  1. Another option we could go with is keep Boldin, Leach and re-sign McKinnie (or a FA LT) and Pitta (maybe Dickson. I want to keep our whole offense together as much as possible. Let's build the defense up through the draft. Let's look at the needs of defense:

    DE-NT-DE

    DE:Art Jones, Pernell Mcphee

    NT: NEED, Terrance Cody

    DE: Haloti Ngata, Bryan Hall

I think we need an elite NT so we can raise the level of play with guys like Ngata and McPhee. If we have a force at NT, they will get better matchups and be able to excel in run defense AND pass rush.

    OLB-ILB-ILB-OLB

    Rush: Suggs, NEED

    Will: Albert McClellan

    Mike: Jameel McClain, NEED

    Sam: Upshaw

Ideally we want to draft an ILB. But we have seen these guys play and it would take pressure off of signing Ellerbe to a lot of money. We could get an inside linebacker or OLB in the 2nd, and get depth in the 3rd.

    CB-S-S-CB

CB: Lardarius Webb, Chykie Brown, Asa Jackson

    FS: Christian Thompson, Omar Brown

    SS: Bernard Pollard, NEED

    CB: Corey Graham, Jimmy Smith

Yay, Webb will be back! We look pretty solid at Corner. MAYBE add another one in later rounds. Pollard is solid. Free safety is the biggest hole and we will see what we have with Omar and Christian.

While I am not saying this is going to be the best defense for us, it let's us have the cap space to put forward the best offense.

As many of you might now, I am a huge fan of defense. I love defense. But I think it would be best at this point, to put the money in the offense so they can stay consistent while we replace Ray, Reed, Ellerbe (in this option), Cary, Ma'ake and Kruger.

Again, I trust the front office, but this is something that could help us keep the guys we want (with exception of Ellerbe).

This is fine and all, but what happens when some head coach needy team poaches Caldwell after next season and the glue that holds the offense together suddenly disappears. We all saw what happened when we went from an atrocious playcaller to a good one. This offense could easily retrogress if we make another mistake on the hiring Cam in 2008 level...

We can't put all our eggs in one basket. The key to winning Lombardis is balance. We aren't going to win with an elite defense and mediocre offense (we tried that for a decade). And we aren't going to win with an elite offense and mediocre defense (New England has been trying that for 8 years). We have to spread the money around and solidify the positions on both sides of the ball that need it or we are left with glaring holes at key positions. i.e. the focus on keeping Ellerbe at the possible expense of Boldin. We are deep at receiver... not so much at mlb.

  2. i do agree with you . they do deserve a chance .i just think we need more options and veteran depth while we figure out which of these guys can contribute.

The coaches see these guys practice EVERY SINGLE DAY. They are in the best position to evaluate who sees the field. If the FO and coaching staff decide that the money going to Boldin can be spent better elsewhere, and that our stable of WRs can make the grade, then we should trust them in their decision making. They're highly paid professionals for a reason.

  3. you both missed my point . if we are cutting boldin wouldn't it be better to have a PROVEN talent to replace him and not gamble on unproven "rookies" ie doss williams streeter........... what happens if they all turn out to be david reed and 4 years from now they are still developing .if doss turns out to be the next calvin johnson great but what if the indy game is his norm we have no way of knowing thats the point.

Doss is going into his third year. He's had time to learn the offense and gain a rapport with Joe. It's time to let the kid have his shot. The same goes for LaQuan and David. Both have loads of talent. Now that Cam is out of the picture I see the younger guys getting their looks on offense.

Doss was a terror at Indiana and I'm sticking by him until he shows me something to feel otherwise.

  4. But people forget that Jerry Rice's 20 yard dash (final 20 of the 40) is one of the fastest in history. Or at least, commonly perceived and well known to be on of the fastest.

So once he got separation, no one was catching him.

I love Q. But I find it hard for us to keep him, Ellerbe, and Reed together. We'll lose at least 1. Maybe even 2, sadly.

Rice admits that he was lazy. But once he got the ball in his hands it was a competition and he wasn't going to let anybody catch him. Essentially, he was a slow receiver until he caught the ball then he was off to the races. The man is the reason they tabulate yards after the catch now.

  5. Let me say this about the impending boldin cut, it was just a matter of time. We were going to have to lose somebody deemed viable to sign ellerbe, rfas, and make the necessary fa signings.

Considering, before the playoffs, boldin underperformed to his No.1 contract as a receiver, It would have been prudent to cut him anyways. And people on this very same board predicted the same thing. Boldin is slow and does not embodoy the explosive offense we will have with Joe in the future.Sentimentality is good for a month, but the NFL is what will you do for me, not what did you do for me.

And to be honest, the only position worth taking at no.32 according to many mock drafts would be a tavon austin, deandre hopkins player(providing no dts or pass rushers fall). Not te'o or matt elam. So cutting boldin is good for the draft and cap.

Guys, get ready for even more cuts.

Vonta leach, (4 mill for fullback)

    Ayanbadejo(1 mill for declining st)

Jacoby???(5 million for a 3 wr and kr)

the fo is trying to keep guys like ellerbe and make signings to preserve the longevity of the team and not to simply keep the same guys from last year. Ozzie has a plan.

    In Ozzie We Trust

I was one of them. I started a thread during the season about the possibility of cutting Boldin, extending Jacoby, and letting the young receivers compete for a starting spot. As you might have guessed, I was negged into oblivion.

  6. Watched "Immortals" last night. Enjoyed it. The wife and I love the "Sparticus" series so this fell tight in with that. Not a great movie, but if you don't take it too seriously, its enjoyable.

Spartacus is my FAVORITE show on television. Immortals probably has the same feel as Spartacus because the same producers who made 300 and Spartacus produced Immortals too.
