Great kid, really happy to have him on the team. I see what Ozzie saw in him not only as a player but also as a person.
This is the last glaring hole we have on our roster. I think we did a solid job shoring up CB with Young and Powers, really did a great job reloading the DL in the draft.... but we need a proven ILB next to CJ, can't overstate how important that position is.
I'm just not a believer in Brown or Orr. Let's see how they do at OTA's, I have a little bit of faith in Brown, he's had some good flashes in the preseason. I just don't like they idea of relying on 2 guys that might end up being a liability at a very important position. Cap casualty or a trade makes the most sense, I really hope Orr/Brown won't be the starter week 1 unless they absolutely dazzle when team activities begin.
Correa might actually be the best pure 3-4 pass rusher in this entire draft. Now he's not even close to being as complete of a player as Bosa in terms of also being able to set the edge and factor into the run game. But if you're just talking pass rush specialist Correa is your guy. Quickest first step off the LOS out of all the edge's, once he smartens up a bit and learns the tricks of the trade from Suggs/Doom he could be a dangerous guy in passing situations. Very much in the mold of an Elvis Dumervil, short arms, but makes up for it with superior burst and technique. Not a 3 down player but a very proficient pass rush specialist.
However he needs to get a go-to pass rush move, he can't just rely on his athleticism at the NFL level, if he can upgrade his pass rush arsenal he will be a player for us.

But yes, with Powers signed, its not happening now.
I think it would just depend on how well he's doing coming off the ACL, definitely a guy you would want to bring in for a work out prior to signing so there's really no way for us to say since we haven't seen what kind of recovery he's made. I think if Culliver is healthy he's on par with a guy like Wright, that's a big "if" though.
Doesn't really matter now, as you said it's not happening. We went with Powers and I'm inclined to agree with that decision based on who was available.
1 minute ago, rmcjacket23 said:He wouldn't be competing for #2 corner.
That was from before we signed Powers so it's not really relevant anymore. Culliver was rated as a top 15 CB in 2014 per PFF. If you're talking about talent Culliver is better than both Wright and Powers, which is why I said he could compete for CB2. His whole knock is durability, he's missed quite a bit of time in his career and of course is coming off an ACL. We made the wise choice going with Powers who is far less injury prone.
Would be very interested in adding Whitner or Thurmond. I'm just not sold on Webb at Safety, doubt we sign either though. I have a very hard time believing Whitner wouldn't be an upgrade over Webb, it's like we're trying to justify what we're paying Webb by forcing him into a starting spot. The whole Browns defense was terrible last year, I really don't hold a down year against Whitner, he was set up to fail from the beginning there. Apparently he's already in negotiations with a team per his twitter, wish we would've went after him hard to pair with Weddle, he fits the Ravens mold.
Oh well gotta try to justify that terrible Webb contract somehow... -__-

We won't lose a draft pick, don't worry. Will be in the realm of a fine and loss of a few practices
Man we need an ILB, don't trust Orr/Brown for a second. While I think Daryl Smith's best days were behind him I'm not thrilled with our current situation there. Seems like every time we try to push questionably prepared youngsters into a veterans spot we get burned. I'm all for letting Orr/Brown compete for the spot but we really should look into acquiring another ILB, priority #1 on this entire roster right now.
If we were Patriots fans: THERE'S NO EVIDENCE! The film could be doctored! What about the gas law? The drop in temperature could've caused the pads to magically float on to our players shoulders. This is a witch hunt! Goodell is out to get us! What about when the Houston Oilers cheated in 1968!?!?!? This is unfair, Bischotti should take them to court!
Ravens Fans: Rules are rules, we have to take this one on the chin.

But the lack of toughness is a bit alarming. He needs to add lean muscle A LOT. I havent seen him live at all but you could tell by the videos he's skinny and not very strong. He's a good project tho he's very light on his feet I like that but I think he was a bit better mentally in 2014. Last year he was playing scared and not confident enough for the type of corner I like. He was playing a bit like year 1-2 Jimmy Smith, way off the WR, didn't locate the ball when beat. To gain his confidence I would play him in zone, cover 2 schemes, let him see the field, make some plays, build his confidence before you ask him to turn his back on the ball. But he would need to be A LOT more agressive in defeating blocks he if plays the flat zone.
Put him in the weight room and film room and he could pan out he's got everyone you ask for a corner. He's more a 1-2 year project
Sounds a lot like Sherman coming out. Now I'm in no way saying Canady has those types of expectations or capabilities, just similar body type. When you have the type of length Canady has I don't think weight/strength is a big issue, he just needs to get a better understanding of leverage and raise his overall football IQ. I think his shortcomings as a player are far more mental than physical, luckily Leslie Fraizer is a great DB coach and can teach him a lot. I wouldn't expect much his rookie year but long term I think he Canady could start to "click" mentally and become a formidable CB2.
Sherman:
6'3
32 in arms
195 lbs.
Bench Press: 16 reps
Canady:
6'1
31 5/8 arms
193 lbs
Bench Press: 16 reps

Yeah I loved that answer from him at the presser, good guy to model his game after considering they have similar body types. Canady just needs reps, reps, and more reps. Bet he get's plenty of burn in preseason, if he can improve his football IQ and technique we could have a steal on our hands. Easier said than done of course.

