I would like to have Boldin here again. He would have to play role as our number 3wr though cause Smith Sr and Perriman should be locks in the 1 and 2 spots. Aiken is really good though so if he comes back we shouldn't need Boldin. Smith Sr, Perriman, Aiken, and Boldin would give Joe a core of Wrs that he would be very comfortable throwing to. Boldin and Smith are also very good run blockers so I could see them helping the run game out a lot when they are on the field. Perriman with his speed running down the field to keep the safeties attention and boldin and smith blocking outside corners. Could really open up our running game especially with the talented running back core we have now.
Ko, tucker, cox, jeremy Butler, klay, Ryan jensen, west, Dan brown, and aiken. And shareece wright. Cut Eugene Monroe though and restructure Flaccos deal sooner rather than later.
I like the guy. I think he has potential to fit in well with the guys and our system. He plays really great technique. He doesn't hold guys much and he knows how to get his head around and swat at the ball. Besides that first game he played for us he was great. I think adding a guy like Ramsey will really help us in the secondary. With Smith and Ramsey at CB1 & CB2, Webb at FS, Hill at SS, then having Wright at CB3 or "Nickle" they have great potential to be top 5 secondary fully healthy. I would like to see them add a pass rusher but if they cant get Bosa Id rather see them draft the best CB/S available and then add pass rush depth through the other rds.
Frazier is a tremendous addition to the coaching staff. At some point please schedule jugs practices to help our DBs hold onto some balls, we easily could have doubled our interceptions if they held onto a few more balls
I agree man! Jimmy Smith alone should have had about 6 or 7 interceptions. I think I saw him drop about 5 or 6 interceptions this season. he dropped 2 or 3 of them in one game! Will Hill should have had like 3 or 4. Our free safeties wont catch any footballs cause they just tackle guys when the ball is still 15 yards away. That tackle I saw Lewis make against the Bengals our last game was embarrassing the ball wasnt even close and he tackled the wr out of bounds! No only do they not catch the ball they also dont even look for it. Very very poor technique this past year. But they did play very good technique wise the 2nd half of the year. When they try to look for the ball they get burnt, when they try to cover the guy and not look for the ball they make dumb penalties. Hopefully Frazier can make them feel a little more comfortable. When they draft Jalen Ramsey this year I think the secondary will get much better. Ramsey, Smith, Webb, and Hill as our starting 4 secondary players sounds awesome to me.
Very well said. Objective and as true as it gets. We need Monroe back ASAP. He's hasn't been playing great but certainly is playing 10 times better than whoever backs him up. Max playing slot could really help us if he can break in and out of his routs. its mid-season and he should be getting the hang of it by now. I don't think hes ready to block (size + technique) as that takes more than 2 months to bulk up and change technique but that's why Boyle and Gilmore are getting more playing time. Deep passing would really open up the field for us but lets not get too pass happy after tearing up a horrendous Chargers secondary. Take 3-4 shots down the field each half but lets not make it a habit unless it cant be stopped. I'm more concerned about offensive efficiency. We cant have 3 and outs because our Defense cant stop anyone 10 times in a game. We need to hold opponents to 6-8 possessions a game by sustaining long drives killing the clock and wish for the best.
I think if Pitta returns we probably see him converted into more of a slot type TE cause Idk if his body can handle blocking on the line like that anymore. If he plays as a wr he can slim down more and play at a lighter weight and he is still big and strong enough to block out on safeties and cbs. Pitta is still better than probably most of our wrs right now. They will find a way to use him if he feels good enough to play again. It would also allow Williams to focus more on learning the game and bulking up without feeling pressure to have to contribute. I think the run game is going to improve 2nd half of the season. Really hoping to see 2 TE sets and running the zone stretch run scheme from that cause thats what we ran 70% of the time last season and we ran play action out of it too. Its the only real noticeable difference between Trestman and Kubiak. Kubiak runs everything out of 2 TE sets. Trestman likes 3 wr sets because he is more of a natural pass caller instead of running the ball. Having Gillmore and Boyle who are both good run blockers on the edge could really open up the choices of holes for Forsett to run through.
