  1. The board didn't work in our favor for offensive purposes this year.  It seemed every time we were on the clock an offensive player of need (with the exception of Howard) got taken.  So would you rather reach out of draft position, or take the what fell to us?  It's not like we stockpiled  dbs or positions we didn't need.  I like all the picks so far. Would it have been nice to get that offensive playmaker yea but like said we are a rebuilding team.  I believe we can still compete this year, truly contend next.

dixon looked really impressive today and lewis has did well run blocking at least when he covered for stanley at tackle even if not at guard (i find it harder to tell)

it could be that next year our bookend tackles both come from this draft class and we end up running dixon right a lot behind yanda and lewis

on the other side of the ball we've found good players at each level of the defense which always helps with depth in pierce, judon and young so im hopeful in this draft

i dont want my eyes to get bigger than my stomach but considering we havent seen anything from correa or kaufusi for obvious reasons i know i shouldnt ask for more because we've already got so many good players from this draft but i cant help but imagine how good this class will look if those two also develop how ozzie envisions

Yea Dixon was my favorite pick in the draft.  Now if we could just draft a replacement for Zuttah and another big corner opposite Jimmy we could be ready to make a push.

  3. Looking like a great draft from Ozzie.  See 3 studs already in Stanley, Pierce and Young.  Then Lewis, Dixon, Judon have shown a lot of promise as well while on the field.  If no one else panned out from this draft that's 6 starters right there.  But I still have hope for Correa and we haven't even seen Kaufusi yet.

Pretty standard based on what I've seen other coaches do. Had no issue with taking the penalty.

What was not standard on that drive was jumping offsides on 4th and inches, as if no team in the league has ever tried to hard count their way to a first down. Wasn't even one guy... it was like 4 guys, including Suggs, the most experienced defensive player on our entire team.

Pretty standard where? Back Sebas up and make him kick a 45 yarder instead?  Hes one of the best in the game you dont do that with how shaky our secondary is.  Horrible call.  Going for 2 that early as well.  We get that one point we're driving to win instead of driving not to lose

I still don't think Dixon will make difference until The Ravens offensive line figures how to block effectively .

And that's the difference between backs like Forsett and Dixon.  Dixon often makes the first man miss so those no gainers will look like 2 yards and 2 yarders like 5.  If he's healthy of course we will still see a difference.  Don't forget the big play factor as well.

I got kicked in the calf when I was playing football.  I immediately dropped to my knees and I was out for almost 10 days.

Oh it hurts for sure, lol but nothing too big to worry about

Loved the body slam tackle by Elam.

Judon is a beast and I hope a keeper.

Feeling a lot better about the running game with Stanley Dixon and West making their presence felt.

Interesting to see who gets the back up qb spot.

Liked what I saw in Canady for first time on field.

What happened to Wallace? Was he ever targeted? Don't recall.

     Forssett should be worried.

Camp makes the team even if it's only on K/R and P/R duties.

The first team didnt do too much deep, thats where I expect Wallace to really make his impact.  All the underneath stuff Aiken and SS will get the load of

    1. You need to adapt the formula, because the formula we used 10 years ago to win isn't a formula that can win long term in this league. I get that fans look at last years Broncos team and say "o well all you need is a great defense and you can win", and yeah, that's true. Except the problem is that you need to create a defense like that continuously, which isn't sustainable in the modern NFL (as the Broncos are about to show you, and as the Seahawks have already shown you).

    2. The moment we gave Joe a large contract in 2012, fans immediately should have gotten on board with the fact that its a QB driven offense and that we will live and die by his play. The longer fans ignore this or spend time dreaming of what was instead of what is and what is going to be is going to be a problem ONLY for those fans, not for the Ravens. In general, there's two types of team in the league right now... teams that have a franchise QB and win games consistently, and teams that don't.

    3. I'm not a huge Trestman fan either, though I think he gets a bit of bad press. However, you also have to take into account game flow and score when you factor in how often we pass vs run. In games that we are down in the 4th quarter or are even getting blown out of (there were several of these last season), running the ball simply isn't going to work that well.

If you look at the pass/run ratio of all the NFL, there's only four NFL teams last season that ran the ball more than they threw it (Bills, Panthers, Vikings, Seahawks), and three of them had elite defenses (not a coincidence).

There were 12 teams who threw the ball at least 60% of the time, and of those, only two teams on that list made the playoffs (Steelers and Patriots). Conventional wisdom would say that its not a good approach, except again, it doesn't take into account the scoreboard and game flow. There's a lot of teams in that 60% category who finished with poor records, generally reflective of poor defensive play as well. Of the 12 teams who threw the ball 60% of the time, 10 of them finished in the bottom half of the league in total defense. Only the Ravens and Patriots finished in the top half.

    4. Its great to spend a bunch of picks on defense, except one draft was never going to fix the problem. Every realistic fan should expect this to be at least a 2-3 year project to rebuild the defense, and its unreasonable to think it would happen sooner that.

Great post.  The league is changing, if anything we were one of the last teams to try and adapt. That's why we're behind at the moment.

Why is Crockett the guy you would get rid of?

This is just if we were looking to trade one, I think he's the one we would get the most value out of.  But I wouldn't mind any duo of Williams Gilmore and Boyle going into the future.

No, but Crockett could be. But I'd keep him and Maxx at all costs. Could be a lethal duo.

