Caldwell is interviewing for the Lions HC...seems like they want him....not sure why...but im sure it had to do with being around Peyton when he won and Flacco whe he won...
I'd love for the Lions to basically help our team out here.
Caldwell in my opinion is great with developing quarterbacks and he may not be a good play caller atleast last year but he may be able to help Matthew Stafford and thier offense out a lot. I honestly don't want Caldwell to leave because he such a good quarterback coach
I think the offense should be a power offense as well, but Harb's has been running a ZBS since he got here. Our O-line is smaller and athletic, which is what ZBS requires. If we wanted to run power, we'd have to change a lot of personnel up front to really have the ideal bodies there. (Think 2004 Ravens with JO, Bennie Anderson, Edwin Mulitalo, Orlando Brown) However since this change over looks likely, this might be just the time to do that. The drawback is that those road grater type of guys tend to not be as good at pass protection. Seeing as how that was terrible this year already, might not be too much of a risk.
Kubiak would be good for the current personnel and would add some movement to an otherwise static philosophy at QB. Flacco would be running more bootlegs and using play action, which I think suits him quite well. (think about when he rolled out last year in the playoffs...he was money).
I would also like seeing Hue Jackson back in bmore. He's got an intensity and attitude that carries down to the players. He already has relationship with Joe, since he was his QB coach and he's likely got a chip on his shoulder after losing the Oakland job. Another bonus with Hue is that he's been helping game plan against the AFC north in the recent past.
I wouldn't mind Norv Turner either, since he likes to air it out deep (which is Flacco's best asset), but I think his scheme would be too similar to Cam's since they both come from the Air Coryell background.
I like Hue Jackson he really did wonders for the raiders offense when he was their offensive coordinator he also runs his offense base off the air corydell as well
Accept we didn't. Given the lack of talent on the line, any creativity in the passing game would have been limited in how much it could help Flacco because the run game was so dysmal.
More slants, more screens, more comeback routes , quick pitches to the receiver and atleast more pitches or counters for the running backs instead of calling inside runs all the time would had been much needed( you don't need to be a great route runner for these). I still don't see how it made so much sense to call plays that required our receivers to go deep for the majority of the time knowing we lack talent on the offensive line to hold up in pass protection consistently for that long.
In this league you either going to adept or get eating alive. The Bengels defense took advantage of The Ravens offense biggest weakness which is the refusal to adapt when needed. Flacco basically was getting killed out there because our offensive coordinator and run game coordinator chose to stick to their old guns instead of bringing out news ones just in case things got ugly.
We need a new offensive coordinator unless Jim Caldwell sees the light.
It's true that Caldwell was dealt a losing hand. Terrible OL play and very limited weapons at WR will handicap any OC. I think a more creative OC could have done better, but if I had to choose between a new OC and new players on offense I would take the latter.
I agree I think we had enough talent on offense to help out Joe Flacco a lot more but the play calling just wasn't creative enough . Caldwell did a good job last year but I think its obvious that he should be the quarterback coach only and a new offensive coordinator should be hired. I know the receivers the ravens have aren't great route runners but you don't always need a great route runner in order to have a creative passing attack or for the offensive coordinator to think out side of the box .
Even if we draft or sign better talent to help out the offense I don't really expect much change because right now we have a offense that's just not smart enough and that starts with the coaches .
1. I think you are referring to bunch formations, which are designed to help receivers get off of the line without being pressed and confuse zone defenders in the area. It works well when your receivers run good routes and can find the holes in the coverage shell. It all comes down to your personnel. Chip used bunch formations at Oregon a bit but with the Eagles he has two beast TEs and hyper talented receivers. Bunch is used to hide weaknesses of the offense and attack weaknesses of the defense. Spreading out doesn't do anything extra for us. You have to know why these coaches use these formations and how before you critique their work.
