PFF Ranked him the 24th center. ESPN.com says this guy has only played 9 games at center. Can any find anything that says different? As a center replacement this move makes 0 sense. From a pure depth perspective this move kinda makes sense.
I love how as soon as we sign a guy he instantly becomes the best thing since sliced bread. What is telling your guys hes going to be an even average center?
The best thing about this move is it shuts fans up about about getting Alex Mack. I dont really get this move though. Sending a draft pick and picking up a 4.25 mil cap hit for a below average center. Why not save a pick and sign 28 yr old De La Puente? As much as i love Ozzie he always has one move every year that makes me scratch my head.
As much as i want another piece to our O-line, we're not signing Mack. The top centers in the league right now are averaging about a 7 mil a yr contract. Mack has a transition tag. So for us to sign him, we need to offer a contract the Browns are unwilling to match. So youre looking at around 7.5- to as high as 9 mil a year for Mack. Why the hell would you want to pay that much money for a center? So unless by some miracle the Browns dont want to match a 5-6 mil a yr contract, we're not signing Alex Mack.
Well that raps up our free agency and i couldn't be happier. I'm gonna try and contain my temper towards fans talking about signing Mack as much as i can by leaving with these words. Salary Cap!
Im sorry, but you make very little sense to me. Where are you getting that KO is smarter and stronger than the other offensive linemen and therefore will make a good longterm solution at C? How are you quantifying KO's intellect and comparing it to the other linemen? How are you quantifying KO's strength in comparison to the other linemen. What are your reasons for NOT moving Yanda or Monroe to Center? Because they're dumber or weaker? Is it just me? Or is anyone else having trouble following this guy?
I just dont get your reasoning. Move KO to center which he has never played, which leaves holes at LG and RT? Instead of just having holes at center and RT?
I get that Mack is ARGUABLY the best center in the league right now and yes I would LOVE for us to sign him, but i gotta stick with Ozzie's mantra of right player right price. And I personally would never sign a center for that much money at the current Salary Cap. But a lot fans have this mindset of sign the biggest free agent every year at every [profanity deleted] position. And then you mention the words Salary Cap and its almost as if they're response would be,"What's that? I've never heard of this concept before." For example earlier there were people on this site talking about signing Byrd, Mack, Monroe, AND Smith. Give me a break.
I really dont understand why people want us to sign Mack so bad. Unless he ends up being a Hall of Fame Center how do you justify paying 8-10 mil a yr for a center? Where am I getting 8-10 mil a yr? The top 5 centers now are averaging around 7 mil a year. Mack has a transition tag. Which means the Ravens have to offer Mack a contract that the Browns are unwilling to match. So unless by some miracle the Browns arent willing to match a 5-7 mil a yr contract its gonna cost us A LOT of money. Im a HUGE HUGE HUGE believer in games are won and lost in the trenches. But unless I see Mack as a HALL of Fame Center I cant justify paying him or any center that much money. And Im not that hardcore of a football fan to sit there and watch center play on Sundays, so i have no idea if Mack is on that level.
The main thing about Jacoby for me is, I really dont want to see him as our #2 receiver. 3,4,5 whatever i dont care. Just as long as hes no higher than 3.
I like Jones a lot as a returner, but doesnt really inspire any confidence in me as a WR. To me this is a 3.5 mil per year guy as a returner. I got mixed feelings about this one. I will say that i doubt he plays all 4 yrs of under this contract.
i agree. We were playing with 2 strong safeties and Ozzie made it clear he didnt want to do that again. So look for us to get a true Free Safety whether its someone on the roster, free agency, or through the draft.
The only true FS free agents worth looking at would be along the lines of like Woodson, Rhodes, Decoud, aaaaaannnnnnnnddddd DUN DUN DUN DUN!!!!!! EEEDDDD RRRRREEEEEEEEDDDDDD!!!!! But yeah nothing to write home about.
yes we have about 16 mil in cap room, but don't get too excited in trying to sign a big name free agent. Monroe IS our big name free agent. Put aside money for Daryl Smith and Draft signings you're looking at MAYBE 8-9 mil in cap space. And just because we may have 8-9 mil in cap space doesn't mean they'll use exactly 8-9 mil to sign a free agent. Reasons being injuries and having to sign people during the season to fill roster spots. Thats just one example. So you're looking at maybe 5-6 mil realistically on free agent spending. Hardly enough to sign the likes of Byrd or Mack or any of the other big names that are being thrown around. Think more on the lines of Edelman, Sanders, Steve Smith (my vote)if he gets cut. Or another scenario is if we dont sign Daryl back, then yes, look for another big name free agent.
