  1. I agree Minionhunter. Also, I think Harbs has increasingly had more influence over the draft in the last five yrs or so, which may point to the ineffectiveness of our latest draft classes. I posted this in another thread that I think is worth taking a second look: "I posed the question I did earlier in the thread about how much impact Harbs actually has in the overall draft process. When I was reading and researching to find out as much as I could about how our draft strategy works and who is the most influential I went back as far as I could so that I could see if there had been any major trends and/or shifts in our draft strategy, especially since Harbs arrived to see if our recent down trend in the last five years or so could be traced to Harbs' influence. Personally, I thought there had been and from what I read it would seem to indicate that this could be possible. Here are some of the better sources I read that can give you good insight into our draft process and how it has evolved through the years, and you and others can draw your own conclusions: 2009: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/19/sports/football/19ravens.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 2013: http://grantland.com/features/bill-barnwell-baltimore-consistent-winning/ 2013: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000212663/printable/whos-ireallyi-in-charge-afc-north-hierarchies-run-the-gamut 2016: http://russellstreetreport.com/2016/02/01/lombardis-way/a-shift-in-the-ravens-war-room/ 2016: http://russellstreetreport.com/2016/10/18/lombardis-way/the-heat-is-on-for-harbaugh/ Here are two good articles that let you know about Harbs' philosophies: 2014: http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/super-bowl-winning-coach-makes-the-most-of-each-moment 2016: http://www.ndinsider.com/football/notebook-harry-hiestand-s-influence-pays-draft-dividends/article_f86a17c2-0e81-11e6-b260-a3f63e6e91f8.html These articles have a lot of similarities and some differences, but they do give a good overall impression as to the draft strategy. Some folks may be familiar with the sources already, but when read all together they draw a definitive picture. The article from the National Catholic Register which was a Q & A, pretty much sums up Harbs' approach to how he views the draft as evidenced by the quotes below: "After you got back from Afghanistan, you went to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Is the combine really necessary? Do you get to learn things about players that you didn’t already know? At the combine, the scouts are mostly rounding out their knowledge of players they’ve already studied a lot. However, coaches are a different story, since we are just beginning the evaluation process on this draft class. Coaches can learn a great deal by seeing the players up close at the combine. We start with that information and build on it up until the draft in May. "You didn’t need to look for any kickers, did you? No, certainly not. Justin Tucker is a tremendous kicker and young man. He exemplifies what we look for in players. There’s the obvious necessity of physical strength and skills, but above and beyond those, we look for mental characteristics. Those can make or break a draft pick. Work ethic, decision-making skills and interest in team unity are some of the things that go to make up what we call that “football intelligence.” This outweighs physical qualities 3 to 1." Very interesting and insightful as to what he values most in a player, I'd say! I have more questions than answers, lol. If Ozzie has been so successful with the "right player, right price" mantra that emphasizes the "evaluating and valuing players" strategy so well over his tenure as the Ravens GM, as his drafting and free agency record suggests, then why the dip in the draft over the last five yrs. give or take? The outlier to that question could point to Harbs. Once Harbs' won a SB in accordance with his record, did he feel that gave him more leverage to step in and influence the draft? If Biscotti wanted the scouts and coaches to work together, unlike they didn't do well under Billick, could it be that Harbs gets the ear of Biscotti more than Ozzie? Obviously, something isn't working because this team lacks an identity imho...are we a defensive team or an offensive team...and if offense is it run or pass? Whatever the issues are, how can you stack a draft board when you don't have a clear vision of what you want the team to be? I would tend to agree with you ellicottraven, let the scouts scout and the coaches coach! This would only be a problem if the coach can't coach the team that is drafted, lol."
  2. ellicottraven, I think that with Joe's injury he may have developed some bad habits with his fundamentals, like throwing off his back foot, and the psychological impact that such a major injury can bring on especially when your O-line is having major problems and you know your protection just isn't there, plus Marty wasn't known for getting plays out quickly either, all these things combined I think had a negative effect on Joe's fundamentals. Plus coming back from injury, and having shoulder issues too. I couldn't say I blame him, lol. I probably would be looking to protect myself and do whatever I had to do too if I knew I had less than a nano second before my center was backing into me with defenders in my face. Marty didn't really seem to help Joe as his QB coach either over the past few yrs., as most could see from all the comments of him throwing off his back foot, etc. I just think Joe's fundamentals may need a little tweaking after the injury, and Kubiak would be the perfect choice to get him back on track. (and maybe it wouldn't be so stressful a job to prevent Kubiak from taking it, lol.) Plus it wouldn't hurt Joe to be reminded about fundamentals and technique by a strong willed OC, after all this past season shows everyone could use a little sharpening of the tools, lol. Anyway those were just my thoughts behind my opinion.
