I cannot take another season of Joe peeling himself off the ground. Monroe was a massive step in the right direction. The thing that upsets me the most is that $10 million this year will be significantly less in a year or two when the salary cap jumps by $10 million plus each year. I'm starting to feel Peter Angelos wearing off on the Ravens
Ozzie always sticks to the motto of right player right price. Monroe want's 10 million and he's not worth that much money,
So, what about Satele? Does he have anything to offer?
He could be solid back up center but he wasn't really that good for The Colts as their starting center and he has trouble staying healthy.
He's serious; and hate to admit it as a Ravens fan, but there is quite a bit of truth to what he is saying
Yeah he does speak some truth but what he said about Ozzie is crazy in my opinion.
Arming oneself with the facts is a better way to go about it than accusing another of being mistaken.
We gave up a 4th and 5th rounder for Monroe. Losing Monroe to Free Agency gets us a consolation pick back, making it a 1 pick loss. There's talk that consolation pick could be a 3rd rounder which would more than wash the value of the surrendered picks away. Though dubious of that, this fan thinks it will be a 4th rounder.
Edited....though consolation picks apparently come at the end of the round and are less valuable.
Monroe does not pass this fan's Lock Up Left Tackle test. Not even close. But if one thinks letting Monroe walk would be a mistake, all this fan can say is that Oz has made a ton of mistakes the past two years and it's one reason we are languishing. That said, letting Monroe walk wont be a mistake to count against Oz. It would help demonstrate he's got his wits back about him.
I really dont understand where you get this from and Its like you not serious but you are serious .
I don't think he'll underachieve, but I don't think he is, nor ever will be, a pro-bowl/top-5 talent like Jake Long or some other tackles are/have been. His best years in the league are already behind him, so whoever gets him will be getting what's left of his prime and the downslope of his career. Which is part of the reason I think this is dragging out - the front office will just not pay him a top salary and run the risk of his play declining significantly at the tail end of it ala Jamal Brown or Marcus McNeill.
Huh? Monroe is 26 years old
Serious
Let's say you don't have all the Raven's game Tivo'd and can't review Monroe's games.
Then try this one on...
The Jacksonville Jaguars draft Eugene Monroe 8th overall in 2009.
Concerns like "PFF" rate Monroe as the 3rd, 10th and 10th best LT's in the League in his first 3 years.
Then in 2013 The Jaguars use the overall 2nd pick to draft? You guessed it another LT, Luke Joeckel.
Shortly thereafter the Jags trade Monroe to Baltimore and insert the draftee into his LT spot. Unfortunately for them Joeckel goes down with an injury.
Joeckel did not come cheap but ask yourselves this.....What kind of thought processing has a team draft their LT of the future and 4 years later draft another LT of the future?
Obviously Oz rated Monroe high in 2009, but then so did the Jags.
All doubt is removed if you study the films.
I think theres very logically answer to that and at the time Luke Joeckel was one of the best players to draft for The Jaguars. Joeckel has the potentials to be just as good or even better than Monroe and he will be cheaper. Why wouldn't they want to draft him? Teams don't mind re-singing players to big deals but if they can go a much cheaper route such as through the draft by selecting a player in which they know will eventually provide the same production or better then best believe they will not mind letting a solid veteran player go .
If the Ravens right now had a much higher pick in the draft then the need for Eugene Monroe wouldn't be as high because they will have a shot at drafting a top left tackle like Jake Matthews or Greg Robinson. The Cheifs drafted a left tackle by the name of Eric Fisher knowing they had a solid left tackle in Brandon Albert and to my understanding both the Jaguars and cheifs had plans to re-signed their veteran left tackles( Brandon Albert and Eugene Monroe) but I think the contract talks went no where and it just made the need for them alot less since they already had very capable future left tackles whom will be alot cheaper and possibly better or just as good.
I
that's exactly why I would rather just throw $6m per year at Alex Mack.
if Monroe gets $9-10 elsewhere, we can take that $3-4 we saved and put it towards another OL.
I understand what you mean . I hope the Ravens can get this deal done with Monroe because it really isn't easy finding a solid left tackle as it is finding a solid center.
Wait a minute.........even though D. Smith couldn't stuff the run he was a tremendous pickup at the cost.
That is not going to be the case with Monroe.
Monroe must go.............or be signed at Value with an eye to replacing him quickly in the draft.
Where do you get this stuff from man lol. I know you can't be serious
If the Ravens can't get this deal done with Monroe well I guess that means they have to bring back Micheal Oher or draft one of the top left tackles in the draft such as Taylor Lewan
There are 15 players way higher ranked . 4 qbs clowney, barr watkins are 100 percent certainties to be top 14 picks. I am certain ebron will be there for us at 16. Also plenty of indemand o linesman. In such a loaded draft no doubt ebronwill be there. I dont think the patriots will trade up 13 places.
I think it depends on how the combine goes and if Ebron has a great combine then his stock goes up. He's already being compared to Vernon Davis and theres a possibility that a team like the Falcons or Bills drafting him but overall all I'm saying is anything can happen. The draft is always full of surprises but we shall see .