What does this have to do with the quote you responded to?
My post somehow got mixed up. The post that it is saying I responded too is another post I wrote before that one. Must have mixed it up. Thanks for taking the time to point that out to me. Lol
WR....
He would be good in the slot and be a big improvement over most our wr because of his big frame and great hands. But if he stays at TE he immediately jumps over Williams and Boyle bc of his experience and it allow Williams to focus more on his weight training cause Williams needs to bulk up a little bit before next season.
We can def use him in the slot wr role. He excelled as a hybrid TE/WR when he did play for us. But the TE aspect might be too much on his lower body now. Kelce on Kansas City reminds me a lot of Pitta before the injuries.
People have to calm down. Lol Im just as upset as any fan that our #1 pick isn't playing and that we haven't really gotten a real reason about why he is taking this long to heal. But I would rather the Ravens be overly cautious and not rush him back bc we have seen so many players get rushed back from injuries just to have their ACL tear 2 games later. Not all rookies make fast impacts on teams. I think we are so use to our top picks contributing in year one that when a guy like Perriman doesn't get to show his talents we assume he is already a bust. Jimmy Smith had a rough first couple of seasons and until his injury last season he has been one of the best corners in the league. Perriman, Williams, Boyle, and Buck Allen with a full offseason with our ravens fitness trainers and taking a breather to realize what it takes to be in the NFL will do them good. They have all shown a lot of their talents and they will only get better. Perriman was already moving up the depth charts and was suppose to be our #2 possibly #1 wr before he was injured. He is still very talented. Its not his fault his knee is causing him problems. Its just an unfortunate situation to be in and I bet he is just as mad as everyone else.
I just want a real update on Pitta and Perriman. They always treat injuries like they work for the secret service. The fans are the reason they all get paid like they do and it would be nice to actually know how these important players are really doing.
Dean Pees isnt the problem though. And who else is better suited to run our defense midway through the season? Pees is a veteran coach and coach a couple superbowl winning defenses. Im pretty sure the problem is with some of the players and lack of talent that he is dealing with. Remember we have a lot of young players and practice squad type of players that are playing for us right now. If anything Pees has done a good job with the talent he has had playing. We've had #4 and #5 safeties and corners playing in a lot of our games. We trade for some better guys and they get hurt. Unfortunate circumstances.

Givens was good on the Rams. He played really well then the Rams signed some bigger names and drafted some more wrs with higher picks. I think the guy pushed down the charts because of the value of the other players. If you invest in a couple 1st and 2nd rd wrs and you have had a reputation of losing like the Rams have had recently then front office is gonna pressure coaches to play those guys. Givens has showed his talent with us already in just 3 weeks so I expect him to play well for us. Him and Joe seem to have a feel for each other now. That effort on the back shoulder throw at the end of the game last week was a great example of that feel. I think he is gonna have a big role in the 2nd half.
We traded for one guy not 3. The rest were picked up off practice squads and the street
We need a WR because of a few reasons. Aiken and Brown have proven that they are not starting caliber at this point in their careers. That leaves this team with 3 below average starters (Aiken, Givens, Brown) that make plays here and there but cant be depended on for a whole season. The running game will suffer as we will face more and more stacked boxes and eventually Flacco will get killed standing back there trying to buy time.
You know what happens if one of those guys gets hurt? Flacco is screwed! We need a Vet WR now! If nothing else, Its the only way we can really evaluate how good or bad of a season this was for Trestman as a coordinator. Best case scenario, this Vet WR can play this year and then eventually lose his place to Perriman whenever hes up to speed and SSS if he comes back.