2. We have a system and offensive identity. The Air Coryell system and had a rugged tough physical swaggering bunch of men in every position group. We are sticking the Air Coryell despite Cam leaving because it fit our offense best this year. We couldn't fit into much else. We don't have the talent at receiver that others do. Our offensive identity has already been established but when you can't do what you used to be good at it shakes everything up. Once the run game is back in order and we get a true possession receiver on the field the entire thing falls into place.
I don't understand how the chargers can lose their two top receivers such as Macolm Flyod and Denario Alexander but still turn out to have the fifth overall offense in the league. Is rookie Keenan Allen,Vincent Brown and Eddie Royal really that more talented than Torrey Smith, Marlon Brown and Jacoby Jones ? Is Philip Rivers whom had a disaster year under the air corydell system last year really that much better than Joe Flacco ?
Keenan Allen is making noise right now in the league , Vincent Brown is a slot receiver at best with good hands, and Eddie Royal is the speedy guy whom is a good kick returner with iffy hands at times but im not sure if they are great route runners. I know they still have one of the best tight ends in the game in Antonio Gates but yet they are ranked 4th in the league when it comes to passing the ball. I think that's amazing how a offensive coordinator can do so well when he loses basicly his number one and two receivers to injuries but still produce a good passing offense but it's ashame the ravens offense couldn't do the same.
If they want to go with an Air Coryell system then Mike Martz is the best choice for that.
Mike Martz will get Flacco killed and he doesn't used tight ends in his offense as much as the ravens like to .
Kubiak is too stuborn; we already have more than enough of that. Chudzinski is worth looking at, though.
I thought Chud will be interesting as well but he likes the vertical offense and im not sure if that's whats best for our offense as a whole. The ravens basicly already run a vertical offense or should I say the Air Corydell
Calvin Johnson before they got Reggie Bush this year was the core and the supporting cast and still routinely was a game changer as he produced huge explosive plays every game. So that is a false statement sir. Jacoby doesn't do it every game, but its the closest thing we have and it is extremely valuable in this league. I hope we can retain Monroe, Jacoby and Pitta, but I just don't think Pitta deserves top tight end money. He has never had a season over 700 yards why should we pay him like he is Jimmy Graham or Gronk. 700 yards can be replaced for much cheaper by drafting a TE in the first or second round this year, it is a pretty good talent crop of them unlike last year.
Calvin Johnson is a explosive guy also one of the best receivers in the league but even he needs help which is one of reason why the lions had to find a good running back and a good receiver that can make plays when Johnson can't(they still searching for that receiver actually). I love Jacoby Jones I hope he's a raven next year but if he isn't honestly I believe the ravens will be fine.
Pitta in my opinion is one of the best tight ends in the league and he may not be explosive like the other tight ends but the guy is still great.I doubt he gets Graham or Gronk money but If he does then that's cool it must means the ravens believe he deserves it plus it ain't coming out my wallet so why should I care lol .
I mean he is good, but the salary cap forces you to make hard choices. Pitta IS NOT a game breaker or a game changer. Jacoby is. I think we could replace Pitta's production through the draft instead of shelling out cash in the ballpark of what the Pats paid Hernandez or the Jaguars paid Mercedes Lewis a few years ago. I want Pitta back bad, but I will be pissed if we pay him on par with the best TE's in the league because that is too much for him. Same thing goes for Torrey Smith for that matter, he ain't worth Mike Wallace $$$, neither is Mike Wallace.
Im sorry but you must be out your mind if you don't think Pitta is a game changer. I can't believe Pitta and Jones is even up for debate.
I don't see him getting that much out there. He's on the wrong side of 30. Either way, I see this as more of our wish list than it is what I think is going to happen. I think Jacoby could be higher.