If we use the franchise tag on him, I will be upset. He isn't Jimmy Graham, Gronk, Tony Gonzalez, Julius Thomas, etc. The reason we need him so much is Joe likes to
stare downlook his way a lot. Talent wise he isn't worthy of the 11 million dollar tag. We will have to look elsewhere for a security blanket for Joe.
In other news, Boldin is looking to be getting a 2 year deal with San Fran. Glad to see he is posting solid stats again. His numbers in Baltimore were terrible. Didn't get enough targets.
Boldins production in Baltimore had nothing to do with targets but more to the fact that our offensive coordinator(Cam) didnt use him properly or should I say he was a better fit for a west coast offense( a offensive system we didn't run until now). The last time Pitta was fully healthy as a starter he had 669 receiving yards and seven touchdowns and theres no way in the world anyone can convince me it's not possible for him to have even better production than his 2012 season with Gary Kubiak as the offensive coordinator. I'm not saying he's worth 11 million dollar franchise tag but he definitely should be re-signed
No..they will be. Certain actualy.
Nope not really a trade can happen at any time and its highly possible that a guy like Ebron would be gone before the Ravens are on the clock. I really dont expect Ebron and Amaro both being available by the time the Ravens are allowed to draft. I can see Ebron going to the Bills and the Jets or Patriots trading up for Amaro . Overall anything can happen theres always a what the heck why that team draft so and so when they have so and so moment in the draft.
Pitta is 29 and is looking for his first payday. Draft amaro or ebron. Sign a wr free agent. 2nd round go for an o linesman. Resign monroe and daryl smith.
Theres no gurantee that Amaro or Ebron will be there by the time the Ravens are on the clock .
If it's Kirksey, he's coached a number of WRs throughout his coaching career.
http://www.houstontexans.com/team/coaches/larry-kirksey/93587bb9-fdd5-4fca-857a-2dbd6fa8c4a2
Kirksey would be cool but there are others that would be good as well such as Mike Sullivan or Jimmy Robinson .
John was going to give him the job, Steve said No....
Where you saw that at?
This will be an amazing staff if we get it done:
Offensive Coordinator - Gary Kubiak
Quarterbacks - Rick Dennison
Running Backs - Bobby Turner
Tight Ends - Brian Pariani
Wide Receivers - Larry Kirksey
I would take Larry Kirksey out and add in Jimmy Robinson
I am excited about the arrival of Gary Kubiak, I think he can have a really positive effect on our offense. The great thing for me about this hire is that we are pretty much committing ourselves to running the football next year and that is something I really wanted us to do. Kubiak's offense in Houston was built upon the running game and frequently using play action to open up the passing game, that is a formula that I think can work really well for us.
I wasn't that excited by the prospect of having Kyle Shanahan or Jim Hostler as offensive co-ordinator so to pull Gary Kubiak out the bag at the last minute has really brightened my day. I feel more optimistic about next season already.
Nice job, John Harbaugh.
I just hope this doesn't mean there wont be any no huddle or sugar huddle in which Joe Flacco excels at or also mean less control of the offense by Flacco.
Hmmm I wonder what does this mean for Hostler? I know he really wanted the offensive coordinator job and it probably hurts to be passed up twice by outside guys like Caldwell and Kubiak for the offensive coordinator position.
Perhaps, but if Kubiak gets a head coaching job, who's to say he wouldn't want Shanahan on his staff?
He may want to have Shanahan on his staff but Kubiak loves calling the plays on offense no matter who the offensive coordinator is. Shanahan wouldnt receive as much credit as a play caller and overall have as much freedom to do what he wants on offense.
Jim Hostler must feel like Robb Stark during The Red Wedding right now.
I know it hurts but if he still on our coaching staff I hope he's able to get over it.
That would ease my mind a little. Harbs is one season removed from being a SB champion and missed the playoffs for the first time in his carreer and then just barely. I think it would make the Ravens look like a dysfunctional organisation, if the FO would turn on John this sudden.
I don't think the Fo has turn on John
wow this is a big surprise
I do want Kyle as the offensive coordinator, and I do want Dennison to be involved in some way with the offensive line/running game, but that still leaves the question of who would be the quarterbacks coach? I think they most definitely need one.
I think they gave him every chance to win the job, and a last minute interview like this shows he did not win it.
Theres some good options out there for the Ravens to hire a good quarterback coach such as Mike Sullivan, Jim Zorn(this might not work ) and the texans former quarterback coach(i forgot his name)
I think John is the best version of what a Greg Schiano type of coach can be. They have a certain player type (aka'd the Schiano men, those personality-free dolts who work really really hard but have a relative lack of natural ability), they're control freaks, and they ultimately have comparatively low football IQs. Jim's a toddler, but at least he understands the game and scheming around his player's strengths. I respect him for that.
I can see the similarities but in my opinion I dont think we really know how Harbaugh really is. I know for one thing players love playing for The Ravens and it seems like they truly have fun especially when they do that jersey swap thing when you have Suggs wearing a Justin Tucker jersey in practice and etc. The idea of Harbaugh being a control freak may be true and maybe his football IQ is low (I doubt it) but I think he's alot more than we know.

If The Ravens don't re-sign Monroe then they probably will bring back Micheal Oher.
