  1. Just because a player likes a guy, doesn't automatically qualify that guy as even a decent coach. They could like their brother Mike, but it doesn't mean that brother Mike is suited to be an OC... unless that brother is the brother of John Harbaugh, that is..

But anyways, there is no secret candidate. It makes no sense for two guys to be the "finalists" if the process of finding candidates to interview wasn't over yet. This is the final step... either the wrong guy gets hired and the team goes down once again, or the right guy gets hired and we are put on the right path to the playoffs.

I saw some one mention that The Ravens wanted to hold off on announcing who the offensive coordinator  was going to be due to the Columbia Mall incident.

  2. I personally don't want Hostler to be the offensive coordinator but honestly maybe he truly is alot better than what we believe. I  do find it weird how former Ravens players such as Derrick  Mason and Trent Dilfer  are showing support towards Jim Hostler but none of The Ravens current players such as  Torrey Smith or  Joe Flacco have done the same.

  3. Super Bowl-winning quarterback, doe!

Not only that; but, am I the one who didn't want Turner to be the Ravens offensive coordinator, at all? Even if the Browns allowed the Ravens to interview him (and, let's say they hired him, as well), all it mean was sticking with the Air Coryell offense, again. Yeah, Norv Turner may have been one-of-the-best offensive minds in the game, back in the day; but, now, I think it's just name value.

The last thing the Ravens need is to continue to work with the same old offense Cam Cameron used by bringing-in one of the better Air Coryell guys. Reason being is that the A.C. is such a "flawed" philosophy that if a team doesn't have the perfect o-line and skill players get hurt, it makes it impossible for the offense to do something with the football (which was the case this year). Plus, Turner is prone to calling boneheaded, Cam Cameron-like plays and he's also the guy that ran both Tomlinson and Ricky Williams into the ground.

Luckily, I just think the Ravens dodged a bullet, thanks in large part to the Browns...

I agree and i didn't want Norv Turner either.

  4. Interview with David Elfin on the NOrris and Davis show

    "

Steve asked David for his thoughts on Shanahan possibly coming here and how it would work. David said it would really be up to Joe Flacco, while Shanahan can produce a very good running game he has also rubbed quarterbacks the wrong way. In Washington Shanahan’s “prickly personality” was a problem between he and McNabb which saw Donovan leave town, and the 2nd time Kyle was run out of town for not working well with RG3.

Ed asked about the possibility of a rift among the coaching staff in Baltimore and whether or not bringing Shanahan in would cause even more problems for the Ravens. David said that there was a rift in DC but it was mainly because Kyle’s father was the head coach and other coaches thought he might be getting preferential treatment.

David talked about Shanahan’s system and how he runs a West Coast type of offense and how that may be a problem between Flacco and Kyle. The west coast offense needs a very accurate QB which is something Joe has struggled big time with in his career and David said that will drive Kyle absolutely crazy. David noted that inaccuracy was the big problem between Kyle and Donovan McNabb

All that is understandable but why wasn't this mentioned when he was with the Houston Texans. I'm not really sure if I should really believe everything that has been said about Kyle during his time with the Redskins but maybe his head did get too big since he was working  for his dad.

I think that is a understandable situation because he's working for his dad whoms is  the head coach and he may have felt like he was untouchable; His thought process could have been well I am the man  and I can say or do anything I want because my dad is the head coach. In all honesty I personally have probably felt bigger then I  (in my younger days) was and this was only me walking down the street  or in the car with my uncle whom I thought was the coolest, toughest, and smoothest man on earth.  I felt like  i was  big time  and probably said things I wouldn't have said  by my self but overall we all  are humans  and all learn from our mistakes.

Kyle won't have daddy next to him if he's hired by The Ravens and theres no telling how much he has improve as a person because im sure it hurts to be fired. If Kyle isn't hired well there all ways Kirby whom I think may be a big surprise (in a good way) but we shall see.

  5. Thanks for the info didn't hear that.

I felt the best offensive hope/fit would be Turner then Kubiak but the HC has his vision. Not to say I agree with it.

You really think the Browns were going to allow us to have Turner? The Ravens were interested in Kubiak but I think he wants to take  a season off to get healthy  besides he still getting paid by the Texans.

  6. If we hire kirby, a running back coach hy trade, isn't that a conservative move? I mean we've just paid our qb 120mil.