Don't see how Clay makes the team though. We were annihilated by injuries at WR last year, that's how he got on the active roster in the first place. This year we essentially have 3 new active roster WR's (Perriman, Wallace, Moore).
1 hour ago, GrimCoconut said:That's a ton of fumbles.
It's an inflated number, Navy runs a triple option offense as you probably know, a bunch of those fumbles are from botched pitches/exchanges... not a matter of his ball security when getting hit really.
I think Keenan Reynolds. Don't see Clay making the team this year, just way too much talent at WR right now to justify keeping him as a ST'er.

Tavon is more than just a slot cornerback. He can cover outside as well. He may be designated at slot but ravens will learn he can play outside as well as slot. He is just a touch behind vh3 as best smallish cornerback in the draft.
I actually agree. Look at Jason Verrett, dude is every bit as small frame/height as Tavon. If you're technically skilled and have the athleticism to compensate for size there's no reason Tavon couldn't end up playing on the outside.
1 hour ago, jazz1988 said:I honestly would have liked to see The Ravens go after more of a outside cornerback but Powers adds solid competition/depth . Powers does has experience playing outside corner but just like Kyle Arrington he's better in the nickel. The Ravens in my opinion have plenty of options at nickel corner from Arrington, Young, Brooks, Webb, Levine, and Elam but how many other options do they have at outside corner other than Jimmy Smith and Shareece Wright whom are the starters may I add.
I expect Powers to compete with Wright, he's not a liability on the outside like Arrington. While he may not be a super ideal outside corner I think he's proven he can hold his own outside. Wright has some serious competition on his hands with Powers and Will Davis for the CB2 spot, he's going to have to beat them both out in camp and I'm not sold on him doing so right now. Powers is more battle tested and comes from a great defense, Davis is more talented but still raw. It's definitely going to be interesting battle to keep an eye on.
3 hours ago, redlobster said:Decent players don't wallow on the market for months typically especially cornerbacks
They do when they want more than teams are willing to pay and it's pre-May 12th. Arizona was interested in bringing him back and the Giants were also in on him, just were waiting for the comp pick period to end. If you don't think Powers is at the very least a "decent" player I don't know what to tell you. Was good enough to start at CB2 on a stacked Arizona defense, the Cards just have young corners ready to play like Bethel and opted to go in that direction. Powers said after Pat Pete and Bethel had offseason surgery his phone started to ring from the Cards but he opted to sign in Baltimore instead (guessing he felt slighted by Arizona early in FA)
5 minutes ago, KidNme said:Always good to have competition and depth at any position and Powers seems like a solid guy however, it depends on for how much. Both Arizona and the colts have a better CB now that he's gone I would imagine, otherwise he would still be there so I'm not thinking he's any more than depth at this point. Also, can we get a CB over 6' for gosh sakes??
Good 6'+ CB's aren't just floating around, they're treasured commodities in today's NFL. Powers is a really solid player, best CB who was on the open market regardless of size. Started outside on a very good Cardinals defense. Size isn't everything, Brandon Browner is 6'4 and can't play a lick anymore, I'll take the most technically skilled and fundamentally sound player every day of the week.
Will have to see how the new FA's/Rookies do in camp/preseason. I see a major turn around from last year assuming we stay relatively healthy. The offense looks miles ahead of where we were last year on paper. Stanley, Wallace, Perriman, Watson, Dixon... a lot to be excited about on that side of the ball. Also hyped to see how Weddle does, he was a major peice for the defense.
Early prediction. 10-6. Make it to divisional round of playoffs and will be ready to actually contend for a SB in 2017 with the momentum we build this year. But hey, I'm not counting us out this year.. we could make a run, this is a VERY talented roster if we can just avoid the injury bug.
Getting Ochi was like getting a free late round flyer, surprised he wasn't drafted, he was overlooked by many just because he's a small school guy.
Moore is intriguing, not as fast as Torrey but he makes contested catches better and tracks the ball better than Torrey did coming out. I also think Moore plays faster than his 4.5 time in games, one of the big reasons that the 40 is the most overrated stat in prospect scouting, you have to watch the game tape to truly assess speed. I think he'll end up being kind of what Markus Wheeton is to the Squeelers, it will take Moore a few years to catch on but he'll end up being a #3 guy who can make some plays intermediate-deep.
People want to talk about short arms and undersized with Correa, heck Dumervil is significantly smaller than Correa and has had an awesome career as a push rush specialist. The secret to Doom's success most notably has been his motor, pass rush moves, and understanding of leverage. Correa has the motor, the latter things can be taught to him in time.
I think with Correa's explosiveness all he really needs is a go-to pass rush move. Doom has that spin, I think Correa could benefit a lot from learning from Doom and Suggs during camp this year to get those types of pass rush moves in his arsenal. He's really fortunate to have such great mentors and I'm excited to see him put those physical skills to good use and evolve in the mental aspect of the game his rookie year. I thought Correa had the quickest first step off the snap in the entire draft class, I see a lot of potential.
This guy could be a big time sleeper. When you look at his frame and athleticism he's the real deal, he just has to mentally do some catch up with some of the bigger school guys who were exposed to higher level coaching/competition. But Judon has all the things you can't teach, that's why I really like this pick. We have one of the best DL coaches in the NFL in Clarence Brooks, if Judon has what it takes mentally we're the team to get it out of him.
While his game exposure may be relatively light his rookie year I could see him breaking out and becoming a starter a few years down the line. We did a much better job finding high upside late than we have in recent years which I'm excited about.
