  1. Are you an old school Trekkie? That's what a lot of them said.
  2. This is Sparta!
  3. I might have made it three. People keep telling me to watch it, apparently it gets better when they get to David Tennant as the Doctor, but I couldn't get into it. I have to watch things chronologically or it bothers me.
  4. It's more like a mini-series, so I would agree. British TV is still weird. They order 3 episodes here, 6 episodes there, and I think they call a full series 10 episodes. A full season in the US is around 22, give or take depending on what the network want it. I just find it frustrating because some British TV shows leave me wanting more. I think it's tragic that we have so few episodes of shows like Sherlock and The Inbetweeners because their quality is above the majority of television. My next ( profanity deleted) show is going to be Luther. I'm going to try to squeeze that and get caught up on Continuum before continuing with The X-Files. But I still need to watch season 3 of the original Star Trek too.
  5. On Netflix. It wasn't that big of a deal, only took a few hours and it was well worth it. Yes. British TV is done in a weird way.
  6. I finally watched the first season of Sherlock and it is a truly incredible show. I loved it, it was far better than the Sherlock Holmes movies. And I really like Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law's versions of the characters.
  7. I got slightly advanced screening tickets for Man of Steel next week. It might be only a few hours before a midnight showing, but the tickets were free so I can't complain. They've got a stellar supporting cast lined up for this one, so if Cavill can carry this will be a good movie. Zack Snyder does have quite a reputation for comic book adaptations, Watchmen was great and I enjoyed 300, so I have high hopes.
  8. Is it like Funny People? I stopped enjoying Apatow after that one. It's so sad, he was on his way to becoming the best comedy director in Hollywood with The 40-Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up and then messed it all up with melodrama.
  9. I've been meaning to watch that one, should I just watch the original? My impression is that the Redux version is overly long.
  10. Oh I knew, but there was nothing else on.
  11. On a side note, don't ever watch Grandma's Boy on TV. It's a hilarious movie, so many great lines, but the censor ruins it.
  12. Finally saw Lincoln, and while good it was not on par with Spielberg's other great works. On the historical side of things, Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List are both better. Overall, I much prefer Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, and Minority Report. I thought Sally Field's performance was weak, but maybe like everyone except for Tommy Lee Jones they were unworthy to bask in the magnificence of Daniel Day-Lewis. He was incredible. I'm guessing the point of the movie was to demonstrate that the government has always been corrupt and inefficient. And on Daniel Day-Lewis, outside of Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes how are we as Americans striking out against this foreign menace? They've taken Batman, Superman, and now one of our presidents.
  13. Maybe I'm forgetting one, but has Jenny from the block ever been in a good movie?
  14. That movie was illogical, pointless, and utterly stupid. It wasted three great actors.
  15. There was plenty to blast Book of Eli on. Now that was a truly terrible movie, probably the low point of Denzel's entire career.
  16. I don't like when movies try to be more than what they are, so that whole which story is true thing was annoying to me. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm in the minority, I can see how people would like those visuals. That part of the movie really is fantastic. I just have a very negative view of Indian exploitation movies, and tend to not like in-your-face religious themes. So much of the first 45 minutes could have been cut down, and I thought that lack of pacing really hurt the movie. And for the record, bananas can float in seawater. Many things can in fact, the salinity affects the buoyancy of the fluid.
  17. I just finished Life of Pi and it's kind of a Waste products. It's a beautiful Waste products, the cinematography is incredible, but it's a Waste products nonetheless. Boring, poorly paced, and yet another example of an Indian exploitation film.
  18. Is it just me, or does the kid seem like a total tool? He doesn't have his dad's inherent likability.
  19. Both After Earth and Now You See Me have been getting overwhelmingly negative reviews. It's unsurprising on After Earth, it looks terrible and Shyamalan hasn't made a good movie in a very very long time. Now You See Me on the other hand looked intriguing and had a solid cast.
  20. While I appreciated not having to deal with the truly terrible characters as much, the Netflix season of Arrested Development was even worse than the first three. I don't know why I watched the episodes.
  21. I can't get past the main character in that show. That guy makes William Shatner look like Daniel Day-Lewis. Such a terrible actor.
  22. I enjoy the show as well, despite much ridicule from others. They tend to stretch a lot of things, probably because they hit the big events fairly early on in the show. I want to believe.
  23. While I personally don't care for the show, the new season of Arrested Development is up on Netflix.
  24. Anyone see Furious 6 yet? I'm going to try to go tomorrow.
  25. My mistake, I thought it was due out next year. Didn't realize it was a holiday title. Now I have to figure out what game I was thinking of.
