went down was not arbitrary, he didnt get promoted JUST because he was a "vet." If that were the case, Marlon Brown wouldve been the number 1, he's been here longer than all 3 of them and had more significant play time as well. Jeremy's first and only season on the active roster wast last season. He put up 373 yards and zero TDs. Aiken's numbers were similar: 100 less yards, but 3 more TDs, so no, Butler was not "more productive." you dont make any sense.
  4. its March. There's still a draft, several mini camps, training camp, and 5 more months of free agency left before anybody plays any football that counts. why are yall acting like the team is set?
  5. Steelers played vertical for years and had plenty of success. Eagles too. this aversion to fast receivers and vertical passing doesnt make any sense.
  6. i mean, he is one. he kinda has to now
  7. did you look at the stat sheet fro any other Vikings receiver? obviously not...because had you, you wouldve noticed that NONE of them exceeded 720 yards or 4 TDs, and only two of them (Diggs and Wallace) got more than 150 yards or so. That's because the vikings entire offense is giving the ball to Adrian Peterson. Of course wide receivers dont have impact in an offense that doesnt throw the ball.
  8. Jeremy Butler and Daniel Brown were here last season. Nobody on this roster had a guaranteed starter job but Smith Senior, EVERYBODY was a low number except for him. So all the receivers certainly got ample opportunity to work with everybody and show something. Aiken got reps because he was better than those two. This obsession you have with denying the merit of the preformance of the starters in favor of these two no names at the bottom of depth chart who have had the same opportunity as everybody else and nothing to show for it, is weird.
  9. they get on the same practice field and play in the same pre season games as everybody else. Kamar went from journeyman practice squadder to starter on his own. Smith Senior went from 3rd round punt returner runt to Hall of Famer on his own. if either of those guys actually has something worth paying attention to, they'll make it. aint no special treatment.
  10. "more pressing" is a matter of opinion. and either way, ignoring a readily available solution to a need just because its not the most "pressing" one, doesnt make sense.
  11. Joe only played half a season, and had crap weapons and protection for what little time he was on the field. there is no comparison.
  12. the fact that he's never on the field counts as a pretty big problem to me.
  13. if they have to be "given" a chance, they wont be unseating anybody. Depth charts are a meritocracy, you TAKE your chance by proving you're better than the other guy.
  14. nah. He was too expensive for the Steelers off his rookie contract because Miami had a ridiculous amount of cap space. But Miami has YET to figure out exactly what it is they want to do on offense, so they're a revolving door of players whether the players perform or not. They traded him to Minnesota. The Vikings dont do anything but give the ball to Peterson (Diggs lead that corps with just north of 700 yards and 4 TDs, Wallace's 473 and 2 was the next best, and the rest are just pathetic) so there's no way they can justify paying ANY receiver $11M since they dont throw the ball anyway. and now we're here. Nothing wrong with his character, just bad luck.
  15. a defender with the ball in his hands isnt a defender, he's a ball carrier. and yes it is. as long as you dont reach into the facemask to do it.
  16. everybody drops passes, you know nothing about his attitude; and in a competent offense with an actual identity and a good quarterback, he'll be plenty productive, just like he was in Pittsburgh. you're reaching.
  17. woooooooo! we're gonna be good again! yes!
  18. name a San Diego pass rusher.
  19. nobody cares about compensatory picks. Selections in the backend of every round havent gotten us very far in recent years. No log jam at safety either. Weddle and Hill start. Lewis (if he stays) is Hill's backup, Elam behind him. Webb keeps playing the slot and part time safety as Weddle's backup, Brooks rotates in sub packages wherever Weddle/Webb arent.
  20. How has ben ever made somebody better? Their whole offense is nine routes to fast dudes. This comment makes even less sense considering you're downing mike Wallace, who was one of Ben's receivers... And not just any one, THE one...as in number 1.
  21. Steelers o line is trash. Always has been. Last thing I want to take from them is a left tackle. That Wallace deal needs to happen though.
  22. Not just about KO though. O line is five guys... Look how those five guys we put together. Yanda is the in house blue chip. Wagner: late round draft pick, and he's fairly average. Zuttah: last minute desperation trade of some late picks after none of the other late picks and udfa worked out there. Monroe: more late round picks in the middle of the season after we couldn't squeeze anything else out of a washed up mckinnie and no one else worked out. Our o line is typically yanda and a group of cast offs or late round picks. Outside of yanda, the only good value we've had there were Grubbs and Osemele, and we let both of them walk. Hard to argue they value the o line with that kind record, they're hardly putting any effort into forming one until it's too late.
  23. That's not saying much. The defense has been pretty whack. Just because they spent all the money there doesn't mean it was well spent. We haven't drafted well or developed very much new talent. Those failures on the defensive side of the ball combined with the accepted sacrifice of a decent offense is how we ended up 8-8 and 5-11 in two of the last three years. If the offense is better, it's only cuz the defense has lapsed so much.
  24. He's not wrong. Pointing out how we spent a bunch of money on an amalgamation of 4th and 5th round after thoughts hoping they would be good, doesn't really do much to dispel the point either. Yeah they spent bunch on Yanda, but that's only because they're not dumb enough to let the only good lineman they've lucked up on in a while, get away. The offense is an aftethought in general around here. That's why we have 40 RBs and no clear starter, kamar aiken as a number 1 receiver, and a part time LT that a struggling jags squad was all too happy to get rid of.
  25. a bunch of old possession receivers, a couple washed up tight ends, and some young dudes who just arent very good.