I keep Maxx at all costs and let Boyle and Waller continue to develop this year while Watson and Pitta get the load.  If the market is out there for Crockett this is the time to get value for him.

  11. Why so many negs on OP, do yall think objectively or just based on faith everything will be perfect? (Which it won't)

Agreed with a lot of the draft grades which showed to be a very solid draft.  Looking at the pick you have to be utterly biased not to believe Correa has the most bust potential. His size, where he got picked, the fact we picked 2 pass rushers who look immediately better after him?  He'll have to show the most out of all our rookies which I don't think he'll live up to.  Dixon too was my favorite pick, Allen last year.  I honestly think Forsett should be on the bubble cus I want to see both of these dudes A LOT.

Lineup wise I don't think Pitta should be cut unless his play shows he doesn't have it anymore.  Stanley should start at LG until ready to takeover for Monroe cus I think Wagner will bounce back.  This was a very good offseason by Oz and co and I dont think we're done yet.  This team is 11 win, deep playoff material.

  12. Utter made-up nonsense.

Since Flacco entered the league he has 67 games (including post-season) with a QB Rating of 90 or better.  There are only 5 QB's with more than that in the same time span: Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, and Peyton Manning.  4 out of 5 are unquestionably going to the Hall of Fame, and Rivers has been in that conversation as well.  So only played at a high level in a handful of games?  Not true at all.

He doesn't make other players better, they make HIM better?  Are you for real?  Flacco has been working with undersized receivers over the age of 30 and on the decline as his #1 for his entire career, except in 2013 with Torrey Smith, who is clearly not an NFL #1 quality receiver, and this year with Kamar Aiken, who isn't even in the same ballpark as Torrey Smith.

You want to be overly critical of Flacco because of THIS SEASON?  When he had a few games with a healthy Steve Smith Sr (who happened to have a serious case of not being able to catch in the end zone) and a few more games with an injured Steve Smith Sr, and more than half the season including the rest of it will be without him at all.  He's got 5 undrafted players and a guy that has only been here a few weeks and wasn't with this offense during training camp and pre-season, who couldn't get snaps in St Louis (possibly the 2nd worse receiving corps in the NFL this year, and we're so bad that we're picking up THERE scraps!).  He's got 2 rookie tight ends and a 2nd year tight end who was never supposed to be a receiving threat.

Crockett Gillmore is having a great year.  This is not a player that was supposed to make Flacco look good, he was a blocking tight end coming out of the draft.  Suddenly he's a good receiving threat, and you give him all the credit AND discredit Flacco by saying he's being made to look good by the receiver?  If this were Tom Brady, you'd be saying "Wow, look at Brady making Gillmore a great tight end receiving threat!"  But since it's Joe, you give Gillmore credit for making Flacco look good, rather than the other way around?

Kamar Aiken couldn't catch a single pass when he was in Tom Brady's system.  Why didn't Tom Brady make him "better"?  Oh, but I guess it's Aiken who is making Flacco look good, not the other way around?  Well, this is besides the fact that Aiken DOESN'T look good, and is making Flacco look WORSE than he is, because Aiken  ISN'T good!  That's why Aiken couldn't do squat on the Patriots, with Tom Brady, a system and player who are adept at making the most out of anyone, but Aiken just isn't good enough for them, but here Joe is with Aiken as his freaking #1 receiver.

Flacco's stats even look worse than they should because his receiver let him down a lot. He leads the league in two dubious categories: TD passes dropped by the recevier in the end zone, and pass completions where the receiver was tackled within 1 yard of the end zone.  Joe could easily have 20 passing TDs on his stat sheet right now if his receivers were actually even NFL average in the red zone and could get that extra yard for a TD, or hell just catch the ball when it comes your way in the end zone.

A lot has gone wrong for Flacco this year and he's working with the worst receiving corps in the NFL, but you want to put all the blame on him and give him none of the credit and say that his receivers make HIM look good.  That's such a joke.

While I agree with most of this, Flacco isn't as good a qb as most Ravens fans make him out to be.  With a team lacking leaders since Ed and Ray retired there's no reason why he shouldn't be the voice of this team.  He could use more time in the film room, and if he is putting in that work it isn't evident in a lot of his reads and choices of audibles. In fact I think his accuracy and arm strength make a good number of his throws that aren't open look like good throws. Maybe that's due to the fact he doesn't organize off season workouts with just him and his receivers, which I also think is unacceptable for an 8th year quarterback (yes injuries have played a huge part).  With that said I do believe Flacco is a good qb that can make that step to be a great one.  However he is holding himself back.

  13. And what happens if our #1 overall pick is a bust? Then we tanked our season for what?

Can't do anything about that.  Picking a good 10-15 picks earlier each round though gives us a higher chance of landing the players that would usually be gone when we select.

  14. you must have rode the bench then. Real athletes have passion and never accept losing regardless of the circumstances. Forget the draft position. Yes it would be nice to draft high but you always play to win and let the chips fall where they may. Pro bowl players are found in the 6th round ..and there are top 5 busts all the time. You just never know.

Because my view point differs from yours? Like it or not we're a team that is in need of a rebuild year.  A top ten pick could put us back into contention.  Especially if Smitty and Suggs are done.

  15. There already has been a thread about this. You always play to win. I always want to win. Anyone who has ever played sports in life will agree imo

I've played sports and I still disagree.  No team gets better through mediocrity, if we finish 8-8 this was a lost season.
