  1. I don't think it will be too awful.  Though, if we low-ball him I'm sure he and his agent will just try to get a one-year deal.   Then he will probably be more expensive the next season.  Don't make the mistake we made with Flacco.  Just pay him a big deal now so it doesn't get bigger in the future.

We still need another tight end though.  They usually go late and I'd love to get the best one in the draft.  Considering our only other needs are re-upping the offensive line.  We will probably need a RT and C this offseason as well.

  2. We do an EXCELLENT job at drafting stud WR's...

Most productive WR's we ever had has come from other teams, ie. D. Mason (Tenn), A. Boldin (ARI) Q. Ismail (MIN).

Not only would we have to replace a glaring hole at WR immediately, but PR/KR too. Would we really want Doss back there again? Not me. I hope they can re-sign Jacoby for another year until we can find an legit replacement.

"Glaring Hole"...not really.  He produces a big play here and there but that's it.  The only reason he is seeing real action is because Marlon Brown was injured.  Jacoby has reached his peak so we aren't losing too too much.

With that said, I still want to keep him.  However I do not value him over Monroe, Pitta, D. Smith and Arthur Jones.  If we have money left over, yeah, keep him.  But those guys will be much harder to replace than Jacoby.

  3. It was great at the time and the Ravens were excited but, 4 years later, who looks better?

We still had Gaither though so I don't think the need at LT was so overwhelming. Oher kept falling and they thought he was a steal.

True but you can't just look back at a draft and say we missed by not taking a certain player.

  4. We had a shot at him, too. Traded up with the Pats to get Oher smh

We were desperate for a Franchise Left Tackle and Oher was literally the last guy with any potential on the board.  Plus Suggs was entering his 6th season and was only 25 at the time.  We just signed him to a big deal (or he was still franchised)  He entered the NFL very young.

  5. Ha. I think you will find you are in the minority in thinking in that. You really care who our number 3 WR is? We got faster with our starting 2 Wide outs and we will utilize more 2 tight end sets. That is not a downgrade, it is an upgrade. Torrey and Jacoby were getting a lot of attention in post season which in some cases helped Q get open a lot.

Omar's nick name given to him by the defense is Baby Reed. You need to get on the field to actually show what you got.

So, if you want to be short sighted, than yeah, I guess that was the worst comment of the day. But we need to stay young so we can compete every year, not dump money into aging guys who are a shadow of themselves.

Jacoby Jones couldn't play second fiddle to Andre Johnson. You really think Torrey is going to help him? I think you, along with most of the fans, overestimate our players.

  6. that may be stretching it. i would give him 2, MAYBE 3 years. A long-term deal wouldn't have been a huge deal, really.

He was set to make 7 million and they wanted him to take a 2 mil pay cut. Just give him a 3 million base salary with a 4 million dollar signing bonus and another 3 mil base next season. That way he gets his 7 million this season while still being the 5 mil hit that they wanted. Yes this guarantees him another 2 million next season but that's a small price for what he is worth. He could easily play two more seasons.

  7. They looked pretty good in the preseason, but they didnt get actual PT because Cam never used more than 3 WRs, and the only WR who got any meaningful snaps was Doss. No, he did not look horrible. He actually got open more frequently than boldin, but he was really underused because he was 4th on the depth chart.

They look alright against 3rd string talent. Deonte Thompson actually showed me he had the best hands out of them all. And no, Doss was not open more often than Boldin. All the passes to him were extremely forced and he dropped most of them. Boldin is far and away better than Doss.

  8. Well it's a risk you have to take. Let's not make Boldin out to be something he isnt. In three years he has never had a 1,000 yard season. He has had 14 TDs in 3 seasons. He has been overpayed for 3 seasons, and if he didnt go into beast mode during the playoffs this wouldnt even be a discussion.

There are tangible reasons why the FO doesnt want to keep him at hsi current price. I'm not exaggerating when I said he was the slowest WR in the NFL. You watch the film and and he does not get separation from any CB worth his salt. He is physical and has incredibly strong hands which allows him to out-position defenders and make tough catches.

The young guys have to be given a shot, to know what we have in them. Maybe we draft another WR too because after this season Boldin will be gone either way.

They have opportunities in pre-season and practice and nothing too great has come of it. Doss looked horrible in his playing time he received. Streeter and Thompson are the ones I'd like to see but we need to wait for the preseason.

  9. Dont forget about Streeter and Thompson too. We have a lot of young WRs that have potential, but havent the consistent opportunity. Ozzie and co see these guys at practice where we cant. We wouldnt just cut Boldin if there was no one to play behind him.

There are people behind them but they aren't as good. I want to give Streeter a shot, Thompson too, but there are no vet receivers on this team to guide them. Also we can always give them a shot but what if they don't work out? You'd be begging for Boldin back.

  10. Ozzie and Harbs are the biggest advocates in the league of the "next man up" philosophy. We'll need to see Doss, Jones, and lil Q to step up. I'm going to try and have faith in Ozzie, but I'm skeptical of that group.

But you guys know as well as I do, every time Ozzie scares the crap out of us like this, he almost always makes up for it. We'll see how it goes, but for now I'll abide by our favorite mantra: In Ozzie We Trust.

Our FO always waits until the last second to pull the trigger. I doubt they cut him. Doss Jones and Quan are nowhere near Boldin. Probably the biggest issue is he doesn't get separation which forces those lob back shoulder throws, but he catches them 9 times out of 10 so it shouldn't be any problem.

  11. had it not been for boldin the ravens would have been one and done in the playoffs . then there's this who will take his place ok let's use doss who can only catch two balls in a season let alone make touchdowns in clutch moments. or david reed ,,,,,,,,don't get me started , we have recievers that can't catch period cut them and pay boldin.

Unfortunately we don't pay players for what they did in the past. That's why the Patriots are so successful. We pay players what we expect from them not what they have already done.

  12. "I'm not chasing a championship" is a bit discouraging. Nothing tops your first ring, but who wouldn't be thirsty for two? Is he not motivated?

I think the word "chasing" is important. I'm sure most guys are satisfied after they're first ring when they get it at the end of their careers like Bobbie Williams. A guy like Torrey Smith who got it so early is probably looking for multiple rings but Boldin has been wanting this for so many years. He lost in a Super Bowl and being that close probably made the hunger grow.

He probably wants another one but is satisfied with the one that has eluded him his entire career.

  13. Deleted original thread content.

Well it looks like Boldin has been traded to the 49ers for a 6th round pick. Chump change in my opinion. I'm surprised he wasn't offered an extension. I can see this one biting us in the butt.

It saves a lot of cap room but we just completely disrespected a veteran player.
