Less concerned by the prospect of Hostler than I was before. I think if we were gonna promote from within, we would've already announced it (Pagano and Pees were both promoted within a day).
It's just a courtesy.
It would be pretty uncouth not to interview him. The fact that he hasn't't been promoted should say a lot.
I saw it somewhere that Browns are letting their assistants interview anywhere.
I really think Norv Turner would be my choice for OC. I'm just a fan, but Norv's playing calling demands seem to meet the criteria for our players.

League source confirms Vikings granted permission to interview Browns' Norv Turner for offensive coordinator vacancy in Minnesota
Doubt browns would let him interview in the division.
i would rather have an offense that can takes to a SB, than a QB that throws for 4k yards every year and never makes to the playoffs or SB. aka matt ryan...
That's really no Ryan's fault. They have a lot of offensive weapons and simply not enough playmakers on defense.
Someone help me. I believe Pitta will be re-signed but I have no confidence that Baltimore will do right by offensive players who consistently produce. We saw what the F.O. did to Boldin, Mason AND Heap within the past few years. Look at what they almost did to Leach fresh off a Super Bowl victory and he's one of the best catching fullbacks in the league. Anyone remember the tragedy that was Le'Ron McClain? Never saw a fullback tackle himself after a catch until that guy.
I'm trying to find any evidence that can indicate the Ravens F.O. doesn't sabotage itself by being cheap. I typically only see changes when the "bleeding" begins to get out of control (ex: Baltimore's 10-man offense until the signing of Monroe...is that an unfair assessment of the line?). Kelichi wasn't at full-strength due to injury but I always thought McKinnie was the primary problem.
Back to Pitta, I'm confident he'll be re-signed but I'm not convinced Baltimore will do right by him in the long run. I'm looking at their history of contract lifespans with proven receivers. I hope the F.O. manages to find a way to abandon their usual shenanigans and actually keep proven receivers through their contracts!!
Well we've never been good at developing pass catchers. But Heap Mason and Boldin were expensive players in the last year of their contracts. It's not a similar situation.
Nothing Ozzie can't fix.
Yeah, but it's going to be tough. For former HC's and such. They may hire kubiak in Tampa
OCs aren't going to want to come here because of our lack of Oline talent.
Again WR is not a priority this year. Why would they draft a WR in the first round when they desperately need to improve the OL and DL?
Plus, if Aaron Mellette is not in Harbaughs infamous doghouse he looks to be a deep threat with good hands.
You would like to put the teams hopes on a playmaker 7th round Wr that was IR stashed his first year? How many years will this team attempt to depend on late round WR's instead of actually taking talent? David Reed (5th), Marcus Smith (4th), Justin Harper (7th), Demetrius Williams (4th) , Yamon Figurs (3rd), Devard Darling (3rd), Clarence Moore (6th), etc .
They need to draft a sure (as sure as 1st rounders go) top tier WR if they ever want this offense to succeed.
Because this Draft is super stacked with WR talent. Just anything on Offense.
TEs arent super expensive, but Pitta is probably top 10 or so in the league. The going rate is about 6-7M per year. I think someone will sign him for that.
also keep in mind that teams have a minimum salary they must now hit.
It's not implausible that he and Joe could have been considered co MVPs. The QB will always win a tie with this type of award.
Jacoby would have been second, but he just didn't have that kind of production.
It's hilarious that people drone on and on about how Flacco needs more weapons, they don't have enough receivers.... and this is WITH Jacoby currently on the team.
And yet, people are saying he's replaceable.... they don't need him, and he's not that important.
They need Jacoby Jones more than they need Dennis Pitta back.
bottom line is, Jacoby Jones was the real MVP of the Super Bowl and he'd probably have better numbers than Torrey Smith by a large margin this year if he wasn't taken out by his own player in the first game of the season.
The guy is a good receiver, but nobody knew it because Matt Schaub was absolutely terrible in Houston. He's been able to showcase more of his talents than kick returning here in Baltimore because Flacco is better than Scaub.
