Yes BPA, if that's Stanley then so be it, but he's going to be one of those tackles who needs 3 years to learn how to run block.

That seems to be the truth about almost every tackle taken early in the last few years.  I wouldn't be very happy if we picked a tackle with our 1st pick.

  2. Well, they did take Mallett in the third round 5 years ago...

I don't think Garoppolo has much to do with it. Brady's going to play at least two more years for sure, which means Garoppolo will be up for FA by then. If Brady plays three more years, which is certainly possible, I don't see Garoppolo sticking around with the Pats for that long.

To me that just seemed like a best on the board pick at the time. An asset they could groom for a couple years and flip for a higher pick like they did with Cassel. I'm not sure it's even close to the same scenario this time around.

  3. Naturally Joe will restructure his contract. I believe that when it is your starting QB and both sides want to stay the player always wins big. Correct me if I'm wrong but while fans were shouting Brady and Rothlisbergers name as team first guys they actually got a huge immediate cash injection as well as a longer contract for more money. Again I may be wrong but I think they will be getting pay checks for years after they retire. Can anyone confirm?

Tom Brady will retire after 2017 season and will be completely off the Patriots books.  He signed a 3 year/27M extension with 18M bonus and 8M salary in his pocket 1st year, then 9M salary in 2016 and 10M salary in 2017. Well below what people consider "fair market value"

This on the other hand, seems like he has to stay on their roster through 2017 which may be a tall task for a guy that hangs onto the ball and takes as many stupid sacks as he does.  His cap hits carry on through 2019 season unless accelerated earlier via trade/cut/retirement.

I'm expecting us to sign Joe to a Roethlisberger type deal, Joe Linta would laugh Oz out of the room if he even mentioned a Brady type deal...

  4. Are you serious?  I can't go three or four days without someone bringing up Anquan Boldin, what a mistake it was and can we sign him back.  It has been 3 years now and people still bring up Boldin and bringing him back far more than anyone has even requested Torry return.  Torrey may be the latest, greatest, fad for Ravens fans, especially younger ones, but Boldin still has more people whining about losing him than any other player I can ever remember the Ravens losing.

And now here you are bringing it up LOL! Still one of the biggest worst FO moves no matter how you slice it. I know Mr Flacco would agree.

  5. Allowing 12 yards a game since the 49ers game... I think that is good enough for a sale. Jimmy on the other side was shutdown as well as soon as he got healthy. If we actually got a good slot corner and got pressure on the quarterback our defense could easily be top 5 again. Our defense was great at the end of the season.

Oh how we seem to have already forgotten the Seattle game, which was the worst game of the season by our defense. I'm not opposed to bringing this guy back to compete for a spot but we should aspire to have a better option for a starting corner.

  6. I know the obstacles the Ravens face to do it, but I think letting KO go somewhere else would be a huge mistake. The Ravens want a consistent, dependable, durable LT for the franchise....there he is. Monroe is good when he plays, but he has a durability problem. GO RAVENS!

Don't get me wrong here because I love the way Osemele plays but right now the biggest problem with Monroe is his durability.  Before being traded here he missed something like 2 games in 4 years.  Osemele has already missed most of a season due to back surgery and seems to miss games for recurring knee problems as well.  I don't think we can afford a deal he will command either considering we have already been feeling the cap pinch in recent years.

  7. I watched the games, never missed one and was at the Bengals game where his inaccuracy became even more glaring in person when you see how open some people were. I watched him beat Pittsburgh by having a lot of time to throw and for the most part checking it down, inaccurately I might add. That's the 31st ranked defense I promise you if Joe was back there for THAT specific game he dominates them similar to 2011s home opener. But Pittsburgh knows Flacco is 10x the QB Mallet will ever be and they would have been foolish to bait throws and not bring pressure.

Like someone just said above me, he made no throws Joe can't or wouldn't have made, and he certainly hasn't shown he can consistently make the throws Joe does make. And he looked very rattled, he threw a WR screen into the dirt that nullified a great play and TD from Butler.

