  1. Don't be so superstitious. This is reality. It's not like if we sign Pitta he will suddenly break every bone in his body or become the worst football player. Our past success with contracts should have nothing to do with this. It's like saying we haven't had a ton of luck drafting receivers (before Torrey) so we should never draft receivers. It's just dumb.
  2. I don't think it will be too awful. Though, if we low-ball him I'm sure he and his agent will just try to get a one-year deal. Then he will probably be more expensive the next season. Don't make the mistake we made with Flacco. Just pay him a big deal now so it doesn't get bigger in the future. We still need another tight end though. They usually go late and I'd love to get the best one in the draft. Considering our only other needs are re-upping the offensive line. We will probably need a RT and C this offseason as well.
  3. "Glaring Hole"...not really. He produces a big play here and there but that's it. The only reason he is seeing real action is because Marlon Brown was injured. Jacoby has reached his peak so we aren't losing too too much. With that said, I still want to keep him. However I do not value him over Monroe, Pitta, D. Smith and Arthur Jones. If we have money left over, yeah, keep him. But those guys will be much harder to replace than Jacoby.
  4. The thing is, he isn't a necessity. More of a commodity. Doss is a good returner and has played well at receiver so far. Marlon Brown is only in his first season and is already becoming a major component of this offense. I'd like to have him back, but there is no reason to break bank just to keep him.
  5. I mean....yeah. This isn't a new idea or anything. But it won't go away due to the amount of revenue it brings in. Speaking as a fan, it's nice to have a game to watch on Thursday.
  6. True but you can't just look back at a draft and say we missed by not taking a certain player.
  7. We were desperate for a Franchise Left Tackle and Oher was literally the last guy with any potential on the board. Plus Suggs was entering his 6th season and was only 25 at the time. We just signed him to a big deal (or he was still franchised) He entered the NFL very young.
  8. Jacoby Jones couldn't play second fiddle to Andre Johnson. You really think Torrey is going to help him? I think you, along with most of the fans, overestimate our players.
  9. Worst comment of the day. I have zero faith in doss and reed. Christian Thompson and Omar are OK guys but no where near Ed Reed caliber.
  10. He was set to make 7 million and they wanted him to take a 2 mil pay cut. Just give him a 3 million base salary with a 4 million dollar signing bonus and another 3 mil base next season. That way he gets his 7 million this season while still being the 5 mil hit that they wanted. Yes this guarantees him another 2 million next season but that's a small price for what he is worth. He could easily play two more seasons.
  11. 3 year extension? Boldin is good for another three years.
  12. They look alright against 3rd string talent. Deonte Thompson actually showed me he had the best hands out of them all. And no, Doss was not open more often than Boldin. All the passes to him were extremely forced and he dropped most of them. Boldin is far and away better than Doss.
  13. They have opportunities in pre-season and practice and nothing too great has come of it. Doss looked horrible in his playing time he received. Streeter and Thompson are the ones I'd like to see but we need to wait for the preseason.
  14. There are people behind them but they aren't as good. I want to give Streeter a shot, Thompson too, but there are no vet receivers on this team to guide them. Also we can always give them a shot but what if they don't work out? You'd be begging for Boldin back.
  15. Our FO always waits until the last second to pull the trigger. I doubt they cut him. Doss Jones and Quan are nowhere near Boldin. Probably the biggest issue is he doesn't get separation which forces those lob back shoulder throws, but he catches them 9 times out of 10 so it shouldn't be any problem.
  16. Unfortunately we don't pay players for what they did in the past. That's why the Patriots are so successful. We pay players what we expect from them not what they have already done.
  17. I think the word "chasing" is important. I'm sure most guys are satisfied after they're first ring when they get it at the end of their careers like Bobbie Williams. A guy like Torrey Smith who got it so early is probably looking for multiple rings but Boldin has been wanting this for so many years. He lost in a Super Bowl and being that close probably made the hunger grow. He probably wants another one but is satisfied with the one that has eluded him his entire career.