You have to pay someone besides Flacco. If Jacoby Jones isn't back, the Ravens better have something better planned than bringing in another Brandon Stokely like they replaced Boldin with.
Jacoby was the Real MVP?
So those other 2 touchdowns and 219 didn't count.
Oh wait it's ed reed from the U.
This feels like our FO are taking a huge leap of faith that our young guys will step up big.
Doss -> Boldin
Mount Cody -> Cory Reeding/JJ. You know how that went.
Torrey over Mason, Upshaw over JJ.
It wasn't about this seasons cap hit from flacco. The payday Flacco gets in future seasons make the Ravens choices very limited. I understand why extending Boldin wasn't an option because the money just won't be there.
Flacco is overcompensated by atleast 2 to 3 million AAV, that contract will come back to haunt the Ravens and the first domino to fall because of it was Boldin. They had the money to keep him this season but they could not add any years to the contract which may have bridged the gap.
You're reaching now. At best Boldin was going to be with the team for another year.
You're basically saying Boldin for a year is better than Ellerbe for five.
You're not making sense.
lee Evans ended up being a bit of a bust haha but yes, a 6th round pick is nothing to sneeze at. just think we could have gotten more.
Lee got hurt, but at the time that was a really good trade.
People need to calm down. You can't risk the long term structure of the team to keep Boldin for 1 season.
Well we wanted to keep him, but he rejected only being paid 5.5M this year.
Agreed, but in hindsight if we knew we couldn't keep him we should have shopped him earlier. 20/20 I know, but I was aware that he wasn't going to be back.
Much rather him go to SF than NE or Houston or Indy.
Exactly. If we released him he could sign in the conference. I'm also sure there is some good will between Jim and John.
I guess. I am surprised only because we got a 6th. Wow.
We should have shopped him earlier. That's my real complaint.
So,
we just traded a damn good receiver to our new rival for the decade. I didn't think weeks ago that this would be the last time we'd see the 49ers in a Superbowl. The Falcons, Packers and 49ers would take over the NFC's best after Brees gets too old and Eli's giants are a mess.
I have no idea what to do other than run around like a chicken with my head cut off. I guess this means we get to resign: Ellerbe, Reed, Dickson and Pitta?
Next man up, Tandon Doss. You were supposed to be Anquan Boldin's replacement.
You can't be a decade long rival if you're in another conference.
Yes. Yes, quite a few thought/think a restructuring was/is going to be made. Gonna be funny when it does happen and then I come back and read this post
I stand correct!
I am the only one not surprised by this?
Doss isn't as big or physical as Anquan and doesn't have his hands.
Sure Q isn't burning people but he is still our most relaible WR. Yeah Torrey's become a great WR, but if we lose Q it's just Torrey.
I love Jacoby. Love the man, but he is a #3 WR. He isn't a number 2. The man is phenomenal on special teams. Has okay hands but not great. Isn't good at catching the ball in traffic, primarily a speed guy who can put a move on you out in space.
Your not going to tell me that Laquan, David Reed or Doss will step up and replace Boldin. That is not happening. Haven't really seen Streeter at all this year, but I doubt he can fill those shoes either.
We need more than Jacoby, Torrey and Pitta if we want to make a deep playoff run
We can't lose Ellerbe long term and hope to keep him just so we can keep boldin on his last legs.
Did anyone not know Q was going to be cut? I'm shocked out how surprised everyone is.
I think that the decision of paying Ellerbe/Boldin is going to tell the direction of what type of team identity we willl have moving forward.
No it's not, Boldin has a very high salary for one year and has maybe a year or 2 left in him. Ellerbe will be playing for probably another 5 years if he can stay healthy. We can't sacrifice years of LB for a WR who can't get seperation.
It just doesnt make sense to risk 5 years of Danelle Ellerbe to hold onto Anquin Boldin for one Season.