I think if I dont begin to see more creation, expansion, explosion or whatever you want to call it on offence in regards to our passing attack I think I might actually believe we have overpaid our qb based on the simple fact they aren't actually giving him the keys to the car, not his performance.

I'm not sure if its a conservative move  and I know he's been a running back coach for most of his career in the nfl but he has been a wr coach, qb coach,  and passing game coordinator at the college level.  Overall just because Kirby WIlson is a running back coach doesn't mean  he's going to be conservative offensive coordinator or  refuse to give the keys to  Joe Flacco. Jason La Canfora on twitter reported that  the titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt  was high on Kirby Wilson as a Offensive  Coordinator candidate.

I know Wilson wasn't hired or even intreviewed by Whisenhunt  but it's pretty interesting to know Wilson was on the titans radar. I think Whisenhunt  has a pretty good offensive mind and to know he had interest in Wilson may mean this isn't some typical running back coach.

  7. The Browns are talking to Kubiak and the Cowboys to Linehan.  And I have to believe this delay in announcement means there's division among who wants whom for the job.

I saw Aaron Wilson on twitter saying that Kubiak had no interest in being The Browns offensive coordinator.

  8. If Hostler get the OC job I want Jimmy Robinson as our new WR's coach. This guy's one of the best there is and apparently he was at the Senior Bowl letting teams know he wants back into coaching after taking a year off. He's coached guys like Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and Dez Bryant. Even if Hostler didn't get it I would much rather have Robinson, though I doubt that happens.

I thought he was still with the Cowboys but that would be great. He's obviously a upgrade over Hostler but just like you I doubt it happens.

  9. I heard from Luke Jones that Kirby Wilson was handling  a little more  of the  offensive game planing responsibilities   for the Steelers during the later part of the season.. I heard it from wnst audio vault  where it saids Luke Jones (WNST) joins Glenn for a Ravens report on OC search . link

  10.

The thing that worries me about Kirby is that yes, they all had to stop somewhere, but I'd imagine the vast majority started in college, not straight in the pros.

I understand your point and  I'm worried about Kirby as well because I have no idea what type of offense he would run . One thing for certain is his  knowledge of the air corydell,  west coast offense,  and ep system. He still overall a mystery but such knowledge may be  a positive for our offense especially considering that we been wanting a offense coordinator that  can change things up when needed.

  11. Kirby, Hostler and Shanahan apparently. I was listening to the fan, they said those 3 guys. I don't know why Scott Linehan is out but these are 3 terrible options. Shanahan has an ego issue and I have heard nothing good about him. Hostler can't even get his receivers open, failed in San Fran and has nothing on his resume that shouts he should be an offensive coordinator. Kirby has never done it before.

Honestly. IF we pick one of these guys and fail, at least Harbaugh will lose control if Biscotti is true to his word. The guy doesn't do well bringing in coaching personnel.

I think Scott is out because he's too pass happy and the Ravens may be looking for a offensive coordinator that  wants balanced. The ego thing with Shanahan in my opinion  will not be a problem  and honestly you can say the samething about Josh McDaniel but it doesn't change how good  he has been as a offensive coordinator for the Patriots or the Broncos. Kirby  may have never done it before but just like other offensive coordinator they all had to start some where; It may say alot that the Steelers wanted him as their offensive coordinator before his fire incident.

Hostler well theres really nothing much to say about him lol.

  12. There are obviously some numerical things to knock Kirby on, but if he really is an Arians disciple that's a big enough mark against him as it is.  I've established my dislike of the Arians offense, and given the sorry state of the offensive line that's only going to make things worse.  It's another offense focused way too much on deep throws.

Your right. I just figured since the titans were reported to have interest in him as offensive coordinator he would be running a different type of offensive scheme.

  13. So if it's down to Kyle and Kirby, I'm taking Kyle. Yes, Kirby is a good motivator, but that's why we have Harbs. I'd rather have Kyle's creative mind.

I think it may be alot more to Kirby then we know. He may be  creative  like  Kyle but  brings more of that leadship/ toughnes  that every body on our offense may benefit from. I personally want Kyle but Kirby may be better but we shall see.

  14. Yea that's the thing about having a unknown, us fans just don't know enough. You'd think he'd put a heavy emphasis on the run, but he might actually feel that you gotta win with the QB, bring in a QB coach that can help him coordinate the pass game and produce an explosive balanced offensive attack.

