I don't understand why we would need to remind a OC to get our weapons more involved. Its not like we are having so much success that we didn't need them! I don't get why we are not playing to our offenses strength and recognizing what we drafted for. We have a QB with a very strong arm and as a result we drafted WR's who can fly to take the top off of a defense. (This is our strength - this is what we drafted for and what we build our offense to look like). This will also open up a run game that has struggled for much of the year.

I don't understand why our head coach is not demanding our OC's to work within the team philosophy. I am not saying that Harbs should be a dictator but I am saying that all the coaches need to be on the same page and that is Harbs job to ensure that.

I just feel that he allows his assistant coaches way too much freedom to work outside of our the teams philosophy and as a result we have had a team (for the last 2 plus seasons) that is very unsure in their identity.

The Patriots identity is very clear- Short passing game
The Packers are an up tempo offense
The Titans philosophy is to run the ball
The Raiders have become a big play offense
The Broncos are a ball control team (using balance)
The Bills are a run first offense
The Steelers are that big play offense / that is set up off of the run
The Colts are an offense that loves to spread the ball out
The Seahawks are run oriented / ball control team

    I can keep going

What is our identity? I really don't know. One week we try to be a big play offense, one week we try to be a spread the wealth, one week we try to play long ball, one week we revert back to the short passing game, one week we are no huddle-up tempo type offense, the next week we are a slow it down / grind it out type- we seem to have no clue who we are and it shows with a lack of consistency and at times a lack of understanding of how to call plays to build towards our game plan.

Hard to call plays to build towards our game plan when we are not sure what we want to do. We lack an offensive identity and as a result we lack an offense that we can count on.

I am not saying that Marty is not the right guy... I am saying that Marty needs to held to making his offense work with in the parameters of our philosophy. If he cannot do that then we need to find an new OC... if he can and has a clear direction... I think we will see this improve.

The last time we had a clear direction on offense was with Kubiack. It was very apparent that he had a game plan and that and that his philosophy was clear. I couldn't guess what our philosophy was since and it shows in our performance.

Harbs needs to hold his assistant coaches to fitting into our team philosophy and lets see what happens.

I think our offense's identity is 3 and out.

    (sorry, just venting my frustration)

  2. baltimoreravens.com already hyping up a practice squad player - kind of similar to what they were doing this past Summer saying that the younger receivers (e.g. Marlon, Aiken, etc..) were ready to take over for Torrey and Jacoby- lol... i wish this young man success, but I'm not drinking the purple kool-aid that these reporters are drowning in. I wish there'd be truthful articles about our past five drafts to see how they've compared with other teams, etc... injuries are just excuses.. good coaches make players regardless

No need to drink the Kool-Aid my man, just watch him play.

  3. What I remember about Joe's first game in Pittsburgh is that before the half, Flacco threw a TD to Mason, but the refs called it out of bounds. No one said anything or made a big deal about it, but the replay clearly showed Mason was in, and it should have been a TD. If Harbaugh challenged it, he definitely would have won, but he chose not to. We settled for a FG, and they briefly mentioned that Mason was in bounds during the halftime show, and that was the end of it. Deciding not to challenge probably cost us that game, which could have cost us home field, which could have cost us the SB.

Somethings never change. Let's face it, we're not one of the darlings of the league, never have been and never will be. Just the way we like it!

    Go Ravens!

  4. Just what is it with so many of you in regards to Renner? "He never got the chance to blossom." Wrong! Renner has had Every practice this season to show our coaches that he has the potential to "blossom", and he has Not done that. He's had Every day in practice to show that he was only a better option than Schaub or Clausen, and he has not even been able to do That. Our coaches see him Every day in practice, so I believe that they have a Much better idea of his abilities than we fans, who saw only a tiny bit of him against weak competition in the preseason. And even then, he only had a few plays, maybe one Good drive, again, against 3rd & 4th stringers and lesser players than even that. Ryan Mallet has shown far more ability in a Much larger body of work. Of course, he acted extremely immaturely in that fiasco with the Texans. I will not defend him in the slightest about that. But, I will Not be one of those kind of people who will not consider giving a man a chance to prove that he just might have learned a lesson after making a terrible mistake and getting cut for it. Everybody deserves a second chance. Personally, I am hoping that he Did learn from his mistake, and has grown up because of it. The guy Does have some talent. He's 6'6", just like Joe, and has a very strong arm, just like Joe. He's not Joe, of course, but I think he will prove to be our best option as a backup to Joe next year out of the guys we currently have, or Had as in Renner's case. And everybody who is So convinced that Renner can be something special, well, let's see if he gets a chance to prove that elsewhere or, even, still here. Who knows?

How many times did Daniel Brown, another fan favorite, get put on the practice squad and then get released again? He was someone that showed a lot of promise in the preseason against 3rd and 4th stringers and is now having success against starters. It may be the same with Bryn Renner, and a lot of us would like to see him get that chance.

  5. Come on, people, he's the back-up to the back-up. You were expecting maybe Peyton Manning? And the article did say they were considering signing Bryn Renner to the practice squad. At this point we need bodies, and all the "good" candidates are long gone. Whoever mentioned Kaepernick should know he just had surgery so he isn't available.

I don't think anyone is expecting Peyton Manning. I think people here realize that the team needs a long term, viable option as a back up. Schaub is a one year stop-gap that everyone hoped we wouldn't need. Whoever gets the job as the new backup is auditioning for the backup position in the future. Right now that guy is Clausen and his past performances suggest that he isn't very good. What we saw of Bryn Renner in the preseason was pretty good with a lot of potential to develop. Is he the answer? Maybe, maybe not, but I think most of us agree that Clausen certainly isn't.
