I think part of the reason we had such great success was that the strategy Ozzie has used to evaluate prospects over the years hasn't changed. It had been far ahead of the rest of the NFL, however in the past ten years the league has changed how they look at college talent and it has put them on the same level, which means that we no longer get those guys that slip to us that have produced in the past

I think the likelihood of us picking Cook is about the same as us trading the for Luck. Zero. Moreau was a guy I liked last year before his injury, haven't watched much of him this last year to see how he's recovered. Smithson is a guy I liked based on the work he does off field in the community, but after looking closer on the field he's nothing short of unimpressive, but there's worse ways to spend a 7th round pick

This is the mindset that I think the team has taken. Which is why we have such a dearth of young talent. Ozzie has always been a value guy, which was great when he had the best strategy of evaluation of talent, however in recent years with the playing field being much more level the value strategy seems to hurt more than it helps. We're so afraid to "overdraft" a guy that we don't take the gamble on talent. Just like last year in round 2, we'll never know if KC was the actual target, but who's to say we didn't miss our guy by trying to get him at his value and getting the extra picks?

His name is actually Anthony Smithson, but Fish has been his nickname for as long as he can remember but refuses to tell the story. But all in all seems like a great kid off the field enough to warrant a look

While we're talking about S, has anyone looked at Fish Smithson from Kentucky? Grew up in the area, and is still giving back to the community here. Seems to really have a good head on his shoulders and is a playmaker between the lines

I'm tired of trying to get excited about guys we take by having to convince myself that having a guy who is at a position that won't have much of an impact, but is marginally better than someone at a position that would step into a need

As much as it would be nice to snag Davis at 16. I think the team is going to look at the depth, and we're going to be "excited" by building the trenches with BPA in the first three rounds and wind up with a WR that no one is talking about on the last day

It seems to me like there is much better value in the mid-rounds for WR than there is for any other position in this class. Getting a guy like Ford, Kupp, Jones, or Stewart in the third seems like a better value than Davis or Williams in the first.

I think closer to draft day, especially after the combine we see Watt projected in the 20s. And I don't see Orr retiring suddenly creates a "need" at ILB, I think The KC project should be ready to roll. Everything we heard last year out of camp is that he looked good and was playing loose and fast until the incident with Pitta, and I think that caused him to shrink away. It's bad enough we had to sit a second-rounder for a full year, let alone him not be ready this year

FWIW the cbs big board seems to be more "realistic" at this point

It is always interesting towards the end of the draft season to look back and see how opinions have changed about players. Certainly the quick mocks in succession and quoting the OP make things unbearable when trying to sort through multiple pages of feedback

I'll say what I said last year. Don't get me wrong, Harbaugh is a damn good coach and he'll probably have success where ever he winds up at next. The difference between a good coach and a great coach is the ability to change the message and keep your team motivated. We always hear about his different mantras throughout the season, but I think the message is getting dull over the years and isn't translating with the vets on the team. As much as I hate the Patriots and The hoodie, he's a great coach who has always managed to motivate his players at all levels despite his longevity. If you look at the draft history since he got here, we've drafted 5 pro bowlers, 2 of which didn't make it as a Raven, and 2 more in Flacco and Rice drafted the first year he got here.(Another fun fact, since the team came to Baltimore, we had 21 first round picks, 14 of which were selected before 2008. Of those 14, 10 made it to the pro bowl, since Harbaugh arrived out of the 7 picks we've had only 2 make it to the pro bowl, Flacco and Mosely) We all try and give him slack for lacking playmakers, but I have to wonder how much he is involved in the draft and how much of that is also his fault. He won the super bowl 4 years after joining the team with a roster of talent which was built mostly before he got here. Since then the roster has been overhauled and he's had his guys in here we're 26-28. As much as he's done for the team I think it's time to move in another direction.