I like the fact that he's so well respected and he's a teacher of football. He's never been a OC at any level, so I wonder if the Ravens liked what Hostler brought to the table as a game planer last year and might actually have him work with Wilson much the same this year?

Sssshhh don't say that name such a name should not be spoken lol but maybe the ravens do like Hostler as a game planner,  I like Kirby Wilson  as well and knowing that the Steelers were going to promote him  to offensive coordinator until  the fire incident is good to know. The Steelers have had some pretty good offensive coordinators in the past such as Ken Whisenhunt, Chan Gailey,Mike Mularkey, and Bruce Arians .  I still like Kyle  but I wouldn't mind Kirby which is strange cause i know nothing about his style of offense lol

  15. At some point this whole Harbs and friends thing goes from funny to down right sad. Please tell me one coach in the last 10 years that has been hired as a HC and didn't surround himself with other coaches heMs worked with and are familar with.

Did you ever think that Caldwell was promoted mid season with the hopes of actually winning this thing called the Super Bowl and it probably wouldn't have bee a smart idea to make wholesale changes with only 4 games left in a season? I mean if your goal is to win a Super Bowl, why force your players to learn a entirely new system

Lastly why would Harbs look to control the offense when he has absolutely no experience there, but allow the defensive coach to have full control? At least he spend some time as a DB coach.

I dont buy into that buddy stuff people say about Harbaugh and its pretty crazy to me. I'm overall afraid that Harbaugh may be afraid of change. Our offense in general needs a change and I dont mind Harbaugh wanting a physical offense that can take the top off the defense  but change must happen. As a head coach or even we as people can't expect to make it to the next level if we are afraid of change.

We have seen what change can do  especially when Cam Cameron was fired then Jim Caldwell became the offensive coordinator which eventually lead us to the super bowl. I don't know who the offensive coordinator going to be but I feel like this a big decision to determine if our offense will evolve  for the better or stay the same for the worst.

  16. Source? Hostler never worked with Turner or Martz.

Torrey has greatly improved and it's not arguable. I brought up Deonte because he was a horrid route runner in college, but training camp reports said that his route running improved a ton. Yeah you gotta take it with a grain of salt, but he's improved.

Derrick Mason said it the other day on WNST, not while with the team, for what it's worth.

yes he did work  with Norv. Norv Turner was the 49ers offensive coordintor in 2006 and   during that time  Jim Hostler was the 49ers quaterback coach.  I found that here link and here link . The martz information  well I found out that I was wrong  and him and hostler didnt work together . I look at the information wrong  also Hostler ran  west coast offfense with the 49ers.

  17. Our game plans weren't the reason the offense was bad. The offensive line was the reason the offense was bad.

Maybe Caldwell knew he was in our plans and left him be? Maybe they didn't work well together? Lot of potential reasons.

Our offensive game play was predictable and vanilla. I think i have said it so many times but even Greg Cosell pointed out how vanilla our offensive passing game was especially when the run game is not good. Its very important  when your running a air corydell to have a solid passing  offensive line . The last game we played in  against the Bengels we sent our receivers torrun long develop route with no slants or any other plays that required Joe to get the ball out fast and it overall got Flacco sacked consistently. Jim Hostler was apart of that game plan and im sorry i don't want another offensive coordinator that refuses to help his quarterback out.

  18. If and only if it's the AC, then I will flip crap.....

Just no... No more. A west coast system with an occasional deep play would be good for the offense

Hostler runs  a air corydell type offense and he learned the most from Norv Turner and Mike Martz whom both run a air corydell type offense.

  19. Never said he would do a better job here. Insufficient data. And yes, what we have is a bit better than what they had in 2007. Play calling and scheme this year was mostly good, aside from a few blunders.

I understand the want to get a fresh face, but Hostler might not be as bad as some think.

Yeah, maybe. Like I said above, insufficient data to judge Hostler.

Guys I know it's the popular thing to bash Hostler but you should probably be reasonable and look at all of the facts. Look deeper than the surface, I know you can do it.

I'm being very reasonable I dont see how a guy that help Caldwell last year with developing offensive game plans should be rewarded. He basically contributed to our offense down falls and I'm not even sure how much he  contributed  last year during our super bowl run. I just dont see how he should be qualified to be our offense coordinator and if he was such a  potentially good offensive coordinator but had  a bad showing with the 49ers due to bad personnel then tell em why didn't Jim Caldwell request to interview Hostler for the lions offensive coordinator job?