  3. I still think Kubiak would be the best option for QB coach, he really worked with Joe when he was here before and I think Joe improved a lot under Kubiak. Maybe QB coach wouldn't be such a stressful job for Kubiak as an OC position would. I would like to see Dennison as the OC. With Kubiak working on Joe's fundamentals to get them straightened out, and Dennison as OC I think we might see a marked improvement with our offense. Honestly, I think Marty just has to go at this point or we will just have more of the same in 2017. If not this option then I could get onboard with Kyle S. or M. McCoy. But we definitely need a change with something new to spark our offensive game strategy. We need someone who can strategize for opposing defenses, utilize our talent by playing to our guys strengths and giving them the chance to make plays, and adapt in- game, imho.
  4. I know Kubiak is leaving for health reasons, but I would really like to see him brought in as Joe's QB coach. That shouldn't be too stressful a job. lol. But seriously, I think he could do a lot to put Joe back on the right track. It would be great if Dennison could be the OC too. Heck, I know it is a dream, ...oh well.
  5. Ya know ellicottraven, for the last 2 yrs. I've watched Harbs on the sidelines during games and he knows the sand is running fast through the ole' Ravens hourglass... if there was a conservation bubble over his head it would probably say: "Come ON guys, if you keep playing like this I'm gonna get fired!!!". He knows. The real question is does he know he is part of the problem?
  6. Hard to see SSS sitting on the bench with a towel over his head!!! The Ravens should be ashamed for not getting him more involved in this game plan today...at least he comes to play!
  7. Mallet in now with 2 mins. left? WTH
  8. Harbs wants to win to up his record, getting players hurt for nothing, I just don't get this man's strategy, smdh!
  9. CJ hurt now? Wholly cow!
  10. Judon hurt now? Wow, On-us-war 's name is kinda of fitting don't y'all think, lol.
  11. Maybe it is just me, but I feel it is a little disrespectful to SSS for the lack of attention to him today in the game.
  12. Harbs is just a hot mess today! You can see it in his facial expressions. Any other HC would be trying to test his talent today to see what he's got going into next season, but Harbs is trying to win the game to make his stats better cause he knows his seat is getting warm. That is the only reason to play your starters, which if they get hurt, will put him behind the eight ball again in the offseason. What is he thinking???
  13. I said earlier, it kinda makes you wonder if Pitta would be retiring, instead of SSS lol.
  14. I swear this conservative offensive game plan we've had for years...when we finally get to the end zone we don't know what to do down there...it is like we are in foreign territory!
  15. I agree wholeheartedly Mili! The offensive side of the ball is just a mess.
  16. It is a shame that this organization is stuck in the mud, I swear it is like Cam Cameron's ghost is hanging over this team, except that he isn't dead. lol God forbid we fire Marty and bring Cam back!!! But I wouldn't put it past Harbs. We really need to clean house on the offensive side of the ball. Need a strong QB coach, offensive line coach, OC that brings in his staff and a new wide receivers coach. I think the backs coach is fine.
  17. I bet this Harbs post game presser will be short and snippy!!! lol Because no need to expect answers when he hasn't had any all season, lol. He will probably be grilled by reporters and Harbs will get snippy and the presser will be cut off. I bet ya! lol
  18. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a mutiny in the locker room at halftime, lol.
  19. I think you hit on something there, lol.
  20. Amen Cville-Raven, amen!
  21. Imho, I was never thrilled with Marty to start off with. Marty and Castillo need to exit and find an up and coming offensive mind and just start over in the offseason. I'm tired of this "let's get to the 20 or 30 and let's kick a FG offense"! It hasn't been working for years. That is something that just boggles my mind...no mind the OC (since Kubes) it is the same game plan which would lend me to think this is Harbs influence on the OC's game plan. Play conservative all season not showing your hand and then pull out the stops IF you get to the playoffs isn't cutting it!
  22. The Bengals are missing their 2 top RB's, their 2 top TE's and their top WR in this game and they are running all over the defense. Boyd and Buckhead are going to have to be watched next season too.
  23. You'd think the way Flacco is using Pitta more today that it would be Pitta retiring instead of SSS.
  24. Wow, same game plan today...lets get to the 20 or 30 yrd. line and kick a field goal...SMDH!!!
  25. Boy, that #33 is going to be someone to watch for with the Bengals next season.