The point I'm making with McCarron is he actually threw multiple touchdowns in multiple games which is more symbolic of strong play versus Mallet throwing 2 TDs in 2 games and a few picks where he's lucky it was kept to a few. Not to mention a few temper tantrums that are embarrassing considering this is from a guy that was just kicked out of Houston for oversleeping and has less career wins than Flacco has playoff wins. I get the on the team for 2 weeks but he has more starting experience than McCarron does. Poor example though because I think I could throw some TDs to AJ Green lined up against Wright, I'll give you that.

Ryan Mallet has no impact on Flaccos contract negotiations, if nothing else we have a backup that's better than Schaub.

Agree to disagree I guess. Flacco's 17 total TD's to 14 turnovers through 10 games, most of it done before half of the offense went on IR, doesn't tell a story of someone lighting it up like you suggest.  Flacco has, and likely always will be, wildy inconsistent in the regular season.

  8. Saw this earlier , thought it may be useful to some.

Over the coming months, you'll hear a lot of WRONG information about the state of the Ravens' salary cap. Our cap guru sets the record straight here, c/o Royal Farms.

2016 Ravens Salary Cap Preview v2.0

With the 2015 season drawing to a close, it's time to look ahead at the Baltimore Ravens' salary cap situation for the 2016 season at present time.

    A good read, thanks!

  9. Surprisingly strong play? I want him to restructure too but Ryan Mallet is irreverent in this discussion, he shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Flacco, he's a joke.

We probably have a 2011 opening game type performance against Pittsburgh if Flacco was starting, we need to stop acting like Mallet threw 3-4 TDs a week. It's not like he did what AJ McCarron did in his short starting period, granted way better talent, but Mallet looked terrible on Sunday and average against Puttsburgh.

So I take it you didn't actually watch the games then? Mallet made alot of major league throws out there with what little talent we still had left around him and deserves some credit.

Mallet got his first start after being on the team for 12 days while McCarron sat behind Dalton for a year and a half, give your head a shake if you think they are even worthy of comparison at this point.

  10. You're right. But, really, if you're looking for a pure pass rusher, just how important is their 40 time? I have never seen a QB line up 40 yards away from the line of scrimmage. I would think quickness, which IS different than speed, would be more important. Just a thought to ponder.

Agree completely.  The 10 yard split is the best to watch for linemen but for some reason alot of teams seem to hold alot of stock in the 40 time.  Personally I want to see a guy who can bend with leverage and turn the corner, then that closing speed is actually worth something.

  11. Please explain to me why we let McPhee walk and we have maybe 1 cover corner who looks overpaid? Or that we haven't drafted a CB in the 1st 3 rounds since 2011 (Jimmy Smith). OR that we haven't drafted a pass rusher in the 1st 3 rounds since 2010 (Sergio Kindle) (Kruger 2009)? OR that we just drafted an ILB with the 17th pick that is too big/slow to cover running backs and TE's? A total liability is passing situations unless he is blitzing. We need ballers all over the field. I haven't seen a "Great" Ravens defense since Chuck Pagano left for Indy.

I think if you look at our last 3 drafts those assets are going to start paying dividends.  2013 - Brandon Williams, Wagner, Juszcyzk, Jensen, Lewis-Moore all starting to contribute and I'm not quite ready to give up on Elam or Art Brown yet either.  2014 - Mosely, Jernigan, Brooks, Gillmore, Urschel, Urban all playing meaningful snaps with Taliaferro and Campanaro showing potential.  2015 - Max Williams, Carl Davis, Zadarrius Smith, Javorius Allen and Nick Boyle all look like good NFL players.  Now if Perriman and Tray Walker also produce last years class could be the cornerstone of our turnaround.

I've been pretty surprised with how terrible this year has went for us but I think we have plenty of talent here and with early picks in next years draft (the highest we've picked in my years watching is Suggs at 10) it could be a very quick turnaround. Just my 2 cents.

  12. Jimmy's contract is the same as every other above average CB in the league....His contract is not even close to those of top corners, great corners or even good corners. Another example of hate trading by the uninformed.

    http://overthecap.com/position/cornerback/

He is currently 6th in the league in yearly average, behind only Revis, Sherman, Peterson, Haden and Maxwell(LOL).  I think he's worth it personally, I haven't seen him picked on in any one game since Amari Cooper torched him early in the year.

But to your original point, he does seem to be everyone's scapegoat over the last few weeks for some reason..