Don't worry about losing draft picks. We have drafted 28 guys in 3 years and are projected to have 12 next year. We literally don't have enough roster spots to fit 12 rookies without cutting ties with people we drafted recently. I say go for it Ozzie give up a mid to late round pick or two for a Starting Caliber WR
Your right. They have made a couple trades but i forgot the other guy was a DB. I have faith in Givens though, Flacco seems to like those speedy quick guys. 2nd half of the season could start showing some good signs of improvement. Despite the woes of our Offensive line, mainly offensive tackle, Flacco hasn't taken a ton of big hits this season. Im hoping we see some double TEs sets and some more quick routes like slants, out routes, in routes, drags. If Flacco can connect deep 2 or 3 times a game then defenses will have to play their safeties back further and that will open more holes up for the run game. Right now I feel like Givens is our best wr because his skill set fits Flacco best. I wouldnt be opposed to seeing Max williams move out in the slot and have Gillmore and Boyle lined up on the line of scrimmage. Many possibilities that they can change up for the 2nd half. Cant wait to see the adjustments.
They need to stick to their MO for how they build a contender. They draft heavily on the defensive side with a few underrated FA steals. But we need to dish out the money for a Wr for once. We need a guy Flacco can trust and throw too for more than 2 years. We should have some space in offseason to work with for the cap. Cap is increasing by bout 10mil and we have a lot of dead money coming off the books and depending on how much they rework Joe's deal we could have a decent amount of cap.
I dont even know if it is worth trading for a wr now. We dont have enough cap space and we have already traded for 2 or 3 guys this season already. We would have to trade for someone that is a #1 type guy. We already have a team full of #2 and #3 guys.
You fans that want to cut Brown after Ravens have 4 WR on injured reserve. A guy who stays healthy, drop two balls all year, and had to lose throws due to Steve. "One in the hand beats two in the bush". Get a better receiver coach and secondary coach.
You gotta be kidding? Marlon Brown has failed during every opportunity. He had a couple chances today to make plays and dropped a pass and couldnt catch the other one. Givens and Ross seem to be playing a lot harder and they seem to have a feel for Joe. Brown hasnt done much at all this year. You can look good in practice but it only matters if it translates onto the field during gameday.
1. Cut Marlon Brown, trade for wr.
2. A lot more 2 TE formations like last years team used
3. Yell at players more often (Ray Lewis speech, Pees speech)
4. Get Chris Givens more involved
5. Hire Ray Lewis as coach to fire these guys up every week.
Those personalities kept a winning vibe in the locker room, Harbaugh got rid of guys that had that fire to put their teammates in check. I'll take all those players over a coach that can not coach their personalities. It's his way or the highway now we're left with a losing way. Plus Harbaugh straight out lie with no cut, arguing with chip kelly, which I liked, then said he didn't. Saying he didn't have a dog house which he did, he was brought in for discipline it's done now we need someone to come in for winning with mixed personalities.
He didn't get rid of those guys bc of their personalities. They were cut or traded bc they weren't helping the team. Ed Reed was declining and still wanted to be paid as a superstar. He went on to play for 3 teams and was cut from all of them. Bernard Pollard could hit and was a leader but he couldnt cover anybody and kept getting personal foul penalties. Nghata was traded because he wouldnt resign with a better contract. Steve Smith is one of the loudest voices in the entire NFL and Harbaugh loves the guy. You cannot say it was Harbaugh wanting just his players.
A quarterback I compare Flacco to a lot is Phillip Rivers. He is also one of the most underrated quarterbacks throughout the year. He is always dealing with a bad offensive line or bad receivers the last couple years. Keenan Allen has finally woke up and they are doing better and he has Antonio Gates. This year he is doing better somehow even though their offensive line got destroyed with injuries again. But like last year when their offense had no speed it struggled. Both are underrated with what they do.
Agreed.
Another bonehead move by Harbaugh, cutting Melvin. The kid was undrafted, stepped into a starting role, and played well until Tom Brady torched him in the playoffs. If the worst thing your can say about a guy is the Tom Brady beat him, then you could say the same about a lot of corners. Knee jerk Harbaugh cuts Melvin without him having any time to get established, but he keeps that awful Elam because the Ravens made the stupid choice of drafting him on the first round. Give me Melvin instead of Elam any day of the week.
Probably wasnt even Harbs decision. Probably was left up to the front office (Eric DeCosta, Ozzie Newsome) for why they let him walk. And could have been a lot more behind the scenes. But they did give him many chances to play and I liked his aggressiveness but he always seemed to give a big play or 2 and NFL teams will cut and trade players so fast for that.