I think since Takeo Spikes received a 9 million dollar contract from the chargers in 2011 then London Fletcher whom re-signed with the redskins this offseason received a two year 10 million dollar contract may indicate that Smith could receive the same form of contract or slightly more. I'm not sure about Jacoby Jones(he will be 30 next year) and since kick returners can't enter into the pro bowl any more it makes me wonder if it decreases their value but Jones also right now is proven he can be more than good kick returner but I'm still not sure about him being too expensive for The Ravens to re-sign
Not a blind hater, just a frustrated supporter. I had hoped he had turned the corner, but it's not just one bad game, he's dropped numerous passes and is a fumble concern every time he touches the ball. He makes bad decisions and just doesn't have good "football sense". There are reasons he went unsigned for almost two months after we released him. Tandon was resigned because we were in a bind and he has contributed as an emergency fill in. But just like David Reed he can't be trusted and I doubt that he is on next year's roster.
In my opinion I think Doss has done well for the ravens. He contributed as a emergency fill in and became one of the best punt returner also made some nice catches at times on third downs. Doss has indeed made some mistakes but no body perfect even a veteran player like Jacoby Jones made a mistake especially in the playoffs against us when he was a Texan.
When you said "He makes bad decisions and just doesn't have a good "football sense" its kinda crazy because this is the exact same thing ravens/texans fans were saying about Jacoby Jones. I think if the ravens coaches felt like Doss couldn't be trusted at all then he wouldn't be activated during games and since Deonte Thompson probably can do the same thing as Doss it must means they see Doss as one of the best players to help them win games.
They already said they won't be signing Reed so you're proposing a hypothetical.
Don't know we'd have to cut anyone. Omar Brown could go back to the practice squad. However, if we had to cut someone the vote here would be Cleats. The sooner we send him packing the better. There's no way they'll do that at this juncture. There's some guarantee money all, but at the end of his salary cap impact the position here is he'll be gone
I dont know why you hate Matt Elam but I think he's going to be very good player but thats my opinion.
Yeah our safeties are much better than last year.
Read that Little Napoleon stated the Ravens have no intention of signing Ed in any capacity. We'll just have to add that one to the litany of missteps the "managers" have made in the last year.
Of course Little Napoleon had eye-wear on. It was decidedly flowery in color.
Ed Reed is 35 years old ,he's still recovering from a hip injury to my understanding, and he hasn't been playing well at all . I would love for Ed Reed to come back but thats just me as a fan with out considering logical reason.
If the ravens bring back Ed Reed who are they going to cut ? and is it really worth the risk to sign a player whom may not have it anymore? It may be too risky especially for a player that can't play on special team and then cut a player whom can play special teams and etc.
Honestly I wouldn't mind reed coming back
Not really because the 49ers have a different offensive philosophy than then the ravens . Mason and Boldin at the time were in the don corydell offense which honestly fits speedy wideouts and really tall wideouts more than anything. The 49ers run a west coast offense which is built for a wideout like Boldin also the 49ers have speedy wideouts like ted gin and their 2012 first rounder aj Jenkins to stretch the field if neededThe way I see it, the 49ers are going to look a lot like the 2010 Ravens when we had Mason and Boldin. They now have Crabtree and Boldin. Two receivers with identical skill sets. They can't gain separation and they don't have burner type speed. They're route running possession guys and they won't be able to benefit from each other like Boldin benefited from Torrey stretching the field. This isn't going to help Kaepernick at all because he simply doesn't deliver balls like Flacco can. He throws footballs on ropes and he won't be able to deliver them in a way for a guy like Boldin to go up and get them under tight coverage. And with that Seattle secondary mugging them in tight man-to-man coverage I don't foresee those two games fairing well for the niner offense.
It sucks that boldin has been traded he meant a lot to the team especially as a leader on offense but the ravens seem to want to go younger which is understandable. I seen people say its a good thing that boldin is gone because he was slowest wideout in the league but how is that possible when he average 4.2 yards after the catch while some like Jordan Shipley average 1.9 yards after the catch and theres definitely others the average way less than Boldin

Everybody on Harbaugh coaching staff are not his BFF. Harbaugh made Jim Caldwell the offensive coordinator and they were not friends also the same can be said about Chuck Pagano when he was here. I think the friendship topic when it comes to Harbaugh can be overrated because every head coach does it . The Texans new head coach just recently hired a wide receiver coach whoms his friend