Quoted for truth. Take the Bengals as an example. They may be succeeding NOW, but look at how many years it has taken...years of drafting high, too.
The Ravens went 3 or 4 years of being one or two plays away from going to the superbowl before actually making it to the superbowl.
I don't see why people love Harbaugh so much, you think he went on a run but what really happened was our good team finally got a QB, which was our weak spot. We could have done that with just Ozzie and no head coach.
With personalities like Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Haloti Nghata, Bernard Pollard, Terrel Suggs. IF you dont have a really great head coach to keep those personalities in line it can destroy a team just as much as help a team. Those guys are great and they expect everyone to be as great as they were which is a hard thing for other players to know that they would never be in the spotlight like those guys. Head coach keeps everyone on the same page aiming for the same goals. Harbs is not a bad coach. We have just been good for so long that its starting to get to our team. There is a lot of pressure on the players because this has been a winning organization since the beginning. A lot is expected from the management and the players. How many of our best coaches and management have left for new jobs elsewhere because of performance here. Marvin Lewis, Rex Ryan for example. We lost our head of college scouting director a few years ago and some of our scouts went on to better positions on other teams. When you lose a lot of your great scouts and great coaches and have to replace them it makes it hard to get the same results and I think we are seeing the effects of that now. There will be a lot of pressure on the scouts and coaches this offseason to scout the right players for the draft and bring in the right players from free agency.
PalmBayRaven.... I hear what you are saying and I also wanted to expect so much more out of Flacco this season. He has the tools and he is an 8 year veteran with a ton of post season success and experience. He is growing and I was hoping to see the best Flacco we have ever seen but I also had to remind myself... that this is Joe's 4th OC in 4 years! 4 new systems in 4 years. 4 new ways of doing things---- 4 new play books to learn. That has to slow development at some point. We have to expect a learning curve to some degree. Next... I remembered that we have a 36 your old # 1 WR and a rookie # 2.... and a bunch of unproven players behind them. A couple of injuries to our # 1 and #2 and all of a sudden we have a veteran QB in a new system with little help. No targets and a OL in front of him that is also learning a new system and had some difficulty protecting him early. Joe has took more of a beaten this season then I have ever seen him. IF we can get another year under Trestman, add a few legit weapons at WR.... give those young TE's a year to develop and lock up KO or add depth on that OL... I expect Joe to have a career year next season... this season seemed to be too much stacked against him (and he still may pass for record yardage)!
A realist perspective. I agree with everything you said. Look how much of a difference one year made for Gilmore, he trained hard over the offseason and looks great this year. Now we have the potential have 3 great TEs next season. I think the problem is with the playcalling too. We dont have the line to run a bunch of screens and wr screens. Trestman has also always been known as an aggressive pass happy coordinator that we know is trying to become more balanced with his playcalling but thats gotta be hard to play calls in a different way than he is used too bc want to keep the same system kubiak ran. We ran a lot of 2 TE formations last year and now we run a lot of 3 wr and 1 TE formations and try to run the zone scheme out of it. Lining up with 2 TEs allows the line to cover more of the field and allows more holes to pick and run through. I dont think Pees is to blame for the defense either. I have seen him try just about everything there is to try on defense. Nickle, man, rushing 6 or 7 guys, rushing 3 and having everyone else play zone. You cant change personnel and personnel is the problem. We have too many average players that cant hold up an entire NFL game.
If Perriman cant make it on the field this season and make an impact I cant see us finishing .500, but if he does play I can see him being the 1 or 2 big plays we need in a close to pull out some of these close wins. I wont beat up Flacco and say hes the problem. You dont know if the line is going to hold up for him or not every week. past couple weeks the line has been better but they havent given Flacco enough time to see his open wrs.

One of the best draft picks we have had in years. Our scouting department is pretty good at evaluating offensive linemen. Way better than they are at getting wrs. If we can get another guard or center this year the line should improve a lot.
